Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

@Austina Thanks for that post!

I cannot wait for a vaccine!

I live in a smaller town in Virginia that has a sizable college. At the end of August 22,000 kids just came back for school to our town of 55,000. Two weeks later 1,200 of them have tested positive for C-19. The school has turned away the kids who want to test unless they are feeling sick. So the kids are going to the emergicare walk-in type places and reporting through their health departments back home.

I was helping someone look for a lost dog and drove around student housing. Dumpsters overloaded with beer boxes, students milling around and maybe 10% had on a mask. They moved school to online, but the kids are pretty much staying in town.

It did NOT have to be like this. Now my community will certainly see fall-out.

Ugh I'm sorry. This is exactly what I mean. Humans are our own worst enemy. Hands down no question. Wear the dam* mask. Protect others and protect yourselves. Not so difficult. An ounce of prevention. Stay safe @moneymeister and stay away from those fools. :(

Going to listen to my own advise and get cortisone shots in my shoulders wed. Its getting to the point I have little movement in the one shoulder and the other is very very painful. The docs office is in a multi-story building with dozens of doctors offices, narrow halls and elevators making a nasty combo. My wifey also has an appointment the same day in the same building with a different doctor. Not going to be a good day for my nerves.

Honestly it’s the same here @moneymeister, I hate to sound like an old fuddy duddy, but I don’t think a lot of young people are taking it seriously. We’ve had a big spike in new infections, mainly in the young. I’m not sure if they think because we’ve had an easing of restrictions that it’s all over, but it very obviously isn’t. We rarely see young people wearing masks, I’m pretty sure that because we’re back to groups of no more than 6 from tomorrow, that a house behind us had a big party on Friday night. The small children here have been back at school for a couple of weeks, and I’ve not heard anything from our neighbours that there’s any issue in their age group. Interestingly so far, despite the huge rise in new infections, there doesn’t seem to have been any major upswing in hospitalisations -yet! Let’s hope it stays that way. There’s talk of more lockdowns for the most vulnerable and curfews in pubs and clubs. If only people listened, it’s not that hard to wear a mask and socially distance.

@Calliecake, I’m not an anti vaxer, but I would want to be sure that the vaccine is both safe and reliable before having it. Ultimately, because of our situation, we may not have a choice when we have it, if it’s a requirement then we’ll have to have it.

I'm a school governor and we're having some cases now. Some fevers that have turned out not to be Covid, though. In the confirmed cases so far, the kids aren't getting very ill. Hopefully masking and social distancing etc. are going to keep this contained. The news about France this morning was disheartening. Logistically, this is going to be a challenge...

We've had a couple of (non-covid-related) doctors appointments over the last few weeks and I've been very impressed by the measures in the offices. Only one person in the elevator, a staff person pressing the button when you get in, masks, sanitiser, etc. I hope your experience is the same.

I had a cortisone injection in my knee on Friday @Karl_K and had to sign a waiver saying I understood the risk that it may lower my immune system. I thought they were using steroids to help people who had Covid, but apparently if you don’t have it, it can make you more vulnerable. Fortunately, I was at a diagnostic centre, went in, signed the waiver and was seen immediately, so had little contact with anyone apart from the doctor and nurse in the treatment room and we were all masked up. Didn’t see anyone else when I left either, jumped in the car and came straight home. I haven’t left the house all weekend, and always wear a mask when I’m out so hopefully everything will be fine.

I'm stuck in the mindset of having to get things done before the next lockdown. In Canada they're talking about going backwards again. So likely in 2 weeks time we'll see some of that happening, and I'll be isolated again. I can barely stand it to be honest. It really bothers me emotionally at this point. But obviously it's for the best.

My 15 year old was messing around and punched an exterior wall. Most likely, his hand is broken. After pretty much sheltering in place this whole time, I now have to take him to at least three doctor’s appointments.

I am really upset.

oh crap!! In general, should be OK at Dr's office. but wow, punched a wall...that had to hurt. lots of healing dust to your baby!

Well I don't travel at all so I will not have to worry about a vaccine for that reason thankfully.

I just hate that the "anti-vax" term gets thrown around so casually, some of us have great concern about a rushed vaccine during an election year for a brand new virus.

So sorry @House Cat about your son, we had to bring ours to a clinic and we found out after they were conducting COVID testing there. Needless to say I was not happy but the clinic was very orderly and clean and he was in and out quickly.

I'm sure it will be okay in the long run but it's a terrible feeling to have to take him in. I hope he has a speedy recovery!

I understand your concern @YadaYadaYada, and I’m sorry if my using it has offended you. When my DS was a baby, the vaccinations were far more spread out than they are now, and I would be deeply concerned about giving a one month old the amount of vaccinations they do now. I sat up the entire night watching him when he had his first batch of vaccinations at 6 weeks, and I think he was 9 months old before he had the second batch.

Not offended at all, I'm sure most would label me as anti-vax based on previous threads on the subject. That doesn't bother me but there are probably many who are usually in favor of them and may be highly skeptical on a COVID vaccine, does that make them anti-vax? I don't think so, a little skepticism is appropriate when we look at the whole picture.

