Mara, I have to say that when I first opened the ring box and saw the e-ring I was slightly shocked - I fully expected there to be support bars going from the stem of the ring to the tip of the pear, and to the back of the pear. It did make me instantly think of the head on your ring. The pear halo really ended up looking more the way the DCD micropave halos look than I wanted it to...the metal on the halo itself is vertically taller than I wanted it to be, and the whole thing is suspended from that U pedestal at the bottom whereas I I was expecting some support beams. The look has actually grown on me to the point where I really like it, and see that this allows the w-band to sit flush with the e-ring, but I do harbor small concerns that a very hard blow could knock the whole head off. The U pedestal flares out wider than the actual width of the band, and I think this is a durability thing, as is the height of the metal on the halo. But when I give the ring back to the jeweler today I am going to make sure that these concerns are discussed with her again. When I first called her to tell her that I just got the rings from DH (who picked them up) I told her I was surprised there were no support bars, and she said they would be easy to put in if I wanted them...but I think that if the setting is stable the way it is, I may not add them. I''m worried that I might not like them once they''re put on. I adore the way the ring looks head on...it''s exactly what I wanted. I''ll have to talk to her about the stability thing.Date: 4/17/2005 8:37:18 PM

One question...the ''side shot'' shows that the pear basically rests up on a thin pedestal the width of the band, kind of like how my RB is set so that the rings can be flush, but since yours is a pear it has much more ''length'' than mine, does that pedestal look bother you at all from the side view? Or are you afraid with a good hard knock that you could entirely take off the stone/head? That was my first thought when I saw that pic, since the ring itself is so thin that it seems more ''precarious'' than a RB would....did you address this with your jeweler or am I just being paranoid?
