Keep the scratching post. We adopted a declawed Himalayan cat years ago and he loved "scratching" the rug and scratching post. It''s a natural habit to scratch and it makes cats feel good. I wish people understood that when they have their cat declawed the vet is actually performing ten small amputations. You''d be amazed the damage declawing does, and how many people then turn around and give the cat up for adoption because it pees all over the house....but what did they expect? The texture of litter is painful to a declawed paw pad. if you associated your toilet with pain you wouldn''t want to pee in it either.

Awwwwww...What a beauty! I love her!

Lola! What a beautiful name and it totally suits her. She sure is a smart lady, picking out her own name

I have 5 cats, all fully clawed. Whenever someone talks about declawing their cats because they fear cats will ruin their furnitures, I tell them how all my furnitures are still intact. Covered in cat hair mind you, but intact

. I have scratching posts and clip their nails weekly, but even if I wasn''t blessed with well behaved boys and girl what''s a ruined couch compared to the happiness they bring into my life?

Enjoy your new baby and can we have more pictures please?

Babyblue, the handsome boy in your avatar made me laugh out loud!

So cute! Happy Birthday!!!

Princess: What a wonderful day for you and Lola both! Happy birthday!

The perfect gift!I bet she would look great in a diamond collar...better keep your jewelry box closed so she cant borrow your tennis bracelet! My cat has a thing for any gold chain...she always takes a jump for them when they hit the light when i move!

Lola looks beautiful...what color is she? she looks a different color in both photo''s.

I thought it was illegal to declaw cats? It certainly doesn''t happen in the UK.

I''ve seen those odd plastic tips that people glue on, but I don''t know if the cat can retract the claws with those on.

She looks a real cutie though!

Awww...I like Lola, and I think its a hoot that she was so definite in picking it out for herself

In terms of the beds, what the others said is true - you can''t force them to like it. But I have found that it helps a lot if it feels sheltered i.e. has high sides and/or is covered.

Oh, whatta wonderful present to give yourself! And I just KNOW Miss Lola appreciates it most of all!

What a wonderful story, and what a beautiful animal!

I had 4 wonky boys before we adopted her and it''s such a treat to have a little girl, she truly is a little princess and love of my life

So when can we expect to see more Lola pictures huh?

What a very cool gift for yourself. Enjoy her!

What a beautiful girl. And bless you for taking in an older (not kitten) cat...they are often overlooked and still have so much love to give. And they''re less hassle than kittens too, IMO!

She''s gorgeous!

Miss Lola is, as far as I know, just a gray cat.

She''s quite the little lady, and an amazing alarm clock. Oh boy, I did not expect to have to get up at 6 just because she does. But oh well. It''s worth it.

I''ll try to get a few more pictures tonight. She''d much rather play or cuddle than stay far enough away for decent pictures. I''m not complaining, though.

Lola is such a cute name! Where in NC do you live?

I''m in Charlotte. I think I read you''re in NC, too, right? Where are you?

Awww...so cute. You might have to rope a friend into being the photographer while Miss Lola cuddles and plays with you

Happy Birthday! I love kitties!

Same! If we ever have a GTG you should come!

She''s so cute!! And who doesn''t love a lap-cat? Happy Birthday!

Tacori, I''ll definitely be at the next GTG!

AG, I love the idea of getting a friend in to take photos. I''ll have to get BF to take some when he comes down to visit.

She''s beautiful! She reminds me of my childhood cat, Shadow, who was also a shelter find.

Happy belated birthday! Lola is such a cutie, congratulations!

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!!! And isn't that just one of THE BEST presents EVER!!! She's a true gem... and her value is beyond the finest rubies! Congrats on opening your heart and home to such a wonderful love!!!

Oh, I have tears in my eyes. She's so precious and beautiful!!!

I'm so HAPPY for you!!!!!!!!

Aww... LOLA!!!

As for the bed... good luck with that. We have "The Original Scratch Lounge" and Hally adores it. Beyond that... she'll probably like YOUR bed, if she's anything like mine.

How wonderful! My cat Jack was a birthday "present" last year (the ability to go adopt him)! Best gift ever!!! And how cool that Lola picked her name! My Lucy did the same thing... as soon as I said Lucy she perked right up and looked at me as if to say "Yes!"

Our cats only use their beds when they are where they would like to sleep. The one in the corner of the living room gets a lot of use because it is tucked away next to furniture. The one in the bedroom is at the foot of our bed on a cedar chest. They can see the hallway from it. Location, Location, Location!!!
