So I had originally started a thread in Hangout just mentioning that I was going to start working with Jonathan at GOG to find me an asscher. I can't believe how fast he works! It's been just over a week and I already have a video. I posted the link to it here. I think we've made our choice, but I won't say for sure what it is yet (it'll probably be obvious once you see the video) :cheeky: . We decided to have him search in lower color ranges so we could get a little more bang for the buck. As usual Jonathan totally delivered!!!

Hope you are going with the L, size is really nice, more pleasing shape than the K.

JulieN, you are right! I felt just slightly more drawn to some of the optics of the K, but we are for sure taking the L, how can you not with that size jump? LOL! I had originally told him I wanted over a carat and up to 1.5 if it was feasible within our budget...I can't believe that 1.7 might actually be in our grasp! Size was the second most important thing to me (after cut) since asschers face up smaller than other stones. I'm not super color sensitive so I'm pretty sure I'll be good with the L, hopefully in person it will be just as beautiful as it looks in pictures and video! Jonathan is so good at picking asschers though, I'm very confident that I'll love the stone.

Wow, how could I not love those?! I am going to be envious of that larger size L! I have not seen asschers in that color range, but I think there would be settings such as halos that would be very complimentary. I am betting these are big sisters to my asscher...looks like the same cutter!

That K and L...just Wow! I would be all over that L. What are you putting it in? It would be beautiful in a rose gold.

For me, I prefer the 1.5K.
Yes, asschers face up smaller, so the 1.7 would be the choice if size is a concern. However, to me, the 1.7 has an ever so slightly more rectangular look, but I am watching the video feeding my little miss, so am a little distracted!
I am Colour sensitive, so i noticed it straightaway... That is why the L colour in the asscher would bother me a bit. You mention that you are not, so go the L and it is in your budget!!

Another asscher bites the dust!! Can't wait to see the setting!

Welcome to the club!!!!!

Thanks everyone, I'm so excited! I can't decide on a setting just yet, so we will probably do a simple solitaire until I make up my mind. I've really been liking the look of asschers with side stones like bullets, or maybe traps. It was a long time ago but I've always been in love with the Leon that BrownEyedCountryGirl had...maybe something like that down the line. My previous ER was a cushion (1.28 E SI2) set in a halo setting and I really loved it, but I'm kind of feeling like I want to go a different route this time.....you know, different guy, different ring. Plus, becuase of the lower color of this asscher I'm not sure how a halo might look with higher colored melee, it will all depend how it looks in person. It might sound silly but I don't really want my new ring to resemble my old one. The good news is that the stone is definitely an upgrade in size and clarity, and I've always wanted an asscher so I know I'll be happy with it.

I'm betting you're right! Jonathan did say that they came from his *favorite* asscher cutter. And I think he even mentioned in an email to me that you got your stone from the same place....we've been talking about you ;)) LOL

Well, I am 110% happy with my asscher other than I wish my setting could hold a little larger one! Honestly, it is so worth getting the best cut stones of any type! :appl:

Some blue sapphires would really compliment the L main stone.

:appl: YAY!! I looked at the video and I LOVE the stone you chose!!!! Jonathan ROCKS! :appl:

I totally agree with your comments above that you should get a setting COMPLETELY different from before. It would be awful if anyone ever commented on the rings being similar or something dumb like that, and besides you KNOW that the folks here will be more than happy to give you ALL SORTS of wonderful ideas. :D

:appl: Congratulations on finding a gorgeous diamond and I can't wait to see the pictures once it's set (even temporarily)!! :appl:

I love your choice Bee! The optics on both the K & L are fantasic. I'm also a fan of BrownEyedCountryGirls ring. Can't wait to see how you set it. Congratulations!

I was thinking the EXACT SAME THING! It makes me happy that you think that since I really value and respect your opinions when it comes to asschers! Thanks Karl!

Just a quick update.... Pulled the trigger on the 1.7 L... I should have it Wednesday morning so hopefully I'll be able to get a few pics up before sending to be set! :appl:

Very exciting!!! :appl: I hope you love it!!!

Woohoo!!!

Congrats!! Hoping the time will go by quickly so you can get your hands and eyes in the beauty!

I hope I love it too! I've been researching L color stones in PS and I really think I'll like it!
DS - I looovvveee your daughter's Vatché solitaire! We were looking at Vatché but eventually decided to go with our local jeweler because he was willing to take my old setting (that he made) and give us a nice credit towards a new setting. So we printed some Vatché pictures for inspiration. I think my ultimate setting is something like what ericad's asscher was set in (I think someone else has it now right? I can't remember who though...). Our jeweler was trying to convince me to go for the side stones now as it will save money in the long run, but I'm just not quite ready to commit yet :cheeky: So we'll start with the solitaire and hopefully bling it up with wedding bands and then down the road I can hopefully make up my mind.

Thank you re: my daughter's ring! I certainly think it is reasonable to have your jeweler make you a temporary setting until you really decide what you want! I think it is really a good idea, in fact! Setting decisions are hard, and I have had a cheap temp setting and then 3 solitaire settings for my diamond (over 7 years)! I hate to even admit that, but there was something that bugged me about each one until I finally got to the current setting! I love it and have no plans to change it as long as I keep a solitaire. This would have been even more expensive experimenting if the settings had had diamonds in them! You just need to think carefully about a diamond wedding band style that will work well with the styles of settings you might change to later.

Thanks for that advice DS....I'll definitely keep this in mind as we search for wedding bands. We had gone back and forth between having WG or platinum for this solitaire setting....and I think that will affect the WB choice as well, since it's usually not good to have the two different metals together right? I had originally thought WG for the temp setting, but then if that means I'd have to do WG for the WB it would preclude us from upgrading to platinum later (without re-doing the band as well)...hmmm...

Then there's the issue of WG vs Plat with a lower colored stone....anyone have any opinions on this? Do you think the brighter white of the platinum would help the color or make it look more tinted due to the contrast? The setting is being made with delicate double claw prongs, so that's the only metal that will be right on the stone (no bezels or anything)

I am still kind of tempted to just do the whole thing as a 3 or 5 stone now....but I can't be positive (yet) that's the look I'll want forever and I'd feel bad changing the setting later if I did something more fancy or intricate now. My jeweler has said I should go with whatever my first instincts were (which was to start solitaire) because most clients he deals with regret it down the line when they change their minds at the last minute. The good news is that the new setting is only costing us about $200 out of pocket since we have a credit from my old setting (this is the platinum price). It's just sooooo hard to decide because if/when I want to change in a few years who knows where metal prices will be then!?!?!?! And if I did my 3-5 stone look now I'd probably be out of pocket maybe $1,000 at the most vs several thousand later on....

NOOOOO....I just read this on FedEx's website...and the last tracking update said my package was in Memphis at 5am this morning (not sure if that was Memphis time or my time...)

"The Memphis hub and flight operations experienced substantial disruptions last night due to severe thunderstorms and high winds. Potential delays are possible for shipment deliveries across the U.S. FedEx is committed to provide service to the best of our ability. Please continue to check fedex.com for updates."
