Birthday = National Holiday?

I LOVE birthdays, but I definitely don''t consider my own to be a national holiday. I have a friend who believes her birthday is a national holiday, but I don''t allow her delusions to bother me.

I think I love my birthday so much because my parents always made a huge deal out of us on our birthdays. You know, birthday cake in the morning before school, funny hats to parade around in all day. We didn''t have much, so my mom had to be super creative and she always came up with the most incredible birthday parties (e.g. Gizmo Olympics party at home, complete with events and medals!)

My best friend of 22 years and I were born in the same hospital, one day apart. We always like to celebrate our birthdays together, and I suppose it''s evolved into more of a celebration of our friendship than our birthdays. I don''t throw parties for myself, though. DH and I usually go to Morton''s for steak and he writes me a long handwritten note.

I don''t really see anything wrong with your SIL throwing herself two parties, to be honest. Being angry that you aren''t attending them is childish, though.
