I have been looking for a round blue sapphire for a setting I found last December for our anniversary, and I wanted to find a pair close in color to make halo earrings similar to Katie Holmes' :)) . The ring stone was hard to find because I needed a particular size, but the a well matched pair was also something I had difficulty finding. So a good friend with access to fine gem dealers found me a gorgeous electric blue, diamond-cut pair for my earrings (1.37 ctw, 5.5mm)! And I got beautiful ring stone cut by Richard Homer (1.42 ct.,6.6mm). All are heat only (I was open to unheated or heated stones that met my specs and could not find unheated).

First picture is of the pair, and I will tell you now that the pictures do not come close to capturing their glow and sparkle! Then there will be a picture of the pair with the ring.

They are quite beautiful DS

I remember the Katie Holmes earrings :) It's hard to find nice pairs and yours look really nice. They will make great earrings and of course look fab with that beautiful sapphire ring.

Gorgeous ring - I really like it from the stone to the uniqueness of the shape of the sides. May I ask who crafted it for you please?

Another request also! I have NO idea what earrings you are referring to! Any chance of posting your inspiration photo?

Nice match!

There were a few posts about them here on PS when she got married.

Ohhhhhh...DS, your sapphire set is gorgeous! You must post pics when you get the earrings set!

Lovely lovely sapphires, drool! The earrings will look just fabulous haloed like that! Will you put me in your will?

Gorgeous!

Look forward to seeing the earrings when they are set.

Thank you! I've never seen them before. Very pretty!

DS!!!!! I saw your new ring in your avatar and thought, "She got it!!!" It's gorgeous! And I love the sapphire pair, too! I am thrilled for you - congratulations on both! I love how you plan to set your earring sapphires; it's classic and just beautiful. And I love your Richard Homer concave cut sapphire. I have been looking at his site again lately and admiring all the beautiful sapphires!

I too have been looking for a matched sapphire pair, for a few months now. I had a pretty 5.5 pair here to look at but I felt they were a little too small, since I don't plan to halo them. So the hunt begins again! You're so right about how hard it is to find matched pairs - and the prices as you get bigger are a bit shocking!

Congratulations again on your blue sapphire trio. I am really happy for you!

I commented on your gorgeous ring in your SMTB thread but that pair is beautiful too! DS, have you considered getting some jackets from IDJ instead of putting those in permanent halo settings?

Thank you so much brightice, innerkitten, LD, GemFever, Smith, JewelFreak, Pandora, blueiris, and stargurl!

LD...the ring is by Beaudry and was on sale at Pearlman's. The brand is very overpriced so I only admired the rings from afar until Pearlman's decided to stop carrying the line and were selling their in stock rings for 60% off! Some of them are still very high, but this was one of the more simple rings with fewer diamonds.

innerkitten..thanks for finding pictures of Katie Holmes' earrings! I honestly have wanted the earrings for a long time, but when I found this ring, I thought it would be perfect to have the ring and earrings sort of match. So that spurred me on to try to find stones that could go together.

JewelFreak..it is about time we had another get-together! I haven't even seen your beautiful blue spinel since it was set!

blueiris!...have you chosen a wedding band yet? I am looking forward to pictures of your Vatche e-ring and whatever band you choose! I wish I had done sapphires earlier because the prices are really high. They have always been high, but they are pretty bad now. I decided to go ahead and put a small blue sapphire in this ring since the likelihood of me being able to get a fine quality 3 carat one is pretty much out of reach. I'll have to focus on another color sapphire or a spinel for that kind of project!

Smith...we need to share our new sapphire jewelry and then we'd really have a complete set!

Pandora...I am not sure when I will have the earrings set, but I will post pictures when I do!

stargurl...yes, I have considered the jackets like Mara and Alj just got. I haven't 100% decided what to do yet which is why I am not rushing to get them set. I'd love to have some of the jackets regardless of what I do with these sapphires, though!

Thank you all, again!

I really like the color of those blues.

Gorgeous, DS. I think the Homer sapphire looks great in your setting, too. This will be a wonderful matched set!

AWESOME pair, DS!! You are on (saph-)"FIRE"!!

That is a beautiful pair of stones you've found - they will be gorgeous when set. Will they be studs and have jackets worn on occassion? are you considering halo-ing them? what about a halo setting, then a larger jacket that you could DOUBLE halo, if you felt like it? ( 8) :naughty: - on the spot thinking! I like that idea!!) Or will they be drop/dangles??? So many ideas!!!

Very excited for you - wonderful set you are building :appl:

Love the depth of the blue color on your sapphires! Who will you use for your earring settings?

Thanks so much minous, Lula, Enerchi, and mom2boys!

Hmmm...I have thought about doing jackets, but I am leaning toward having these set permanently in a delicate halo because I don't want them to be so blingy/dressy that I can only wear them rarely. As to who to make them, that is a good question! I am thinking of getting a quote from Maytal Hannah because her work is really great and the last time I priced something, it was reasonable for custom. I am going to set them in platinum to go with the ring. I love Victor Canera's work, too, but I probably can't afford him!

Pretty ring and the color on all the stones is excellent! Congratulations - nothing like a beautiful blue sapphire!

No decision on a wedding band yet! I did try a sapphire/diamond one and an all diamond one by Beverley K. Strangely, I liked the way the sapphire/diamond band looked with my e-ring better in the photos I took, than I did on my hand. My husband really likes the idea of sapphires/diamonds for a band, but he is also agreeable to an all-diamond band. He understands the concept of getting different bands, but honestly, I'm not sure how many I'll end up getting. I was really surprised that I didn't love the BevK bands with my ring as much as I thought I would. I wonder if they're just a tad too narrow. They looked a little "lost", we thought.

