Are You Guilty of Recreational Shopping...?

What I hate about catalog shopping is the shipping costs, and I have learned how to avoid that at the malls. For example. I want something at J-crew, I go to the store and order it from there. And if I need to return it, I return it at the store. Otherwise it would be too expensive. Unless I am offered free shipping, that will be a huge deterrent for me to "catalog recreational shop." Plus, I think it is more the walking around and looking at stuff that doesn't require critical thinking, or involve a lot of emotion that I like about shopping. You just can't get thet from a catalog.

I used to, like two years ago.

But now I do recreational grocery shopping. It''s less guilt-inducing.

I have been known to do a little bit of recreational shopping, but I really do try to keep it to a minimum. These days i''ll settle for a new book for my classroom, or a small trinket or some other small purchase. Actually, hubby and I are on a shopping ban for the month of March... We want to see exactly what we spend in a month on NECESSARY purchases.

I envy all of you who are not compelled to shop anymore and are good about your budget.

I''m a horrible compulsive shopper. I am really bad at monitoring my spending and I know I shouldn''t be buying stuff yet I do it anyways and somehow justify it.
I went to the store the other day to buy jeans and left wtih a sweater, jeans, two tops and a vest. I about died when I saw the total yet I paid and walked out. I''m good at returning stuff though so I justified it by saying I''d take back what I don''t think I want later. But how stupid to do that in the first place.

I had a horrendous addiction to shopbop but cured that when I got in over my head in debt which I''ve since cleared out. I go to Nordstrom''s way too much now and have ridiculous amounts of lipsticks, eyeshadows you name it. Who uses 40 lipsticks? Jeez. I finally cured my ebay problem but now I have a big amazon problem. Prime shipping has made it too easy to shop there. It''s genius. With standard free shipping it was a min. $25 purchase so I''d generally pass. Now I can order anything anytime with prime shipping for any amount. Couple that with the amazon iphone app and i''m in trouble.

I get a high from shopping, I need help! This last week was awful. Clothes, amazon purchases, spent way too much on going out last night. Ugh! My friend said she spent $4500 in the last two weeks on shopping. I don''t spend nearly that much but that was shocking! I have no idea what she does with most of it!

No, because I have GUILT.

I used to, a few years ago, right out of college. I bought *a lot* of clothes and racked up major credit card debt that way, too. Not so much anymore, though. Nowadays I work all the time and don't have much time anymore for a casual stroll down my favorite shopping avenues. Also, I'm too afraid of getting in debt again, so that turns me off shopping, too. I'm actually at the point now where I really *need* to go shopping again because my wardrobe is not so hot anymore.
