I''m so sorry you hurt your ankle!! I really hope it feels better soon, but if I were you I would get to the doctor ASAP. My aunt walked around with a broke arm for 2 weeks because she thought there was no way it could be broken, and finally she went and found out it WAS. Sometimes doctors will also give you stronger anti-inflammatories than just regular ibuprofen so I really think seeing a doctor is a good idea when your wedding is 3 weeks away. I really hope you heal quickly and feel better soon!

Although I didn''t hurt it that badly, 3 DAYS before my wedding I walked somewhere without my glasses or contacts (unbelievably stupid because I''m practically blind without glasses/contacts) and I missed a step and twisted my ankle. Thought I broke it - it was soooo painful. The next 2 days before the wedding I was limping around, not sure if I would even be able to walk down the aisle. My dad is an orthopedic surgeon so I asked him to bring a whole bunch of ace bandages to the wedding and I was able to wrap my ankle in one and wore pretty shoes for the ceremony (and nobody saw the ace bandage) and I changed into comfortable sneakers for the dancing. I guess with all the adrenaline and excitement I barely even felt the ankle pain during the wedding! (Although it hurt a TON afterwards

Again, I really hope you feel better soon and keep putting that ice on!
Oh, that''s SO smart! Thanks for the great suggestion. I''ll have my SIL do that for me as well if this thing doesn''t heal by then. I do agree that all those endorphins had a lot to do with the painfree-ness! Haha! But we''ll take what we get, right?

Thanks for your thoughts, KatyWI and SarahlovesJS.

Sarah, can you believe this....3 weeks out??? I knew something like this would happen when I posted on your thread re: sickness.

Yes, I can..ugh!!

You know what''s happening to me? I am getting vertigo..
14.gif
..hopefully it will go away. It''s not as bad as your foot, but it''s frustrating because if I take my medicine I am sleepy..if I don''t take my medicine I am so dizzy I can barely drive/go and do the things I need to do!!

OK, what I would HIGHLY recommend is what is called a contrast bath. You need two tubs or large buckets. One with comfortably warm/hot water. The other with cold water no more than 40 degrees cooler than the hot bucket.

- Start in the warm water, soak your ankle/foot for 5 minutes.
- Switch to cold water for 1 minute.
- Switch back to warm for 5 minutes.
- Repeat so you have a total of 3 to 5 rounds of this. End in the warm water.
- If you can, elevate immediately afterwards.

This therapy works very well for everyone I have ever known. It increases blood flow to the foot and helps work the built up fluid out of the joint.

If it is painful to walk on, buy one of the over-the-counter ankle braces. The lace up ones will provide the most support, however if it is only mildly painful, one of the elastic ones will also provide enough support. If you get a lace up one, use an old pair of shoes as they can stretch shoes a little bit if worn excessively. (Although the ones I worn my lace up brace in for a couple of months are fine to wear now.)

This along with the short list of tips I posted earlier, are the best home remedies I can provide you with. Do keep moving on it. Do some simple circles with your foot, or practice writing the alphabet in the air as well. But only as tolerated without increasing pain. If you don''t move it, walk on it, the swelling may stay and your ankle will only get stiff.

Lastly, if it is not significantly better in another day or two, go to the doctor! I''m tempted to say you should just go now given the larger pop sound you said you heard. But that one is a personal choice!

I hope you feel better and I am sure you will be walking down that aisle on your wedding day!

Oh gosh. That is terrible. I hope you take lots of rest for the next 2 weeks (all that stress and exhaustion catching up to us) and I really hope your vertigo gets better soon. Big hugs.

Haha, ilovesparkles, we honestly seem to have had the exact sort of education! I always recommend the hot/cold compresses - it's honestly the best thing ever. My family has weak ankles and that is what I suggest allllll the time (I also put some alum into the hot water, it really helps with the swelling). It works like a charm. But I'm going to start that only in another day or so - until then it'll be continuous ice to bring the swelling down a bit and reduce inflammation - it's not just my ankle that is swollen, but my entire foot and toes. I have it elevated all day as well.

I have an ankle brace somewhere...I have something similar to the lace one. I'm a bit too terrified of putting it on just yet because it's a tad bit too painful to touch. Maybe next week?

I've been exercizing the foot/ankle today all day in regular intervals. I'm doing the alphabet, making shapes and rolling my foot on a bottle. I've learnt from the past that the best way to speed up recovery is by NOT avoiding any movements.

I promise I'll go see a doctor this week. I don't want to walk down tomorrow, so I'll try and make an appointment for Thursday.

Thanks so much for all your advice! You've been insanely helpful!

That sucks sweetie! Sending you lots of dust so your ankle heals super fast!

Note to Honey - remember to remain firmly planted on couch when drinking wine

The hot/cold compress is good, but if you can submerge the whole foot, it will be 100 times better! What I did was take the drawers of one of those plastic stacking drawer cart things, like under the desk drawer towers. Anyway, I took two of them, emptied them, stuck them in the tub, and so on. It worked great! And I agree ice for another day or two before contrast . Ice immediately after exercise. OK, I am actually going to bed now. Hope you have a night of sweet dreams and healing!

I''m so sorry, Kama. I agree that it''s lousy timing, but as has been suggested, ice that whole foot - you know, 15-20 minutes with ice and then ~the same out of ice.

I really think that your best bet is to see a physician; get some meds (maybe) and some advice. If you want to be able to wear your lovely silver shoes, hit that baby with everything available!

Honey: Haha, yup, preferably be in a constant sit-down position when you have a glass of any alcoholic beverage in your hand! Important advice no one tells you before your wedding!

ilovesparkles: Oops, sorry, that''s what I meant. I think I confused you by calling them compresses, I actually meant contrasts. Ugh, my brain is fried. Thanks again for all the wonderful advice!

isaku: ANYTHING to be able to wear some strappy silver heels!! Man, I sure know where my priorities are, huh?

So, update on my ankle. The swelling is SOOOOOO much better than even yesterday! Holy smokes, I can''t believe it''s healing this fast. It''s taken me longer to heal when I have a simple twisted ankle. I swear, it''s all the well wishes from you folks. I can walk around a bit, but I''ll still have my ass put on the couch for the next few days. It''s my friend''s father''s funeral tomorrow, and I want to be able to go to it.

Wearing those gorgeous strappy sandals is coming closer and closer.....more mega healing vibes coming your way!!

Aww, you''re so sweet and thoughtful! Thanks so much for the kind thoughts!

I''m glad the swelling is going down. A lot of lower ankle sprains can heal in 7-10 days. So you should be good. Just rest up!

Oh, Kama! I just read about this. I sure hope you are feeling better and that the swelling is going down.

Thanks, tlh and katamari!

My ankle is much better today. I can walk around without much limping! Still hurts when I walk too much, but so far it''s looking positive towards a night of dancing in two weeks!

I just wanted to thank all the wonderful ladies again for all the well wishes and thoughtfullness!
