Tourmaline Lover, YOU win the prize.
It is a synthetic spinel, in a Portuguese cut. It resembles the color for September.
Not a particularly valuable stone (money wise) but a lovely reminder of my grandmother.
I also took another ring that she had given me, it turns out to also be a synthetic spinel, but it's set in gold and rose gold with the maker's mark on the ring and little rose gold roses on each side.
