The backstory is too long to type out so I'll just post the pictures. I took the risk of getting a new jeweller to open up the setting which is supposed to fit a 5 mm stone to get a 5.7 mm stone in it instead. The jeweller has done excellent antique settings by hand and with coloured stones which gave me some measure of confidence that he could pull this off.
This is the least attractive look for the blue sapphire which is under fluorescent lighting but the bonus in terms of photography is that the pictures are very sharp and clear.
