Brazilian Gemstones

I''m afraid I don''t know much of anything about colored gemstones, but I am travelling to Sao Paulo for work tomorrow and heard that Brazil has fantastic gemstones. I thought if I picked up some small stones, they could make great bridesmaid gifts.

What is particularly good (and a particularly good deal!) down there? Any suggestions for stores? Any advice on what/what not to look for? I have a preference for green stones (but I doubt I could afford emeralds) because that''s one of my wedding colors....

Brazil is a great source for tourmalines, which are gorgeous and reasonably priced. I like the reds, pinks and greens.
