I'm contemplating purchasing an ASET prior going shopping for a pear shape at an antique jewelry show- good or bad idea? More likely than not the stone would already be set... worth it or just go by the naked eye?

Have you looked at a good aset for a pear? they look TERRIBLE! I would just go with the naked eye and some natural lighting

I'm just afraid that this isn't typical jewelry store lighting and it would be too easy to end up with a lemon...
You're right though, I just got back a great stone ASET and it still looks lacking.

I think it easier to end up with a lemon in normal jewelry store lighting . They can make a potato sparkle. I wonder maybe if there is a little pen light or something you can bring so that you have a good indication of the light performance in multiple lighting situations. Because isnt the point of an aset to see the light leakage and how well the diamond will perform in multiple lighting? We know a pear is going to have light leakage, so really as long as you actually see how it performs yourself, you dont need an ASET tool, because you're seeing it first hand.
