Ok, ladies, this is kind of embarassing but I know I can share with all of you! I''m really small in the bust area and I''m wearing a strapless dress for my wedding. So I figured I could just have that top portion of the dress taken in to fit perfectly and then I won''t have to worry about it. Well, my seamstress suggested a padded bra might be a better option so I will at least have some curviness on top and the dress will look better--and it will be less costly than to do the alterations. My mother agrees that it might look nice if I had a little bit of something "sticking out" on top! I have a butt so that''s never been my problem, it''s just the top half that is lacking!

So I''m here to ask all of you for recommendations for a decent PADDED strapless bra! Anyone have any experience with this? I just want something comfortable that will stay up and not bug me the whole night, but it also needs to add a bit of "volume"!!! Basically, I need to go up like a whole cup size and I''m an A! Has anyone tried those chicken cutlet things they sell at Victoria''s Secret? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

hmm, what about having padding sewn into your gown? I think I may end up doing that!

Hi Curlygirl:

I will wear a strapless dress also and I have the same problem but the ladies at the bridal store said that cups can be sewn on to the dress to solve the "something sticking out on top" issue without having to worry about a strapless bra sliding down.

I have found that the On Gossamer Mesh Seamless Convertible Bra works for me. They run small and also do not slide down no matter what I''m wearing or doing, even dancing. I got my first one at Nordstrom but after that I''ve ordered them online for less.

Good luck!

Regalada

Not what you asked for but what about having cups sewn in?

OK, never even thought about having the cups sewn in!! I''ll have to check into that! Thank you all so much!!!

My mom uses the Victoria Secret insert things in combination with one of their push up bras and that seems to work well. She is a very small A and I''d say it takes her up to about a B. In any case Victoria Secret bras are the BEST for making your chest look great...although I hate paying $40 a pop for them, but I guess on this special occasion it would be appropriate. Good Luck!

Definatly check into getting them sewn in.

I used the silicone inserts from Frederick''s of Hollywood ($60) and a nice strapless bra I found at Macy''s. I think it was a Maidenform (ill have to check when im at home) but it went down to my waist. I guess it was more of a corset, but it was UBER comfy (had it on for 10+ hours) and i never once worried about it sliding down or me popping out.

I jumped up and down and danced a little jig in the dressing room everytime i tried a bra or my dress on... didnt want surprises at the reception!

I will ALWAYS disagree with anyone who tells you to have cups sewn into your dress. A real bra will ALWAYS look better and more natural. Also, with a padded bra you can always add MORE padding.. like the silicone inserts

My favorite strapless bra is the Victoria''s Secret Body by Victorias Strapless. It is padded, but not a TON, I wear it for everyday stuff.. For my best friends wedding I had an empire waist type dress and it fit me everywhere but the boobs, so I got the silicone insert things.. which they do sell at VS, but I didn''t buy them there. I got them from amerimark.com for about half the price. I stuck those in the strapless bra, and even though they didn''t quite fit in the bra, they totally did the trick.. :)

I am probably going to use those for my wedding too.. except I have a control slip with a built in bra that I''m using instead of a plain old strapless bra.

My one friend who is getting married in April is using the silicone inserts with a corset.. and she showed me the pictures from her fitting and I was extremely impressed with the chest it gave her!

One more suggestion.. if you REALLY can''t find a strapless bra you like..a lot of girls on theknot.com swear by the NU-Bra which is a self-adhesive silicone bra.. It will add less to you than the inserts will, but the idea is that it clips together in the center, so it still gives some lift. Some girls I know swear by wearing that AND a regular padded strapless bra so that it gives them super cleavage.. but that I have not tried yet, because I haven''t been willing to spend the $60 for one.

I wore bra cups sewn in...they looked great and were comfy. I also had a corset style bodice, with boning..and I am very small chested so they cups were there only to add shape. When I wore even a "good" bra with my dress it looked the same but was more uncomfortable....I wore my "Mrs. Kelly" boy shorts under my dress and nothing else....I was comfy all day long!!!!

This is the strapless bra i wore. I found the more traditional ones didnt want to stay up with the silicone inserts in them, mine was VERY secure but VERY comfy at the same time. It also had a great feel too it, nice and soft.

Im an A cup, but i bumped it up to a C cup with the inserts. Here are pictures of me without the bra when i bought my dress and with the bra and inserts on my wedding day (there is a better one somewhere, but not here at work). It was nice to have cleavage for a day!

I have the nu bra, but I have the lightweight version and it was less than $40. I call it my "sticky boobs" and I love it. I''m a C so I don''t need to look any bigger so its perfect for me. It stays in place and I don''t have to worry about it all, like I do my regular strapless bras, which I haven''t worn since I got my sticky boobs.

NJC,

Love your picture.

NJC, you look beautiful!!! Love the "enhancements", nobody would ever know they're not real!!!

