i NEED your ideas!

my FI and i have chosen a motif of the following colors-
- chocolate brown
- pale pale pale blue
- pale pale pale gold
and
- ivory

neither of us is into flowers (sort of like the anti-bride) but my FI really wants me to have a "bouquet of sticks" (that''s exactly what he said!) with a big blue flower. i told him i wouldn''t be against including a small bunch of branches on the groomsmen''s boutonnieres, but i had a hard time visualizing myself walking down the aisle lookin like a boy scout that''s ready to start a campfire.

that said, i didn''t want to shoot down his idea, because most of the time, his ideas are fresh and they turn out awesome- but i need to see it for myself. has anyone else seen a bouquet like this? if so, can you post pictures?

very much appreciated! <3 roo

Hmm. Sticks.

I found this picture on google images (bless it) and I thought it looked interesting. What about a sort of "basket" (cone?) of sticks with some blue hydrangea nestled inside?

Ebree, that one looked like the little shop of horrors creature! I think I like the sticks idea, like branches? Maybe like cotton, or other stick-type things?

LOL, I know, right? What is that thing? Feed me, Seymour!

I can see it done with curly willow sticks, maybe some eucalyptos sprayed gold and white/cream flowers mixed in. Hand tied with a blue ribbon?

If you find the right "sticks" I think it would look awesome! How about pussy willows? Agree with Island Dreams that cury willow sticks would be nice... or what about something like wheat? Ive been seeing a lot of table decorations made out of them... will try and find some pics.

third the pussy willow idea with some sort of elegant flower...

will he settle for a bark that has a gold sheen to it?

I LOVE the idea! Probably using pussy willows with a flower would look beautiful.

It''s great to see another alternative bouquet concept. All my bouquets were made by my bridesmaid. They are handmade wire with crystal beads on them. Perfect for me.

im new to this forum- but i''m so happy to post here because everyone''s so supportive and positive. thanks for all the ideas.

but.. uhh.. make sure you turn on your filters when you google image search for pussywillow

that first image was very creative- not exactly what i''m looking for tho. thanks ebree!

found this- but unless it was pretty small/hand held then it might be a little scary.

ooh!

Pussy willow is seasonal, and there''s quite a bit of pollen involved when the puffs open. Neither would be a problem if you can plan ahead -- and chances are that you can find someone who has some growing in their back yard.

Another option is to use branches from trees of bushes from some area that has sentimental value to you and your fiance. Where I live, that might be manzanita or redwood...

Here''s some pictures I found that incorporate branches:

this doesn''t seem to be exactly what you''re looking for, but i thought it was pretty.

Roo...your colors ar fabulous. For the bouquet, I suggest asking a florist what types of material would be interesting. Curly willow like in this pic has an interesting shape. Thin bamboo sticks and flowers is another possibility. Maybe a florist knows of branches or similar material that can be woven in an interesting pattern.

Is this a possibility? (I hope this works)

aww, i''m gonna cry! (first time starting a topic here, i feel so loved and welcomed- and yes, i can get pretty cheesy that way)

anyway-

MINIMS: thanks for the tip. a lot of my family members have very sensitive noses and i wouldn''t want their eyes tearing up for any additional reasons! but it definitely gives me options.

qtie: cute ideas! i was even loving the apples there for a minute but.. um- well we dont have anything else remotely related to apples in the wedding. i dont even really like eating them.

but thanks for the pictures!

novia: i loooove lavender. the smell, the way they look in bunches- so elegant. but i like it more for use in decorating the home. thank you though!

matata: i really liked this one! maybe with some different flowers. thanks!

sluke: i really liked the first one. the brown and the pearly looking things were cool. without the paper though.

here is another

My former roomie just bought some bunches of sticks nearly identical to this one at wal mart (to stick in some neat vases she got for her hearth). You could go there and check it out in person.

I''m curious as to what you have in mind for your big blue flower. What month are you planning for?

haha!

if you couldn''t tell already, my FI and i are completely in the dark when it comes to flowers. so, according to the list under "may wedding flowers" on the 2G roses website, the most appropriate flowers i found would be:

iris

that was all!
i suppose we have to be flexible with the flower color. i kinda liked the stephanotis

Well. there are many varieties of irises, and they do come in a wide variety of colors... do you know any good gardeners? (of course it also depends on where you live)

Don''t some hydrangeas bloom in May?

Hyacinths or wood hyacinths (scillia) might be another option... both come in blue, but they don''t have particularly long stems.

Salvias and veronicas come in lots of shades of blue. They''re not traditional bouquet flowers and I''m not sure how they''d hold up, though. I think lisianthus also comes in blue -- it kind of looks like an informal rose -- but I''m not sure when it blooms, might be later in the summer.

ooh! thanks! i''ll look up pictures. i know a few gardeners, but we also have a lot of nurseries in the area.

the place i work at also works very closely with a florist so i might ask them as well.
