I''m having a hard time sleeping. My boyfriend and I went to look at rings today at a local jeweler and ended up putting money down on a ring. Now I''m having serious doubts about the setting and diamond. The jeweler said we could get our money back if we cancel in time and the setting does not get received. He is ordering the setting from Gabriel & Co. He said he would fax an order after we left. Does anyone know typically how long it would be before a setting would actually be made and sent? They are closed tomorrow so we can''t talk to them tomorrow. They''ll be open on Monday. Or what if Gabriel & Co. makes the setting but has not been sent and we try to cancel. Would the jeweler still be justified in keeping the down payment?

I think I just felt so rushed and pressured today and he was giving us a good deal but, now I wonder if it was in fact a good deal.

Another thing that bothers me is that the stone did not have GIA certificate with it and I was just going by the jeweler''s word who is a GIA gemologist. He said he would type up all the specs for me and I was still planning on getting an independent appraisal but, I don''t want to wait until after we have had the ring for awhile and after an appraisal to find out the diamond wasn''t a good deal after all.

I feel so confused and I''m worried that my bf won''t get his down payment back. If he can''t then I''ll just stick with that jeweler. I just feel like what''s supposed to be a fun event is turning into a stressful one.

I just recently had a ring made. I was told it takes at minimum 3-5 business days to be completed and it took every one of 5 days. I seriously doubt the order would even be placed with the manufacturer until sometime on Monday.
If you show up at the store Monday morning and insist on your money back until you have had some time to think about it more you shouldn''t be too late. Although, I would read the paperwork from your deposit to determine what the terms are. Often times it says statements made by staff do not override the written contract etc.

Lets say worst case scenario you can''t get your money back. Do you like the setting? Or, can you use the money to purchase something else in the store like simple earrings or gold wedding bands? I don''t know how much you put down.

In any event, do not purchase a diamond without an AGL or GIA lab report. Spend some time in the knowledge section learning about diamonds and read some posts in the forums to get a better idea of what you need to know before buying. Before you know it you will be able to make decisions you can sleep with

I totally agree with oat. Just be honest, and tell them you rushed your decision. And don't just go by a jewelers word on a diamond, ever.
