Wow Chrono - you've certainly hunted out some spectacular work - that lily brooch is beautiful! And I agree that Joe Worley's work is lovely. Mike in NZ could undoubtedly do it but I understand the reluctance to send your stones to NZ.

I've posted Alex Maryaskin's work before. His site used to be Art of Filigree (and I believe Inner Kitten is right that it's a specialized field) but he now seems to be on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop/SimplyUniqueJD?page=1 - I don't know that anything there is what you're looking for but the man can certainly bend wire if that's the overriding concern. Everything is handmade (I think the pendant/slide at the bottom may look a bit wonky because of the angle of photography).

I've never seen his jewelry before. I particularly like the earrings and his turquoise pieces. Really cool stuff!

Have you considered Cross Jewelers? I visited their shop a few weeks ago. The guy I spoke to was very nice and knowledgable. They accept outside stones, and do custom.

Cookie,
They do custom work? I checked out every page online and there was no mention of custom anywhere other than modifying a setting to fit a bigger stone. Guess I should call them, shouldn't I?

Good luck! Hope it's a good match.

I'm so excited I can barely type. Cross Jewelers does indeed do custom work with outside stones. Actually, they are preparing a quotation for me right now for an antique design for my blue spinel. I had asked for recommendations in a different thread and still could not find a bench that is up to par with my expectations. Hard as it might be to believe, even GreenLake fell short on that. I spotted a particular piece on Cross Jewelers that is an exact match (other elements have to be removed and rearranged) for about the same price as the GreenLake setting I had been eyeing that is actually less detailed than I envisioned. So although I've taken a slight detour from this original Art Nouveau thread, it did come in handy after all. :appl:

Thank you for the RW link. Somehow, the workmanship and design just doesn't wow me.

Innerkitten - I posted an amazing purple sapphire ring of his on a thread of (I think) Arkteia's once before when he had the other website. I find most of the filigree a bit much but I really like the balls detail.

Chrono - understandable. I think he's been around for a few years as a jeweller though. Nonetheless, if you don't want Etsy, I'd maybe follow up on the Coroflot/Joe Worley link. I don't know if you clicked the Resume button (top right) it seems he spent 3 years with Green Lake before joining http://www.josephjewelry.com/ in 2007.

Uh-oh...cross posting but it looks as though you have found success! Onward!!! mit pics now of course :cheeky:

Chrono, I feel so happy for you! Please keep us updated on the progress. :naughty:

Yay!

The leaves are very pretty. Love their coin jewelry too. I'm a sucker for anything with old coins :)

Those earrings really are beautiful. While I know these are estate, I'm keeping my fingers "crossed" for you :))

I'm a bit late to the party, but if Cross Jewelers don't work out for you, I would consider Kelpie's jeweler (Hunt Country Jewelers). They take customers' stones, and some of her pieces remind me of the ones you've posted here. I mentioned them in your other thread but wasn't sure if you saw the post.

I haven't received any quotations back yet but will update everyone. Thank you for the "crossed" fingers.

Hunt Jeweler's carving does not seem particularly fine enough for what I have in mind (the other project, not this Art Nouveav project) and I haven't taken a look at their wire work (and bending) ability. Thank you for the recommendation though and I'll go through their gallery later today.

Any progress with Cross Jewellers Chrono?

I'm still waiting on my quote. When I called last week, Karen said she was working on it but it's been two weeks since my initial inquiry.

That's what I thought - that it was taking a while so I wondered if it had come "unstuck". Well fingers crossed again that you get it sooon.

It's not a good sign when the customer has to call to find out the status of the quote after hearing nothing for a week or two. Cross should have contacted me notifying me of the delay, rather than just going silent, especially since I am potentially spending thousands of dollars with them.

I couldn't agree more. In fact, I would have thought the quote was the easiest part, certainly not coming up to a 3 week wait and you are correct that if they couldn't get to it for some reason, it would have been far better for them to have advised you and apologise for the delay. Not to mention indicating when you would have it.

