ChunkyCushionLover - Reading through the posts it seems like you have a lot of knowledge and great opinions about cushion diamonds. I posted this a couple weeks ago but wanted to get your opinion. My girlfriend has commented that she really would like a high quality diamond more than a big diamond...she loves the chunky cushion look.

overall, i like it.

the culet is a little large for me, and VVS2 at bit of an overkill but chunky cushions in the 1-1.5ct range are hard to find.

i thought modified cushion brilliants had the splintery look, but those facets look chunky...

AGS is a good lab.

have you asked for a video of it?

Yea I was curious about the culet. Is large bad?

I think you''re definitely right, I found it difficult to find a selection of high quality chunky cushions in the 1-1.5 ct range.

some people like large culets, as it adds to the vintage look. However, light will leak straight through it. I prefer small or no culet, again very difficult to find...

My ideal is a chunky cushion with a 1:1 ratio, F VS2, no culet, with great ASET images. Pretty rare!

If you are on a tight schedule, I would ask for a video asap, and snap that baby up!

Also, beware that others on PS can steal your stone when you''re looking for advice so beware of posting links... (don''t worry i don''t want your stone!)

Good on your girl for wanting a smaller better quality stone, it will perform so much better than poorly cut B&M stones

1) Culet looks to be slightly large and while noticeable in a magnified picture will be tiny at normal size, intererstingly AGS does not list this information on the certificate , not a big deal to me, it will be a lot less noticeable in person not something to worry about. The kozibe effect which is the reflection of the culet on other facets of the stone is interesting but much less noticeable in person as well.
2) You pay a premium for F Color and VVS. The VVS isn't costing you that much more but you do pay significantly more for an F color and the fact it is an AVC (these kind of optics are not easy to obtain and many have to be resent and retouched a few times before meeting Jon's strict standards).
3) Because it has a Depth of 66% which is an ideal depth for these cushions it faces up a bit larger like a 1.3 - 1.35 which is nice.
4) ASET looks great, the 3,6,9,12 virtual facets under the table strongly reflect overhead light(all red on ASET) as expected in all AVC cushions, but the nice thing about this new batch of AVCs is that Jon has reworked the proportions so the 1,3,5,7 pavillions are also almost all red in the ASET as well. This means you will get a really nice bright stone under the whole table not just parts of it.
5) The only other one I might suggest is http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6901/ it will faceup a little bigger than this one and has slightly better cut and a smaller culet, but the performance differences are probably negligible.
6) The best optics in cushions come from the perfectly square stones and this one certainly satisfies. It has a slightly rounded pillowy outline which is quite consistent with this type of of old style antique cut.
7) The girdle is thin to thick which avoids either extreme and this combined with Very Good Polish and Excellent Symmetry are all indicative of a stone with excellent craftmanship.
Please ignore any possible reference to the name of this as Cushion Modified Brilliant, AGS grades few old mine cushions and I really don't understand their criteria for naming, it is a mistake in my book and this would be called an Old Mine Brilliant if submitted to GIA.

Overall you have chosen an excellent stone and I think you will be quite happy with it.