Thank you all so much for the advice! I think my first step will be to find a great bra and then meet with the person who's doing my alterations to see if they think it would be better to sew the cups in. I've heard of that nu-bra thing but the looks of it just freaked me out!! But hearing that it works so well, I might have to try that too! I"ll buy anything as long as I can return it if it doesn't work!

Ugh, all these details to think about but with 2 months to go and everything else pretty much done, I figure now it's all about ME and how I look!!

I have a before and after too. Its not in the same dress, as I never thought to take pics of me in my bridesmaid dress before my friends wedding.. but I think you can see a BIIIIG difference..especially since i"m pretty sure I MUST have been wearing a push up bra in the before picture too..

I kind of did it backward. the "After" is on the left.. the blue dress. the before is the black dress. but I think thats obvious. :)

HOLY MOLY!!!! MelissaSue, that is just incredible!!!! Oh wow, I am really impressed. It''s a HUGE difference (haha) but soooo natural looking. If I can achieve that look, I''ll be thrilled. WOW!!!

Oh I so need to bookmark this string for future reference!!

Melissa Sue--wow, I''m inspired, whatever you did, I''m doing it too!!

the sticky boob nu-bra is awesome~~~

the only thing is that i wore it so much it lost some stickyness. i ended up getting another. so now i have 2.

details here

And I got my inserts from www.amerimark.com I want to say that someone here recommended that website to me. They look like this

The similar ones at Victoria''s Secret are $48, but amerimark.com has them for $19.99. They AREN''T identical.. they feel a little harder and the VS ones have a cloth backing that these don''t. but obviously. they do the trick.. Here is the LiNK to them..

(Off Topic)

MS!
Good luck at your new job! I know it''s hard leaving your dad''s place. I''ll be thinking about you.
AND your breasts look fantastic (LOL!!!!)

Wow, all of you ladies look fantastic! What great enhancements! (of course, the before pics look lovely too...

) Now you guys have me wanting some cleavage too!

My dress has the corset back & offers plenty of support so I don''t really need to wear a bra, but the thought of a little more curviness up top is nice.

Do you think the sticky boob bra (hee hee) would be really uncomfortable & hot for a beach wedding? I wouldn''t want them sliding off w/ sweat. Ick.

Another question about that--does it hurt when you take it off?

Curlygirl, how nice to be able to focus on the fun attire details now! I''m sure you''ll look stunning!

MS, good luck w/ your new job! You looked amazing in that blue dress!

brightspot= they don''t hurt to take off- surprisingly.
i''ve never had a problem with them slidding off. your dress will probably help with their placement too.

the Body by Victoria convertible strapless is my Holy Grail strapless too!!! I LOVE that thing! Expensive, but soooooooo worth it for the shape and comfort level. I am an A cup and all other strapless either slide down or have those weird pointy cups (WTF is up with that?!?!) or the boning digs into my sternum and hurts like crazy. love love love that bra. i go clubbing with it and dance ALL night and that thing doesn''t slide. i ve had mine for 2-3 years if not more and they''ve kept their shape and non-slidy-ness. if you wait, they often have sales where is you try the bra on, you get $5 off. It''s still $33, but a very very good investment!!!

lol...your before and after pictures have inspired me MS....i just bought your chicken cutlets!!!! at 20 bucks a pop, they were worth giving a whirl!!!!

GingerB''s post could have been mine. I am an A too and swear by that bra! It is the only one I have found that gives so much enhancement, does not move around AT ALL, does not leave a wire mark in my sternum, and is very comfortable. Like her, I have also had mine for years and it is still in great shape after many formal events and nights out on the town. I plan on wearing mine under my dress. But I am definitely intrigued by those inserts! I think if I added those to my VS strapless, I''d feel like a whole new woman!

Same thing here and I would never do that (stitch padded bra). Tried and failed hideously (and publicly) with some summer dress I really wanted to wear but never fit in off the rack as usual. Unless the dress has some strategically placed detail (folds work best!) or fits very tight (e.g. a corset) it feels odd and looks even more odd.

The alterations are most often extremely simple (nothing to cut, just double a stitch or take in the sides if there is embroidery on the front. ... Speaking from user''s experience.

Forget embarrassment (says me sinking in...

Okay, I have a question about logistics:

If I go with the "chicken cutlets" and a strapless bra, do I get the bra in my usual size, or do I go up a size (or two)?

Here''s a link to the strapless I wore...it''s already padded and it added a whole cup size to my dress. My bodice had boning in it and fit up until two weeks before the wedding when I lost about 10 pounds due to stress and having a horrible cold! It worked like a charm and stayed up all day long. Plus I think it was under $40. http://www.designerintimates.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=1117

i go up a size to add inserts. but that''s me. can you wear the stickies and go and try the bra on?

Thanks, jcrow. I might have to order them. Do you think it''s best to stick w/ the brand name Nu-Bras? I found a knock-off here at BrideSave for less than $30. (The nubras are closer to $60)
