As said to me by the manager of a friendly pawn shop...

I bought my pink Sapphire ring set with 4.5mm lab grown diamonds in the halo to show the staff at a friendly pawn shop that I had used in the past, and asked if they would be able to tell if the diamonds are LGD.

The manager said although they will be tested as diamonds using their calibrated tester, and they did; she would be able to tell they are LGDs by looking at them using a loupe as they will be too uniformly clean.

That kind of says it all about the quality of the diamonds she has come across working in the jewellery trade and/or pawn shops in UK!

And they trust me with my "good stuff" and that I will not try and trick them with LGDs. :lol-2:

Do you mind me asking what your experience with the pawn shop was? I have a few bits of jewellery I want to sell and am really struggling to find ways to do it. EBay U.K. is ridiculously strict about hallmarks now and LT hasn’t provided any success!

I have never sold anything via a pawn shop except for scrapped gold. Usually they were sold at the daily scrapped gold prices.

However, the latest which was the old 14K WG setting for my mum's 1.94ct MRB and they suggested for me to pledge it as I would get more money for it, and I did, about 15 GBP more.

It's worth going into one to ask about selling your items.

The one I use which is H&T, all non-UK hallmarked items would need to be tested for precious metal contents. They will not accept Platinum items without UK hallmarks.
