and without a ring.

He told me pretty much as soon as we got on the plane that depending on how the trip went, there was a good chance we''d be getting engaged in February. He has a ring but still has a few fears about getting married that he wants to work through and he wanted to see that we could have a good time on a trip together (even though this is our fifth trip together so I didn''t really understand that part).

I was bummed on the flight over but by day two I''d bounced back and was happy and excited to be in paradise with him. We had an awesome time!! During our trip he asked me a couple of important questions...would I be willing to move to another city an hour away in the same state and here''s the real shocker...would I be willing to start working on a family after we get engaged even if it is before we get married. This was a shocker because we broke up back in March last year for a month because he was thinking he didn''t want kids for at least 10 years (and I will be 32 this year). He told me his timeline has changed since last March now that his dad is sick which has put things into perspective for him. So now he is wanting to start a family with me in the next year or so which has me very excited. He also talked about wanting for us to have our wedding in Kauai so everytime we did something fun or went to a nice restuarant, he''d ask, "Do you think your parents would enjoy this? What about your brother?" Then we we landed in Denver and were waiting for his mom to come pick us up at the airport we saw a Land Rover drive by and he said, "What do you think about that car? I''ve been thinking that when we get married, we will get one for you. I''m not comfortable with you driving your car in the snow especially once we have a kid".

So, despite not getting engaged in Hawaii, things are looking very optimisitic for a proposal very soon.

while we were in Hawaii, he bought me a gold sand dollar necklace that has 12 small diamonds in it. He joked that it has a diamond for every month and therefor he''d just bought another YEAR of time for a proposal. I responded to that with a huge smack on his butt and a pretend dirty look and he said, "I''m just teasing honey." So it all looks very good and hopefully he can work through whatever his issues are about getting married because I''m even more excited and impatient than I was before!

Well even though you are not engaged - I am REALLY glad you had a WONDERFUL time with your love. Hawaii is amazing and with someone you love it makes it that much better!! :) And wow - a diamond necklace!! Not bad - Not bad at all. :) Take some pictures - I''d love to see it. And it seems like things are going well anyway since he has the ring and seems to have a date in mind. :) Looks like you get to enjoy being a LIW even for a bit more. :) Thank goodness too - I LOVE having you here!! hehe

I''d say all in all, even without a ring, your trip sounds like it went very well. Serious couple talks, a solid engagement timeline, and a bit of gift bling... and you were in HAWAII. You lucky skunk.

WIll you be posting any pictures of your trip? I''d love to go to Hawaii, but it just won''t happen anytime soon so I can live vicariously through your travel photos. LOL

I will definitely post pictures of our trip (and my new necklace!) once I get back to work and have a second to upload them to my computer. We just got back this morning and I slept all day :)

That sounds promising! I bet it won''t be too long now.

SO''s cousin had a baby while still engaged/not yet married for semi-similar reasons. She has some health issues that meant she had to start sooner than later, plus her now-H is in the military so there were limited times to TTC. It worked for their situation (and their kid is freaking adorable!).

Funny that you mentioned the Land Rover -- SO always talks about getting me one someday too. Must be some protective boy thing. It WOULD be nice to have in the winter... and I love how they look.

I have to agree with equestrienne - great trip, serious couples talk, and an engagement timeline - all very exciting and wonderful things! Can't wait to see the photos from Hawaii so I too can live vicariously...

Glad you had an awesome time and got a chance to talk :)

Looks like good times are ahead enjoy the ride :):):)

Glad you had a good time in spite of not getting that proposal. Kauai is beautiful!

I keep having to remind myself that patience is a virtue and I''m waiting all in good cause.

hugs!

WOW! I don''t know how much more engaged you could get! LOL... You''re thre, but without the bling My bet is that he has an idea in his head about how he wants to propose and that''s why he didn''t do it in Hawaii. Can''t wait til he actually asks though, but you know it''s right around the corner~! Congrats!

yay!!! thats great news....my brother went to hawaii for his honeymoon and they had a blast!

glad you had some fun!!!

That''s great news that you spoke about things. Hopefully he''ll work through his issues soon so you two can get engaged!

Glad you had a fun trip! I''m sure it''s disappointing to think it might have happened and not have it pan out. But it''s much better to get these issues worked out *before* getting engaged/married then fighting about them after (been there/done that!).
The necklace sounds so pretty, too! Would love to see pics!

I''ve had talks like that with my BF, and its the best feeling ever, don''t you think? Its amazing to be able to openly talk about what you want for your lives together. You have to know in your heart that the ring can''t be too far off when you get that detailed about your lives as an engaged/married couple.

Sounds like you had an amazing getaway! I''m jealous...I''m stuck here in -14 degree Iowa.

Thanks for all of the positive comments, ladies. :) This morning my man emailed me (which he rarely does..he is not an email kinda guy) and said the sweetest thing. he wrote, "Aloha sweetie, I hope you had a nice trip with your man. I sure did; we definitely have to go back. I am excited to plan another trip with you soon. Have a good day of playing catch-up and don’t let the post-vacation-blues get you down; we still have the whole world to see! Love you!" He''s so sweet!

Here are some pics from the trip, and my necklace too! I love it!

Sometimes I wonder why guys go on romantic vacation with their girlfriends when they know that their girlfriend is hoping for or expecting a proposal. I went on vacation with my boyfriend and when I got home everyone expected that we would have gotten engaged. I wonder if he gets any pressure at all.

They don''t. It''s a guy thing.

I know a couple who got engaged on their way to Mexico. He was planning to propose once they were there, but he realized she would want to tell everyone ASAP, so he did it on the airplane or something so she could call her parents at the transfer airport.
