Best Halo setting to let in light

Hi..

I am meeting with Brian Gavin this afternoon. I was wondering if there is a certain type of halo I should request to let in the most light? Also, is there a certain micro pave style that I should request to get the thinnest band possible for a 2.5 ct round diamond?
I appreciate all the knowledge that you all have provided!

Only leaky diamonds need light let in from the pavilion side. Well-cut ones will be fine in either prongs or bezel. But if you have a leaker, a halo with the diamond mounted in a peg head so that a lot of it is above the halo will probably be the best for it. I'll try to find an example.

Okay, I see that you probably haven't bought a stone. It's not likely that you'll wind up with a massive leaker, lol. But here's the example picture anyhow. This one is from Shenoa in NYC.

well i have read that even a perfectly cut stone can be effected (ever so slightly but still) by prongs or bezels or stuff around it. not a lot, maybe not even noticeable, but everything blocks a little light.

Someone once told me a cushion halo lets in more light because it has a little bit more light coming in from the corner areas

Mine is great. I have a step cut, so getting light into my diamond is important to me. My pavillion is completely open and I have my diamond set with a girdle set right at the top halo and prong set.

A skilled setter can get be a good ally. Steven Kirsch, who set my stone and made my halo is one of the best, IMO, at that with halos.
