I have this stone for a while, was set very loosely in a vintage ring, and it attracted me when l shed a light through it. It's blue green, opaque, , 1.35ctw , looks like paralel needle structure , or layered with inclusions. I would like to know your opinions before l set it. Anyone has something similar? Google lens says sapphire?. Thanks

Could be a very included Sapphire, however, can't tell based on photos alone, sorry!

DK :))

the structure is so distinctive , l believe that someone who has something similar can recognize it. very neatly faceted stone.

Out of interest, why do you think that?

Sorry, IMHO, it is not a very nicely faceted stone when compared with precision cut stones that I have purchased.

DK :))

Perhaps. But in terms of value it will be almost completely worthless - a few bucks. If you like it that’s fine.

yes , l love the color, l didn"d intend to sell.

someone made an effort to facet a cheap, tiny peace of stone. l was surprised when l saw it was faceted,

Google lens is not an appropriate gemstone identification tool. If this is yet another stone that you have removed from a gold plated piece of jewelry, there is a zero percent chance it is a natural sapphire. Removing stones from costume jewelry does not somehow make them appropriate candidates for the colored stone forum.

synthetics again? :lol-2: the stone is colored and according to my diamond tester ll it is a natural stone. google lens l use only for quick orientation. why are you following me on this forum? :wavey:

synthetics again:lol-2: the stone is colored and , according my diamond selector ll , it"s a stone. what do you think what it could be? if l tell you the ring was marked , would you change your opinion.? why are you following me on this forum, from Thursday 6h 35min?:wavey:

A diamond tester cannot tell whether or not a stone is natural. It is clear you know full well that these posts are inappropriate for this forum. I hope your cat enjoys playing with this stone, as well.

Ya know, if a tester is testing for corundum, the obvious question would be, who on earth would go to the trouble of creating a lab sapphire that looks like this instead of... well, damn near flawless?

Which is why it’s probably natural. Completely worthless but likely a natural mineral.

thank you all:)

Maybe better to put your stones and pieces all in one thread from now on, because they're quite a bit for newcomers to the forum to be greeted with. If you put it in the "Hangout" section, any type of gem or jewelry would fit there.

but l have more Alexandrites for this forum:read: that"s nothing in comparison how l was greeted when l started, and you are worried about greetings. but l overcame your comments. thanks for advice:lol-2:

Please stop creating multiple threads and then arguing with people who reply. Make one thread with your stones. We give our opinions, which is what you are requesting, no? We cannot tell you 100% what your stones are as we do not have them in our hands, using proper tools.

People here are helpful and love seeing colored stones, but don't appreciate it when others question their opinions and motives. If you want our assistance, please don't question why we are reading your numerous threads.

Maybe we need to keep in mind that english is a second language here, and that correctly reading the tone of a message on a forum is hard even without the language barrier.

@natalija: we welcome your postings and stones. Going forward, please use one thread to show all your stones. Since you are posting multiple stones and asking for opinions, it will be much easier for everyone to follow if they are all consolidated in one thread. Thanks.

My concern with setting this stone is whether it can be set safely. There might be inclusions that, when under the heat and pressure of the setting process, could cause issues to the stone. Your jeweler would have to advise.

I agree the stone could be sapphire. I did a quick Google search for opaque stones in this color range. Apatite came up. However, I don't know if apatite can have needle inclusions in this form. Here's an example.

As for the 'drama' aspect - I don't mind mind the idea of allowing synthetics on this subforum (same with the diamond and synthetic diamond subforums) but understand why many would prefer separation. That is what I think some of natalija's threads have boiled down to, regardless of whether their stones are natural or synthetic. To me it doesn't matter outside of discussions where synthetic/natural status is relevant. However, I do have my own personal preferences for what I would buy/set. I am not a veteran or mod so my opinion on this doesn't matter much.

@natalija: My honest advice is if you feel like you are not getting something positive from an online space (fun, education, etc), take a step back and return a few weeks later. I have taken breaks from online communities for various reasons and I felt better upon returning.

numerous threads? ok , l"ll make a pause. it"s not my fault, as a new member l have a lot o f questions and posts. l react only if l can feel underestimation of my stones, what is odd to me is the fact that some members can"t give a positive ID, but they know what it is not. "?" l just stopped myself to mention some members who are not very constructive and friendly, just in order to prevent discussion. I"ll make an effort to post one stone at the time. really appreciate if you can read my threads. l can"t do it although l am the author. " sorry, this is my first forum. i"ll try to learn. my goal was not to have publicity, but sometimes l can"t resist to answer on obvious provocation. :read:

ITA (even though I don't think this particular stone is synthetic). Some members are very plain spoken, and I absolutely understand and respect that. The majority are here to be helpful and constructive. But I just can't comprehend why this poster draws such ire. I feel like if her posts bug you, maybe it's best to just skip them. Some stones might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I don't find OP rude or confrontational? I think she just wants to join in on the fun.

Thinking out loud
I think the catalyst was that their opening posts had alex, claimed natural, and gifted by or priced at a low price by a jeweler (don't remember). A controversial gem material here, with so many first time posters having obvious, huge synthetics or color-change synthetic corundum - to the point of a sticky thread addressing this issue. If this (lets assume) sapphire was posted first, and OP made it clear that they loved the stone despite the flaws, I think responses would be more supportive/neutral.

I am sorry l can't post a video, you would change your mind. I post a lot of photos because l want to show colour change. If we have 2 forums , who is going to decide what is lab and what is natural? Reality show.

Ahh I see (thank you). I'm not an alexandrite collector myself, so I wasn't aware of what a hot topic it is. Still though, I feel like some of the more hostile responses have been a bit unwarranted. And it just makes me sad. :confused2:
