The backstory is too long to type out so I'll just post the pictures. I took the risk of getting a new jeweller to open up the setting which is supposed to fit a 5 mm stone to get a 5.7 mm stone in it instead. The jeweller has done excellent antique settings by hand and with coloured stones which gave me some measure of confidence that he could pull this off.

This is the least attractive look for the blue sapphire which is under fluorescent lighting but the bonus in terms of photography is that the pictures are very sharp and clear.

The profile is very pretty with a gentle slope upwards to the basket. The melees are single cut and the setting is platinum, with a tiny melee in each corner of the basket.

Last set of pictures showing the sapphire at its best. Note to self to clean the iPhone camera lense in order to get sharper pictures. :nono: It makes a huge difference if the lense is dusty.

It is a cloudy day today so it's not ideal for photography. The tone of the sapphire deepened a notch once set because it is more enclosed and set lower than the previous setting. This isn't an issue though because it was a medium toned sapphire to begin with.

Due to the "extra" corners of the setting and the added width of the shank "double row of melees", it makes the entire ring look more substantial so I foresee myself enjoying this ring more than the previous one. The previous setting felt too "young" for me and I need some oomph finger coverage.

That came out beautifully, Chrono! Love the kind of art deco setting & it shows off the sapphire so well -- I like the less-light tone. You'll enjoy wearing this one for a long time!

That looks amazing!!!! Your trust in your jeweller was well founded. :)

I was wondering what was going on with this project, so I'm glad you started a thread. That is a beautiful and perfect new home for your sapphire and I hope you get lots of enjoyment out of your new ring.

Well you know I had my reservations about whether this would fit but I was wrong because it looks gorgeous. Actually I like the way it makes it appear that the sapphire is an unusual cut. Love it! :appl:

I think it looks great in that setting :) My e ring is the same style but with an OEC.
Is this the sapphire you got from Tan?

Absolutely beautiful. My favorite color of sapphire. I didn't see it before, but if this is the appearance it has color wise in this setting, I think you made a fantastic choice. I also love the unusual setting, giving the appearance of a different cut, very neat.

The setting makes it look larger than 5.7 mm too, I like that as well.

That color is gorgeous!!

Looks great! The sapphire is a great color and the setting def makes it look bigger than 5.7mm! :appl: :appl:

Beautiful reset!

I love it!

JewelFreak,
Thank you. I was surprised by how much it changed the look of the stone. Is this considered Art Deco?

NKOTB,
Yes, I am notoriously slow in getting things set even when I have the design pat down or setting in hand. The only reason this one is quick, relatively speaking, is because I was "forced" to remove the sapphire from the old setting for a potential sale.

LD,
On some days, you can tell me "I told you so" but I'm glad it was unnecessary in this case. You can tell me "I told you so" with regards to the reset though (that it is more suited to the sapphire than the other setting). I noticed that the stone now looks octagonal rather than round which works in my favour because I love the unusual looking outline.

IN,
So........where is a picture of your OEC e-ring? I'd love to see it and don't mind if you post it in this thread. Yes, this is the same stone from Tan.

Katharath and Royalstarrynight,
Thanks! The stone isn't perfectly round. It measures just over 5.7 mm on the shorter end but almost 6 mm at the longer side. Strange that I did not notice this when the stone is loose. Isn't it amazing that with the right setting, a stone can look bigger and without a halo too.

Kelinas, Rosebloom and lknvrb4,
You are too kind. Thank you for the compliments. I'll try to take better outdoor pictures later today or tomorrow.

Great reset for a gorgeous sapphire!

I love the setting, great choice Chrono!

I love how the setting makes the stone appear to be a fancy-type of shape, which I love, very flattering to the stone. Good choice!

Beautiful stone and setting! I love it

Okay I'll take one later. For some reason it doesn't photograph well though.

Beautiful stone in a beautiful setting ! I love Art Deco. Another Chrono masterpiece ! :appl: :appl:

Very pretty design & stone. I love the prong/basket style ... Not something you see everyday. Gorgeous!

Chrono- I love everything about this ring! Gorgeous color, gorgeous shape and gorgeous setting!!! Well done!!! :appl:
Wear in health and happiness!!!

Beautiful!! so glad that you found such a skilled jeweller to fit that gorgeous sapphire into the setting - it looks amazing! I love that colour and it really suits you! Enjoy!

Catmom, Rosetta, Chris, Woofmama, Sonoma, Joco, Missy and Enerchi,
Thank you so much for sharing my joy with the reset. This is one ring that is a definite keeper.

InnerKitten,
Not to worry. I love old cut stones and settings and would appreciate ANY pictures of it.

Love the vintage feel of the setting and it makes the stone pop. Enjoy it!

Just adding these for Chrono. As you can see the design is very similar. Mine has baguettes on the side though but also a small pave diamond at the end like yours but none in the prongs. Plus it has tiny itty bitty double prongs that come out of the corners that you can't see in the picture. This one's from around 1925. Sorry for the bad photos. basically when I try to take photos of this ring I just get lots of reflection and not much detail. A combo of bad photography skills and a not so great camera.