I keep watching eBay to see if a shared prong Tiffany comes along ... so far no luck. One seller has a 5.5 and a 6.5, but no 6. Darn! And I'm still considering the Memoire diamond band, too. Back to sapphires for a moment ... did you by any chance try on the shared prong sapphire/diamond band at Tiffany? I seem to remember that you didn't try on any colored gem bands but wanted to check.

I really love your RH sapphire! It's gorgeous. I think you made a fantastic decision. Would your setting fit a 3-carat stone, or were you thinking of that size of sapphire for another setting altogether? I wish I had done sapphires earlier too; I always seem to come in on the high end! Darn that Kate Middleton. ;) My first goal is the earrings. I've found a few larger matched pairs but they are very, very expensive. I just love the color of yours and would love something like that for myself, only 7mm or so. I think yours will look fabulous when they are halo set. I love Katie Holmes's earrings. I can't wait to see yours!

No, unfortunately I didn't try on the sapphire and diamond bands at Tiffany's. I honestly didn't see any, and if I had, I would have tried them on. You end up mesmerized in that store and don't always think of everything at that moment! I'd love to have one, though, as an alternate. But I am trying to get these current projects finished before I buy another thing!

7mm sapphires for earrings? Wow! Now those will be amazing! But oh, so expensive, too! My three sapphires were expensive, but I know myself and I would have had regrets later had I not gone with the quality I wanted. What I meant about 3 carats was that I'd love to have a simple three-stone ring with 3ct.+ colored stone center and diamond sides, and fine blue sapphires at that size are out of my price comfort range at this point. So that future project will either be another color sapphire or a spinel. How will you set your sapphire earrings?

I didn't recognize you DS, are you doing something different with your hair  I like the new profile pic.

It looks like from now on DS might actually stand for delicious Sapphires.

Lol!!! Glad DS can work with my other gems! Thank you!

You are too far away to make simple earrings, but I am still thinking about something for you to make me in the future!

I know what you mean; sometimes there are SO many projects! (BTW, I just saw your ring thread on your ring in SMTB, and am so glad I found it to see MORE photos of that beauty!) My husband really preferred the look of the shared prong Tiffany sapphire/diamond band over the BevK one, but talk about expensive ... yikes! I am determined that I will have a sapphire/diamond band of some kind, at some point, though!

I hope 7mm isn't too large! The 5.5mm sapphires I had here were very nice but they were just a little too small for me (remember I'm tall, and my ear lobes aren't petite either!), unless I decided to add a halo. I don't know how I will set them yet. I'm sort of torn between "just plain" studs in a martini setting, or something with a small diamond, most likely with both the diamond and sapphire bezel set. I wear a bezel set diamond pendant every single day, and I plan to wear it always (it has a very special meaning to me), so I wondered if the addition of a diamond to the sapphires would help "coordinate" with that. Not that I have to be matchy-matchy, of course. Though I tend to, in spite of myself!

I really think we could be sisters, between our taste in jewelry, and how well we know ourselves in terms of not compromising on our choices. (Also - I keep forgetting to tell you that I have a daughter with the same name as your daughter whose name begins with "C". :)) After looking at sapphire prices for the last few months, I can really understand why you would be hesitant about a large sapphire purchase right now. Maybe prices will drop at some point - I guess we can hope! But I think a really nice blue spinel would be a great choice for a three-stone ring, and a lot less expensive too. I've seen a few that I thought were sapphires at first.

In spite of me not really loving to wear a ring on my right hand. I really want a sapphire ring, too. There is something about staring into that pool of blue - mesmerizing! I have no idea how I'd set one though, and I know I need to give that more thought before choosing a stone. Meanwhile, I'll just keep returning to stare at yours!

No way! We have daughters with the same name? That really IS amazing especially since I don't consider it a common name, although classic! What does her middle name start with?

I totally agree that 5.5mm is too small to wear as plain studs. But you know what? Even if you didn't want to set a diamond with them, which is a nice idea, I think something like a milgrain bezel would be gorgeous!!! I had even considered that if I had gone larger. You know I have a diamond bezel pendant, too, but mine is too small and I am thinking of resetting. All my jewelry shrinks when I have been on PS a lot! 7mm definitely won't be too large because mine will likely be 8mm with the halo.

Like you, I rarely wear RHR's so I am more focused on getting my staple pieces like I want before starting anything else.

 That's super cute comment :) because I was think the same, DS look different hmm...it's this the same DS LOL...

OH...DS your set is TDF the color are so matching the whole set, can't wait to see when it's finish.

Thank you, luckky! I was worried about the avatar change and hope people don't think the real me is gone!

I think all three stones are beautiful. Your ring is gorgeous.

Actually, it's her middle name; her first name is the same as mine (family name, so we wanted to continue it) and we thought it would have been too confusing so we opted to have her use her middle name. I love her name; you're right that it's a classic!

Shrinking jewelry - eek! I love my bezel set pendant and the bezel does add a little width. I think it would be gorgeous for you to have one with milgrain!

I did consider that a bezel will add something to the earrings and that I may be able to get away with a little smaller size if I choose to bezel set. I have a pair of 6.5 mm sapphires coming for a look, that I just happened across on Etsy. It was impossible to really see what they look like from the photos, but there is a 10-day return policy so I thought it might be worth the risk, since the price point was good. Maybe too good, based on what I've seen on other sites. And 6.5 mm may be big enough.

Like you, I am going to want the same general color of blue in a sapphire for a ring as I want for earrings. How did you accomplish that? If you have any tips on how to judge the sapphires, or other places to look, etc. - please pass them along! I've been trying to learn as much as I can about sapphires from reading here, but I still feel very clueless and I would be sick if I spent a large amount of money and later regretted my choices.