Oh no @House Cat! I hope his hand isn’t broken. When my son was 15-16 years old he punched a hole in a wall just damaging the sheetrock. Teenagers! They are being very careful in the doctor’s offices so you should be fine.

We have a cold/ flu/ stomach bug circulating that has the same symptoms as a mild (complication free) Covid basically: fever, cough, headache, GI symptoms... I'm utterly exhausted. It's nerve wrecking. In my son's class 9 out of 24 kids called in sick. With those symptoms they all need a negative Covid test (most of the time the whole family goes to get tested...) in order to be allowed back to school. So far not a single positive test. I reckon even with the potential 30% false negatives factored in, it's safe to say it's something else.

But every time my kids tell me everyone else is sick it just makes me so nervous... The girl who's sitting next to my 9 y/o (distanced and all) said she couldn't taste and smell anything :eek2:
She and her mom & dad tested negative . Those were loonng three days until we had that result.

it's truly burning me out

It is upsetting HC. Hope your appointments go well and that the news delivered is better than expected.

kind regards--Sharon

That would leave me a nervous wreck! I hope the cold/flu is over soon and all the kids & families are COVID-free.

@kipari That would burn anyone out...You would think that at least a few children or parents would test positive if it was Covid. It probably is some benign bug...I’m sorry you’re so worried..

Quick question...How many of you are wiping down groceries, mail, and packages? I know they say it’s low risk...but I’m still wiping everything down. I want to do everything I can to minimize the risk....It’s exhausting....

You aren’t alone @MamaBee. I still am. My husband thinks it’s over kill but it only takes a few minutes and it makes me feel a little safer doing so.

I had read a story from China in late January or early February about people living in apt buildings putting their heads out of the windows and singing and yelling to each other. Their government made them stop doing this immediately. From that moment on I always believed this virus was airborne.

Hi. I never did. First, because Lysol and wipes and sanitizer were sold out everywhere. And then, I read a lot about how it was not the main source of spreading. I have to this day only practiced social distancing and wearing a mask when I am around others , and washing my hands when I can. I have not gotten my nails done or hair, as I don’t want any strangers to come close to me. But. I have stayed in hotels and frequented malls as I would Costco or Home Depot, etc. I don’t visit anyone indoors—poor ventilation, but I have no problem with well-ventilated areas like local casinos. Finally. We eat a lot of take-out and from restaurants outdoors. Beaches and parks are not off limits provided we stay away from crowds.
Hubby got a haircut today bc his hair was soo long and he assured me that he felt safe. I’m not really comfy but oh well. I should add that he is an essential and has never stopped working. So, i built my tolerance level early on. No sense in living in paranoia. I guess we all have to do what makes us feel safe and sane! Key word. Sane.
I will add that I protect my 81 year old mother like a hawk! I Don’t let anyone drive her anywhere or hug her and we only visit her outside at a distance. So far, it’s been working. She lives in a high risk area but refuses to move in with me!

It became too exhausting for me on top of all the other precautions so I stopped. I wash hands after touching groceries and leave mail and packages in the box for a few days before picking them up. Large pkgs delivered to the house are left outside for a full day or I put them in the garage. I don't know if that helps avoid contact with the virus but it helps with my peace of mind.

I am in this group, not "anti vax" at all but highly skeptical of a vaccine that seems rushed for what may or may not be political reasons. My family is vaccinated as the CDC schedule recommends but we definitely won't be at the front of the line for this one.

When covid first hit they thought steroids would cause issues turns out it may have a positive effect because not as many people on inhaled steroids or other kinds are catching covid as expected. They are under represented. I could just be they took it more serious earlier too already having issues.
I am not going to claim that it means anything and neither were they.
It is interesting however.

@MamaBee I never did. Could see myself going off the deep end from doing that so I didn't even try.

I live in Australia though (and not in Victoria) so our risk is different to yours.

It’s broken. He has a referral to surgery to make sure he doesn’t need it. The good thing is we only had to go into one place yesterday. Now I have to pray the surgeon is only one appointment too.

Oh, and I’m still wiping all of my groceries. I let the packages sit for days before I open them

Thanks guys..l also get groceries for my son, Chris, who recovered from Covid. He’s too nervous to go food shopping yet. He feels like he’s vulnerable and can get infected again quickly. I’m not wiping his groceries...I gave him wipes to do it himself. I think it makes me feel more in control because my husband has been working through this. He thinks if he wears a mask he’s protected and won’t get it..
I open the packages in the garage the same day I get them wearing gloves. I will wipe the contents and let them dry..Then I leave the boxes in the garage.

I’m so sorry @House Cat I have to get a skin scan the first week in October. The building is in an antique building. The derm has an office in the basement of the building. I would skip it but I already missed one visit. She said I have to go to this one as I had Melanoma many years ago. I think we will be fine..The doctor’s offices are probably cleaner than they ever were. That’s what I keep telling myself.
