Hi,
I'm new to the site and really enjoying the resource! I still have a lot of research to do, but this site is very helpful.

So we took a trip to Tiffany last summer, but I could not pull the trigger. Nothing I saw, under 35k compared favorably to what I already have. (i have a few family diamonds that I prefer to leave set as they are.) I have all round, so I want something square-ish. I'm 5'9" so I feel like I "need" a bigger stone. That said, I am seeing stones that might work for me online, but I'm not sold on the settings at the same sites.
Can anyone tell me their experience in finding a stone then going elsewhere for the setting? Or is it advantageous to work with the diamond seller who has the stone I want?

Also I notice that a lot of the settings I've seen have specs that limit the stone size. Do Asschers over 2cts frequently require custom settings?
I sort of hate to get a great stone online then have to go B&M for the setting, but maybe that's easier?

Thanks.

Most of us have gotten settings either through the diamond vendor, or through a custom ring maker such as Victor Canera or Steven Kirsch.

I will highly recommend Good Old Gold to source your asscher. I have one from them (see my avatar picture) and it is gorgeous! They pick outstanding asschers. Several of us here have one from them. I will see if I can find my thread, and someone else just chose one in the last day or so and I'll link that thread as well. I already had a setting that I was needing an asscher to fit, but Good Old Gold carries many major designer brands of settings, or you can send the stone to Victor or Steven if you want something like a custom pave halo. I also bought a round from GOG and had them send it to Vatche to set. Both of the threads will have videos that GOG took of several asschers.

Big ditto to everything DS told you. I just put an asscher on hold with GOG that Jonathan sourced for me. He is amazing...you should go to their site and click the link to their videos...it will give you an idea of what Jonathan can do.

Thank you both!
The videos are great! I'll contact Jonathan once I've decided what direction to go with the setting. I have pretty wide ranging taste and every time I see someone's ring - I find a new favorite!

I'll need to quit this forum after I select or risk a collection.

Yes, it can be very risky to stay here. I came here 7 years ago looking for a new diamond for our anniversary, and look at the number of posts I have! It is a very fun but expensive hobby!

If I have the energy (I have a bad cold), I will see if I can show you what I think are some of the best asscher settings that we have seen here. I have one in mind already.

Oh, and are you wearing it as an engagement ring or a right hand ring?

This is my favorite asscher on PS but I can't think of who owns it. There are two sides on each side....someone help me here.

Beautiful rings!
There are so many gorgeous examples on the site! (It's especially helpful to see them on hands, including ring & stone size info!)

I started looking at Ritani settings. they seem to be good quality with some elegant styles. Any other designers you might reccommend?

I'm considering a halo or solitaire on a micro pave band.
I will probably wear this on my left hand. I plan to forgo my eternity bands when I wear it. I want to be able to wear it everyday, but realistically, I won't.
I'd like a balance between feminine/delicate and sturdy.....I like the weight of thicker settings, but I really want this ring to be different from my others. I also want a substantial face size and if I can't accomplish that with the center stone alone, a halo may be the answer.

My little asscher right hand ring has a halo, and I really do like it a lot because you have the contrast between the step cut and tiny brilliant cuts in the halo. It frames the asccher nicely.

I'd use Victor Canera for micropave. You just can't beat his work. He has done a LOT of halos for people on this site!
