Just thinking outloud here, but I wonder if he'd even take on a project like that. I mean, he'd have to take my stones out (a little tricky) then set it in a setting I didn't buy from him. I wonder what would be in it for him!

I looked at the setting this morning again and the stones I have. I think the impact of the setting would be lost with the ratio of my stones. They are significantly smaller for the sidestones.

But I wanted to thank you again for thinking of me. (I'm still mulling over this setting though. )

I totally love that setting, it's what I want in a 5 stone! But I did notice in the JBEG pics that the center stone they had in there looks like there's an airline around it? So maybe it should be holding a slightly larger than 6.5mm stone in the middle? Wish they had closeups. And in the listing it says 6mm sides but then the JBEG listing said the sides were smaller. So maybe smaller sides and larger middle? So hard to tell with the info that is there. Stunning setting tho.

Not only that, but by the time I buy it (I don't think the price is that great), pay someone (if I can find someone) to take my stones out and set it, it would probably be as much anyway as some of the custom stuff I'm looking at.

Oh I didn't know you could do that, well yes when I look it under X3, there's a definite airline which would bug me. Maybe a 6.75mm stone would fit better? And the sides are .65 and .75 assuming more depth for old cuts so maybe 5.5mm-ish?

I got a quote to make a 5 stone built like that and it was around $2k. So yeah I guess a 3 stone similarly built would be less..or about the same?

The airline would bug me depending on the price. And for that price, it would indeed bother me. Guess I am more anal than I thought!!!

Mine's an "idea" (with a bigger price tag). This is actually a *RING*.

But yes, in theory, I like the profile better than the top view, if only because I want the ring to look like a three stone ring and not a band-o-bling!

OK all, for anyone who is still following...

Below is a ring which I am possibly going to tweak to come up with my 3 stone ring. It's not a done deal yet...I need some stars to align before I can give this project a greenlight. But TGuy likes all the "bumpy bits."

The setting would be platinum, 3 stone of course. The stone currently in this setting is 7mm across. My stones are 6mm and 5mm. I do love the openness and airy look of the gallery. The ring will have engraving on the sides and no diamonds. I also do like the fact that the stones are more secure with the prongs, but not sure how it will look with smaller stones.

Thoughts or comments?

Maybe the diamonds could be bead set in an octagonal bezel. It would give a similar appearance without as much bulky metal.

I was just making a suggestion based off what dreamer said about the prongs. Platinum. I just love the weight of platinum and the patina on antiquey looking pieces.

I still am looking at options. I need to go back to Hill street for another reason, so now that my budget may be a bit better, I will check in with Ari again to see what they can come up with. Hopefully the final decision will be made next week and I can put a deposit down and get the project underway.
