I recently purchased this stone from Brilliant Earth (https://www.gia.edu/report-check?reportno=14DD8226015BAF66F426E9AB86051581&qr=true), but I haven't yet inspected it in person and it's in the return window. I intentionally purchased a strong blue fluorescent stone because I loved how blue fluorescence makes diamonds sparkle blue in the sunlight. I thought I got the perfect stone, but now I'm a little worried that the light return will be subpar after checking the HCA score. Also, this stone was listed as super ideal cut, which I'm not 100% sure about either given the low crown angle. Am I missing something?

Did I get a good stone? Or should I look for something else?

Unfortunately this isn't a stone I would recommend. BE's "super ideal" grading system isn't actually aligned with what we would consider ideal cut. If you share your budget/desired size/color we can help find something better!

My opinion:
Its a 60/60 style flat top style.
Potentially Bright but not much else going for it.
Vendor ratings have to be taken with a grain of salt unless backed up with proof and data.
Some sites are using the term super-ideal for not the right reasons, they said hey that sounds neat I will call my diamonds that while disrespecting the terms origin and those that support it.
This create confusion and brings them sales from people who may recall hearing someplace that super-ideal is a good thing.

A true super ideal stone will have supporting documentation in the way of scope images for both light performance and optical symmetry.

for the stone 9k budget. >1ct but less than 1.1ct, color D, VS1 or better

That's good to know! I requested the ideal scope images, so hopefully, they can give me those, but also I plan to look at several other stones before "taking delivery"

What's a 60/60 style?

That is a very tight size range--is there a reason for that? If you are trying to fit a specific setting then mm size is what matters, not carat weight.

Also, VS2 in that size should absolutely be eye clean. Is there a specific preference for VS1?

Here are 2 alternatives that I think are better cut (although still not what I would consider super ideal).

My girlfriend has a very small finger (3.5) and I wanted something larger than 1ct just to say it's a 1ct diamond, but not so large it looks too big. I'd actually prefer VVS2+, because even though it's eye clean I know I'll be tempted to look at it through some of my fancy microscopes (a hobby of mine)

Totally understand. Have you asked your GF about her preferences? Is E color ok? Does she like fluor? I think you are going to make things more difficult for yourself with these tight parameters. Most folks would agree that cut is the most important aspect of a diamond, so I would be sure to get the best cut stone you can and not worry as much about the rest.

I can visually see the difference between E and D, crazy I know, but I have a very unique situation with an artificial lens that allows me to see those sorts of differences better than most, probably why I'm so into microscopes. We are very pro-fluorescence. Also, I guess if possible I was hoping to purchase something from BE because we like the settings and wedding rings there too. I can stretch my budget up to 10k

What's a 60/60 style?

A 60/60 style stone has a depth and table both close to 60%.

Brilliant Earth has had numerous negative reviews. I would advise perhaps going with a different vendor with a better reputation.

What do you think of these?

Thank you for the suggestions, really trying to stick with BE if possible for now. What do you think of those diamonds I just shared?

The first, second, and fourth stones look good.

Thank you! Could you please tell me what you are looking at to determine whether those stones look good?

also, what should I look for when deciding between those?

These areas in the current stone and #3 are signs of an unevenly cut pavilion.

If BE can provide ASET images, that's what I would advise to use to narrow them down. Otherwise, I think I like this one a little more than the others.

I requested the ASET images for our top 3 choices, thanks!

So it's the uneven dark triangles in those triangles that you're looking at? but I guess it's fine if the dark triangles are at the base of those larger triangles? It's a problem if they enter the triangle in the middle?

so for example, this diamond would have an unevenly cut pavilion?

Yes, it's the uneven dark triangles between the arrows.

That one looks mostly fine, actually. The green you circled on the right may or may not be an issue. An ASET image would confirm.

interesting! much appreciated! thanks!

I'll circle back once I receive the ASET images for those three stones

This looks beautiful! I think you found a winner!

Awesome! Thanks! Better than the 1.05ct H&A stone (#2) you think? I purchased an ideal scope to bring with me to view my current stone and hopefully view the FIC and 1.05ct H&A stones all together. I’m sure they’ll love me after this haha

I think I like them equally! It's great that you bought an Ideal-Scope. I would choose based on how the Ideal-Scope images turn out.

Thank you for your help and advice! Glad to have some options. Hopefully they can put a hold on these and bring them in in time. My appointment next week so I’ll give an update on how it goes

yes, my appointment is tomorrow! What should I be looking for with the ideal scope? because I see what you mean with the ASET image, but this stone looks great from the ideal scope imo
