hey, new poster here. i''ve been reading a ton on PS and want to thank everyone for all of the valuable info. I am by no means an expert, so I''m hoping to get some advice about 2 asschers I saw in person and liked! I''ve read from all of you that the numbers are only a small part of it, but please let me know if one sounds better than the other from the numbers or if you see any red flags. or what other info I should be asking for. thanks!

Hi oneanddone,

Can you get any images and the crown height measurement for these? Unfortunately asschers aren''t possible to evaluate without images - if these are from a jewellery store you could ask for photos and maybe you could purchase an ASET scope you could use yourself.

Are these GIA graded?

thanks for the reply. yes, they are both GIA rated but I don''t see anything about crown height on the certificates. should a reputable jeweler have an ASET scope for me to use? is there anything from the numbers that raises a red flag so far (i.e., that the table % is greater than the depth % in #1)?

You are welcome!

The crown height is probably not going to be obtainable unless the jeweller has a Sarin or Helium scanner, however you could ask the jeweller if they have an ASET scope for you to use, its doubtful they would but its worth asking. Stones with tables greater than the depth can work in some cases but without images we won''t really know regrettably.... See what Karl says when he logs in, he might have some better advice for you.

not enough information other than to tell you both have potential.
Can you get pictures?

ok, potential is a good start! I will ask for photos and ASET data first thing Monday morning and see what they say. i''ll report back as soon as I know. thanks again for the help on this

Looking forward to pics!

Bad news, I couldn''t get ASET photos. They didn''t have the "large" ASET scope, only the tiny one which I used tonight. Here''s what I saw:

2.05 E (#1) - Lots of red in the windmill and around the outer edges. Good amount of white in the middle around the windmill (not good, right? dead spots?). Green and a tiny bit of red in the culet (p3?)

2.03 E (#2) - The windmill was mostly green, lots of red in the center around the windmill, with a bunch of green and a tiny bit of blue as well. The outer edges were mostly green with some red. There was green and a tiny touch of red in the culet (p3?). Some white spots but not as much as the 2.05.

What I saw with the ASET scope matched what I saw with my eyes for the most part. It was clear (and everyone agreed) that the 2.03 was the better light performer. But the 2.05 is still nice and faces up larger, as you can tell from the specs above - just some dead spots around the windmill in the center. And the 2.05 has a different look with the "cut cornered square step cut" and a thinner windmill - it looks busier than the 2.03, with the 2.03 looking a bit more traditional.

Any thoughts?? The smaller 2.03 with more punch, or the 2.05 which looks noticeably larger due to the smaller depth %?
