Hi Ladies and Gents,
The quest for an e-ring for the picky violinist (me!) continues. (My first foray started here: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...ssy-alternative-to-traditional-e-ring.184138/) We are planning on getting engaged the second weekend in March, so I need to make up my mind to give BGD a chance to build the ring! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
First I would like to thank the many people who posted their gorgeous jewelry here for me to draw inspiration from, some of whom I reference here.
Without you all I would just be stuck at a jewelry store at the mall!!
So, I've tried on lots of things, and have decided that a very low-profile 5 stone is the direction I want to go.
I got a quote from BGD for an Aurora in my size (4.25/4.5 depending on the day and the weather) and while it would fit in my budget, the team thought that 5 stones plus the 8 smaller garland stones would not fit, so they turned it into a 4 stone + 6 small garland stone design. This to me seems like it would look really wonky. I've had to move in a different direction because of this size problem so now I have a few questions:
1) I've moved on to looking into a gracefully graduated 5 stone ring instead. I have seen all types of 5 stones here on PS, and I love them. I found the right "graduation" IMHO, and its the ring in this pic!!
Sadly, now I can't seem to find it again on PS, so I don't know any of the specs. Does anyone recognize this picture? Is this from PS? Or did I pick up the pic at another site maybe?
2) I'm thinking to use the BGD 5 Stone Shared Prong as the departure point for the custom design for the ring. Its not the most dainty, so I want the underside of the ring shank to be tapered sort of like this: Does anyone have the shared prong ring from BGD? I like the way the stones are set into the band, and how the cutlets and girdles are exposed.
3) After having seen pics of the Aurora in platinum my BF/Fi is concerned I will be regret it later if I go with a yellow or rose gold. I wear 18k yellow gold all the time as a redhead, and I think its so much prettier on my skin. And now that I've seen the beautiful pictures of BGD's rose gold I'm hooked! The sales person Katie I'm dealing with hasn't yet been able to give me any information on the alloy used by BGD, but she does think that since I want a warm peachy gold that the 18k is the way to go. Here's the comparison she sent me between their 18k rose and 18k yellow. On the rosy background its tough to tell anything though. What I do not want is a gold thats as "red" as the rose gold alloy some places right now. I think thats 75% gold 25% copper. I also do not want a gold that will be more pink than apricot/peach. Lux Aeterna's gorgeous U prong is a beautiful 14k BGD creation, and is more on the pink side. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/pretty-in-pink-bgd-5-stone-u-prong.140376/. Does anyone have experience with the 18k rose gold alloy at BGD? Should I trust myself that I don't want a white metal for me e-ring?
4) Finally, its seeming that my stones will be of a size (all under .4) that it may not make sense to get certified stones. We're talking in the vicinity of $2500 for all the stones. And I'm not sure it makes sense to insist on certified and spend an extra $1,000 to make that happen? Am I safe with BGD? Is there another vendor people can recommend? I find WF to have generally less delicate designs, so I haven't considered talking to them yet. I really want the most sparkle possible, so thats why I'm into these super ideal stones.
Thank you all for any and all help you can give!!!!!