VL,
I considered 7 Fingers way back when. I think he's the type who'd rather have free reign with his artistic vision, plus all his stones are bezel set. I've not seen anything prong set. I do appreciate your suggestion though because my options have become greatly limited.

Oh Chrono, I am so sorry to hear there is a delay on the quote. I am really surprised it takes them so long to come up with a quote. When I contacted them (via email) about a pair of flower earrings, they always replied within 24 hours. Maybe you could email them instead? The person who I communicated with is named Stephen Pride. Am I allowed to post his email address here? If not, here is how I got his email:

1. Near the bottom of their homepage, http://www.crossjewelers.com , there is a "sign up for our e-newsletter today" thing.
2. Put in the email address to sign up.
3. Then a welcome email from Stephen arrives a few hours after the sign up.

Hope this helps!

Cookie,
My initial contact was via telephone, then I followed up with an email later the same day, so that we can have a "paper" trail with details of what I am looking for, complete with inspiration pictures. I did not get any response at all, neither a confirmation email nor a call back. So a full week later, I called to find out what's going on. This is when I was told that they did get my email and are working on it with no estimated date when I'll get a quote. Another full week has gone by since then with no further communication.

Did you ever ask Anjay Designs if they had actually made any of those beautiful flower rings and could they forward pictures of actual rings? http://www.etsy.com/shop/anjaysdesigns?page=3

Starzin,
I've just been "burned" too many times by Etsy vendors. One could not execute the details that I wanted and could not "see" the difference. It is a very deceptively simple design with no diamonds but the curvature mattered a lot to me. The second was a poor communicator and took weeks to respond to my emails, promising me CADs and etc by certain dates that she consistently did not meet. Worse yet, although I had specified certain elements had to be included in the design, none of them made it to the CAD except one element. Both vendors come highly recommended on PS. So you see, I'm just too tired and afraid to have to go through this all over again, worse yet, with an unproven vendor.

Goodness, I can understand why you feel burned, particularly when I know you will have spelled it out for them and then to not have them deliver. Unfortunately Cross need to pick up their game quickly because their customer service is greatly lacking, I'm so sorry for your frustration and disappointment Chrono.

Edited: for grammar

I hunted down Cross again via telephone twice before being able to talk to Karen. Seems like I'll be getting something via email later today. She excused that the shop has been shorthanded and I'm a bit more wary going forward.

I don't blame you.

Wow, Chrono, I am really sorry to hear that such a seasoned jewelry veteran like yourself is still having such irritating problems. I mean it. You would think with your expertise and experience, by now this should be a walk in the park. Its none of my business, but as a friend, you deserve to have found a steady, high quality, reliable metalsmith that is your "go to" jeweler and can, with your guidance, create your vision.

This may be way out there, but is there any way you can work with one of the jewelers you have used in the past and really liked and just see if stylistically they can take something really different on, or do you think that would be asking for problems?

I used to deal with Whiteflash on many occasions but will no longer do so for two main reasons, one being that they no longer accept outside stones and the second is that these designs require hand forging (together with pierce work and detailed engraving) and wire bending which is clearly not their forte.

Here's hoping you hear from them today, Chrono. That's pretty disappointing. I was wondering if their staff might be on vacation in August but there is still no reason for them not to have let you know there'd be a delay. I'm sorry this is such a lot of work.

Hello,
I have been reading and learning about gems with Pricescope but knowing so little I don't post.
Chrono, I love your FCD'S and love your pics.
I do know a goldsmith that does pull and mold wire to form the smallest little animals, rings and has made a gold X mas tree complete with pressies and decorations which is so delicate. Most of his things are very heavy but I have seen the most delicate miniatures. Everything is done by hand but I'm not sure if it's what you need.
You could ask for pics of these? Or call? He doesn't know I've recommended him. www.westyorkjewellers.com/ . His name is Hartmut and he is in Toronto Canada.
Please don't take offence that I recommended someone out of the blue- from a poster out of the blue.
Oh, and I can't wait to see what you do!
Cheers,
Margaret
