Bezel a sapphire?

Hello Pricescopers!

Pardon me if this is in the wrong place, but I've been pondering getting a lab sapphire from Precision Gem, or eventually a mined sapphire. If a stone that shade (medium royal ish) were bezeled, would it be too dark?

I recently had David Klass reset my diamond asscher three stone, and I think the bezel mount actually helped with the light return, but I'm not sure how that would work on a darker stone.

Let me know what you think!
Thanks!

I'm one of those collectors who doesn't worry about bezels making a stone appear darker. And my reasoning is simple... if you buy a high quality gem (especially in terms of color and cut), it will perform no matter the mounting. Most light play occurs through the table anyway. I don't think you'd have a problem with a medium or even a medium-dark-toned sapphire. And I would discourage any collector from buying a dark-toned blue, or poorly cut stone, regardless of the way they intend to set it. Does that make sense? Good luck in your hunt! :)

Medium dark precision cut should do all right in a bezel, just don't block the bottom completely. Maybe add airline "slits" at the side?

I would agree with @chrono , make sure some light comes in from the back or the sides! I'm a big fan of bezel set rings and although the stone does get dark when set, as long as it's well cut with good color, it shouldn't lose that much brilliance. I would recommend getting a lighter colored stone for bezel designs though! They tend to work better
