boyfriend to fiance titles..

You know...is it just me, or would it sound perfectly fine to call your fiance ''FI'' (I pronounce it ''fee'').

''Hi, I''d like you to meet my FI.''

Hahaha-TG, that would be completely fine with me, too! Maybe it has something to do with the French sounding pronunciation of fiance? I don''t know. I just HATE saying fiance, but fee would be totally easy for me to say!

I call my guy my boyfriend too, but only because where I live I''ve never heard anyone called fiancé. It doesn''t really mean anything, just that I think it would sound strange. Some people call their husbands ''''chum'''' or ''''copain'''' here which pretty much means boyfriend too, so I don''t think people in Quebec use proper terminology when introducing their significant others,

TG - I always saw FI as pronounced Fii -rhymes with eye...

And really, I never called DH my Fiance cause the word is just so OBNOXIOUS and Yuck. But BF sounded very highschool to me - we bought a house together, have two dogs...he was definitely more than a BF. But Fiance is just so bougie!

Plus, it is three syllables! Boyfriend, Husband, two syllables.

Plus, DH's name is one syllable.

I would however, sometimes call him my betrothed! Heehee.

And for the record, Husband feels totally natural!

I still call my FI my bf because I feel like FI is such a fancy word and i''m not fancy! FI just seems werid coming out of my mouth. Also it is a lot easier to say BF since I have been doing it for 7 years now.

Even I don''t use it that much. I introduce him as my fiancé, but then I just use his name. I''m a young fiancée at 21/22, and none of my friends or classmates are engaged (except for one guy), so it makes my feel a little pretentious. Like ally said, people here use the word for "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" ("chum" and "blonde", YUCK!

) even when they''re married, and that bugs me. There''re very pretty words for husband/wife in French (époux/épouse, mari/femme, conjoint/conjointe) and I''d much rather use those!

Nothin'' against you Frenchies, of course! I''m with chels..it just sounds so *fancy* and silly! It''s like that SNL skit when they''re at an office and they''re ordering lunch and one of them keeps saying "burrito" and "quesadilla" with a perfect Spanish accent but saying everything else with an American accent. Hahaha-I love that skit! I forgot about it until just now...
