Bathroom Etiquette (Personal Pet Peeve)

I hate when women hover and pee or worse on the seat.

I think throwing paper on the floor for any reason is rude and disrespectful to the other people who use the restroom. They can take the last piece of towel that they used to open the door with them and find a trash bin. My mother taught me the throw my trash into a container, not on the floor where someone could slip on it.

And I'll never understand why people don't flush.

None of us can know for sure since women don't go into men's rooms and vice versa, but I think overall men are grosser than women when it comes to bathroom etiquette.

I mean I've even seen floating Baby Ruths. :knockout:
Then there's the stuff guys write on walls.
I think fewer than half even rinse their hands in water.

When I was living in ireland for 7 months I only saw ONE WOMAN even look like she was washing her hands and it was just a turn on the water, sprinkle the tips and a flick-flick and done. I NEVER EVER EVER saw a SINGLE other woman wash her hands anywhere in Ireland. Anywhere. No one. Not one. And then there's me washing with soap and water even if I touched nothing and them looking at me like I must have *really* made a mess of myself to need all of that washing. cultural thing

I understand some women "hover" as to avoid having to sit on a public toilet seat, but my plea to those women is please wipe your urine OFF the seat. NO ONE, and I mean no one, should have to clean that up. It is disrespectful and just plain rude. Act like the adult you are (the bathrooms in question is at a university so there is NO way it could be a child) and clean up after yourself. *sigh* Rant over.

What is your personal pet peeve?

ITTTA with you. I cannot STAND when grown woman act so childish and don't clean the seat.

One of my pet peeves is when words are mispronounced: Jewelry...wrong way is JEW-LER-RY...drives me BONKERS
Salmon....wrong way is SAL-mon
Ask........wrong way is AX
Birthday..wrong way is BIRF-day

You can only imagine how CRAZED I was when George W. would say Nuclear wrong ;( :angryfire: :blackeye: :((

Someone asked that in a thread a while back and I asked a friend in the cleaning business and he said on average these days the women's bathroom is worse.
It used to be the men's was always worse.

It certainly is worse in the women's bathroom at my office. We've had several incident of piles of feces ON THE FLOOR. :errrr: I'm not even sure how this is logistically possible!!! We've also had urine sprayed all over the seat, floor etc. It's disgusting. And it's a SECURE building (need a swipe card to even get IN). So it's definitely someone that works here. Gross.

Yeah, all us Irish are dirty b@stards. Sorry about that.

Seriously though. I am appalled that so few men & women choose to wash their hands after visiting the bathroom (and sneezing) (and yes that includes soap) but really you had a poor experience, don't tar the whole country with the same brush.

Actually, after years of having to clean out the restroom for the antique mall (ah the joys of building ownership) DH swears the women's is nastier. The mens gets more regularly trashed (usually with pee in random places) but the women commit more horrific bathroom crimes.

Worst one ever? Do you really want to read it? I'm going to put it in white for those who, say, may ever want to eat again. Bear in mind *I had to see it and my husband had to clean it*. Just highlight below if you have a cast iron stomach...

OK so this teeny little ancient woman comes up to DH and says "There might be a problem with the restroom," and scuttles away super fast. This is NOT a good sign. So he opens the door and discovers that someone has essentially done a fine imitation of a poop cannon. Everywhere pretty much except the toilet, and in vast, freaky quantities- and it's smeared up to the ceiling, and all over everything. Apparently they thought a paper towel would help clean the mess (and in trying this maneuver, managed to coat the paper towel dispenser too). This was clearly delusional- nothing short of closing the bathroom and bleaching it over... and over... and over again was going to fix *this* horror. I'm not quite sure how he managed to clean it up without vomiting- I seriously gagged when I saw it. Plus it was so ghastly smelling we had to room spray the whole mall repeatedly.

Typically it's the peeing on the seats that really irritates me, too. C'mon, you know you did it! You can't miss it! And it happens with such amazing frequency in bathrooms that you just wonder, are there really that many people that have such awful manners? Guess so. I can live with people spacing out on telling you that there's no TP or whatever- but the seat pee is just vile.

Thanks for all of the stories!

UPDATE: The bathroom at school now has typed signs all over (there must be 20) saying to flush the toilet. Guess that is also an issue. I was SO tempted to write in "also wipe off the seat" but I controlled myself. :saint:

no worries steel, I loved living there and the people are the best part- but I don't think it was a bad experience- I was in enough public toilets to see a trend ;)

just gotta say I am in America *loving the public restrooms!!! But I was surprised that toilet covers aren't yet universal here in the south like they are on the west coast

I have the same complaint here at work. I actually put signs in the stalls (If you sprinkle when you tinkle....) because I am so sick of cleaning up pee. I'm not a janitor, and they shouldn't have to wipe up a grown woman's pee either!!

This is rude, and very gross! I also get annoyed when I have to clean up after a complete stranger, come on!
I cannot stand when people leave toothpaste in the sink...yuck!
