BLUE NILE - ANY FEEDBACK

Nerf, if you can post the proportions of the diamond you ran through the HCA, that would help, but I am guessing it is a shallow stone, and it hasn't scored well it seems.

With VS and SI clarity there can be many variables, but many would opt for an SI clarity if eyeclean and the cut was good, as you can save some money. However some always prefer VS as a matter of taste. But basically if both a VS and SI diamond were eyeclean, you wouldn't be able to tell with the naked untrained eye.

this is one i order''d i guess i should have asked this befoer...
but oh well i can always have it replaced

0.5, G, SI1, ideal cut
polish - excellent
symmetry - very good
fluorescence - none
table 59
depth 61.1
slightly thick faceted
no cutlet
31.5 - crown
41.8 - pavillion

does this help?

Ok, we could do better, but see what you think when it arrives, it may be scoring poorly due to the shallower crown angle and steep pavillion angle, but see how you like it when you see it! Has it already been set and shipped?

Hi Lorelei

yeah

And if it hasn't been shipped, please, start over. Lorelei's right, you can do much better.

ETA, nevermind.

they have a 30 day return policy...

okay so what am i looking for in the searches then?
i knew i was no guru at this - ah well its a learning experience

Regarding eyecleanliness, we can't tell at this stage, I would think it should be fine in that size, but really you can't tell until you see it. Regarding the cut, I think see how it looks when it arrives. The cut could be improved on judging by the numbers, but it is hard to tell unless you have a diamond with proven proportions that result in good brilliance, that we can say for sure....Is it too late to start again, if you contact them now you might be able to and we can help you find another diamond with BN if you like.

THANK YOU SO MUCH LORELEI!!!!

lets see how it is....if its shiney im fine...

thanks so much for ur help....

Nerf - I expect that you will see sparkle in your stone. It is, after all, a diamond.

Now, the diamond that I wear scores 2.8 on the Cut Advisor. I purchased it before Pricescope existed. It has fewer sparkles than the Blue Nile earring stones I bought last year which score 1.4 on the Cut Advisor.

Last year I thought I had lost my diamond, so I was looking for a replacement. The store brought in several, and I could tell right away that they sparkled less than my lost diamond. After wearing it daily for seven years, I knew it pretty well! I went home and ran the potential replacements through the Cut Advisor, and they all scored around 5.

So, I expect that there would be a visible difference between the stone you ordered and one with better angles. But, unless you compare it, side-by-side, with some other diamonds and compare how they sparkle, you probably won''t know.

thanks fly girl....
i know some ppl love their diamonds...this would be my first .....and to be honest i just want it to look nice....i know specs are important but i am not a guru yet....so i dont htink i would notice...so as mentioned i just want it to sparkle and look nice - thats all that makes me happy hehe

See how you like it when it arrives Nerf and post some pics for us if you do like it and decide it is a keeper!

Each diamond has its own personality. This may be even more true of the ones that are a bit wonky in some respect, such as my favorite stone. Yes, you can become quite attached to it!

I hope that you enjoy being a diamond owner. It gives many of us here on PS a great deal of pleasure.

This diamond is a good one, see the proportions such as depth, table, crown and pavillion angles to see what to look for. Click on the AGSL report to see those. Also it looks like a small inclusion on the table, but in that size it may well be eyeclean as you can''t really tell by the plotting diagram.

THAT is an awesome stone you suggested, Lorelei. Nerf, I would encourage you to consider this one over the one you ordered. If you could compare the 2 side by side I bet this one would ROCK.

And BN is VERY easy to exchange things with.

I recently purchased a loose diamond from Blue Nile, and was somewhat happy with it. The diamond is supposed to be an SI1/G by AGS, but it is very yellow... I have taken it to a few places and also to an appraiser who told me it is ''I'' color. So I am returning it and will purchase a different one from them, hopefully with some better luck. The diamond is eye clean, just like they told me, and it sparkles like crazy too - it''s not signature ideal but it''s AGS000. They aren''t giving me any hassle returning it and they are even holding a few stones for me until I get everything in order. HOPEFULLY they will reimburse me for the shipping charges since the diamond doesn''t appear to be the right color grade (they said they would have their jewellers check it out and then they might work something out - but I''m not keeping my hopes up on that). All in all they seem ok, the proof will be in the new stone I receive.
From personal experience, and from reviewing the #''s on other BN Signature Ideal cut stones, I don''t trust their cut grading. AGS000 on the other hand is AWESOME as far as cut and performance goes. I''m sorry that kicking stone didn''t turn out to be satisfactory in the color department. Maybe you can luck out and find another AGS000!

I have made several purchases with Blue Nile, and I have been 100 percent satisfied with them. I have purchased both from their signature ideal line and ideal unbranded stones. I think with all diamond purchases, the quality of the stone you recieve is largely dependent on the knowledge of the person selecting the stone. If I were purchasing a GIA graded stone, I personally would select a signature line stone, because then I can see an actual picture of the diamond before purchase. With AGSL, I feel confident that an AGSL 0 stone will be brilliant and true to grade. The HCA really helps to make decisions. Their 30 day return policy definitely helps too because there is no risk involved. Good luck with your purchase.

I couldn't agree more. I somehow managed to select a not-so-hot signature ideal cut from BN. I blindly trusted the "Signature Ideal Cut" label. My stone is pretty, but now that I have gained much more knowledge I realize there are certainly better cut stones out there. That is my only concern, there are SOME signature ideal cut stones that are not top-notch cut. Not all, some. :) I just don't want others to do what I did and not check the numbers......
