I guess I have to wait til next year to hear their peeps again. Though I have seen some finches eyeing the primo condo. Maybe a new real estate deal is in the works.

F&I what a story!

my mom has some jays that nest in their house and have for years, she puts out peanuts and stuff for them. recently i was at the SF garden show and found these awesome gourd ball things that have sheep wool in them, apparently this gal who makes/sells them has a sheep farm and she found that birds love to take the sheep wool and make nests because it keeps them warm, keeps rain out etc..so she created these gourd wool things with holes so that the birds can pull the wool out. got my mom a few so we're waiting to see if the birds start to build wool nests this year/next year!

funny story, we have alot of birds around our townhouses, they fly from house to house and we hear them in chorus in the mornings. this morning i opened our master bedroom window for some air and lifted the blinds. we don't have screens on the master bedroom windows right now because we have planters on our outside railings outside our windows and i just put the 'spring flowers' into the planters and we haven't put the screens back in.

a few hours later we came upstairs and i heard what seemed like really loud tweeting and i told greg, one day a bird is going to fly into the house if we don't put the screens back on! a few minutes later i walk into the master bathroom and found the 'key' to the bathroom door which normally rests on the doorsill top now laying on the floor and weird little black drops on the bathroom floor and counter. i called greg over and we were checking it out.....hey this looks like bird poo!

greg ran over to the other upstairs bedrooms, TWO birds had found their way into the house through that open window (only open about 1/4 way!) and worked their way into the blinds in both the office and the guest bedroom, one bird in each window!! they were freaking out of course and fluttering aimlessly against the windows inside the blinds. greg opened the screens and we ushered the birds out. Portia was going NUTS as she LOVES to chase birds so we had to keep her from leaping out the window after them....my god talk about 5 minutes of chaos!!!!

screens are going back on right away!

YEYYYYYYEEEESSSS!!!!! I am sooo glad that everything turned out wonderful!! I was all happy and smiley when I read your final posts..WOW... isn''t nature a miracle!!!

I have a quick bird story.
When I was about 6 we lived next door to my fathers church. There were MANY tall trees around the church and our yard. One day before church a little boy was running around with a baby bird in his hand asking who wanted to step on it. I was mortified. At the age of 6 I punched him in the face (yes I wqs a tom boy) and screamed HOLY hell in front of the church, (right before the service) I kept screaming and hold the bird cupped in my hand. I would not let anyone near it. It had no feathers and it''s eyes were closed. I was so afriad someone would hurt it. they called the fire dept and they brought their truck and (you could see the nest fffaaarr up in the tree) I finally let the fireman have it to put up in the nest. they said there were about 3 or 4 more up there.

Now, I know that there is a possiblility that the little thing did not make it. But I know in my heart that it did. I know that it was fine and I know that I checked that tree every day (looked up) until I saw little birds flying around it, and I am sure one of them was mine.

Isn''t nature a miracle?

Just want to say - YIKES

And, one more question - Are they the same Jays every year? It''s always "a" Starling that nests on our porch - but I always wondered if it was the same Starling? Do birds return to the same nesting spot? We have a very nice robins nest in our open garage; but, it''s now occupied by a sparrow.

Birds are marvelous! Hubby is convinced they are little dinosaurs.

MINE - the miracles of nature never cease to amaze me. And, the little boy who wanted to kill the bird sounds like a budding serial killer.

my mom is convinced that it''s the same jays every year...esp since they always know where to come for her peanut treats etc. i asked her how those gourd wool things were working yesterday and she said she didn''t see evidence they were using them yet...maybe nest building is over for the year..i really have no idea!
