I do apologies if this topic has been discussed before. I’m currently in the process of commissioning a jeweler to create a custom ring - blue sapphire on a platinum, halo, pave setting.

I’ve done a lot of research on diamonds before and quite aware of how much diamonds are. However, I’m left puzzled when it comes to sapphire.

How do I know what is reasonable to pay for a 2 ct, blue sapphire, halo/pave setting?

What characteristic should I be asking? What price range is acceptable with the above requirements?

Any info would be great!!!

Go to the top left corner and hit report concern- ask the mods to move this to the colored stone forum as the ladies there can help you search for a blue sapphire. You will need to give more details.

What level of treatment/ heating are you ok with?
With color sapphire are you looking for- come armed with pictures as your version of a med blue will not be the same as others.
What shape are you looking for? Saturation etc.

For reference a good 2ct sapphire will cost much more than a 2ct diamond. However, there are cheaper options out there. By having a sapphire heated that will bring down the price. Heating is an acceptable form of treatment while BE is not (meaning it is nuked). If you have this topic moved to the CS forum you will find many threads on there asking for help with finding sapphires.

When you have your sapphire then come back and post in RT to help find a setting.

Take a look at this thread:

I also have a sapphire cut by Richard Homer. His cut is really beautiful on round stones. His gem gallery is apparently being updated as I could not access the stones last night. But you can email or call him and have him send you a list of what he has and the pictures. You need to source your own sapphire! They vary wildly in quality and I would not have the ring maker source it for you.

Thanks diamondseejer2006 for sharing the links! :)

Sarahbear621- I've requested to move the thread.

The jeweller has posted 3 sapphire stones for me to look at
