When D and I were planning our wedding we used to get a kick out of all the bridal shows (namely Bridezillas and Platinum Weddings). I haven''t really watched any "bridal TV" since the wedding, but I''ve been sick for the past couple of days, which means I haven''t been able to do much but lie on the sofa and watch bad TV. I caught an old Bridezillas marathon yesterday and I realized what I really wanted is a BRIDEZILLAS UPDATE!

Because I''m guessing that about 75% of couples who get married on one of these hokey wedding reality shows gets divorced within a couple of years. It''s too bad they don''t have updates on these couples!

I''m right there with you, NEL. I would LOVE to see these couple one year later, or even one MONTH later.

I haven''t watched Bridezillas for a few months, but the bride that sticks out in my mind was a young woman who said they were only inviting people with money so they could maximize their haul on presents. It was so disgusting. (I was excited for her when she got her diamond wedding band in the mail, though, and it was so disappointing that they didn''t show it!) Her fiance was pretty complacent, but they did a lot of swearing at each other. It was very sad.

I wouldn''t wish for any of these couples to break up or anything, it''s just that their behavior baffles the mind.

I haven''t watched those particular shows but I''ve caught snippits of shows that are similar. Are they real or are they scripted? The way some of the brides act, I can''t imagine ANYONE wanting to marry them!

Oooo, haven, i know just who you''re talking about. I distinctly remember her bridesmaid bailing out during the bachelorette party (because she couldn''t deal with the bride anymore) and the bride saying "I win in life!! I win with a 2 carat solitaire engagement ring and a 2.5 carat wedding band!"

I honestly wasn''t even annoyed at how obnoxious she was, I just felt really bad for her since she obviously suffers from terrible self esteem issues. I got the impression that she was one of those girls who thought "obnoxious" was synomous with "cute". I''m sure all of her guests were really happy to hear they were invited for their potential gifts :)

I realize that she and her fiance had a child together, but seriously, there is no way a relationship can survive like that. I''d love an update on that couple.

This show fascinates me. I was a bit under the weather this afternoon and caught an episode (a gay marriage with and a 26 year old divorce w/ 3 kids who was marrying a 19 year old 6 months after they met); I was stunned. Wedding planning was such an enjoyable experience for me, I can''t imagine being so angry, bitter, self-indulged, etc. So sad.

I caught a marathon over Thanksgiving...did anyone see the one where the family broke out in a screaming match in the church during the rehearsal? DH and I were pretty disturbed by it. I had season 1 on DVD which was taaaaaaaaaame compared the newer seasons (I actually really liked Antonella).

Cellososweet, thanks for the link! When I saw it I thought "you mean only 8 of them have made it to their first anniversary?" but then I saw it was only from season 3. KimberlyH, I saw that one today, too. I''d never seen it before. I couldn''t believe the bride was making her 19-year-old fiance pay over $20,000 for a wedding! I think she could use some parenting classes, too.

Oh well!

I love that programme. They had it on tv for a while over here but it hasn''t been on in ages. Thanks for that link cello!! I wish that they''d show it again!

I was floored that she allowed him to cash in his trust fund. Oh, and that she freely admitted that she cried so that he would give her money! She was so classless and I felt so bad for those kids.

I want to know what happened with Anita... the lady whose groom didn''t show up until the day AFTER the wedding and she married him ANYWAY. I notice they don''t give an update on her. I felt so bad for her family who were actually trying to support her and help her but she couldn''t recognize it.

Oh my God! Now I''ve heard it all! She married him???

These shows are like a train wreck; you know its going to be bloody and messy, but you can''t turn away! All though there was one "My Big Fat Fabulous Wedding" (?) that had a NJ couple planning an absolutely ridiculously expensive wedding that I found so completely offensive I had to turn it off. Her husband-to-be had cheated on her twice (that she knew of!) in the five years they had been together. Maybe she was getting even with him by spending all his money on the wedding!

Then the other show that sticks in my mind from "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" was a NY couple who rented a loft space, bought the Vera Wang, rented the $30,000 for one day jewelry, etc. and his checks started bouncing all over town. The planner didn''t want the bride to know, because she was just too fragile! "She" was a 30-something Jewish American Princess* who had to have a breakdown every 5 minutes and "needed her mommie!" Yes, I''m quoting her. Wonder if she''s finally figured out that she didn''t marry a rich Prince Charming after all!

* I mean no offense to anyone here who might be Jewish. I''m merely using this moniker to emphasize the girl''s attitude and behavior as defined by a pop culture reference.

I couldn''t believe she married him, either. In the post-interview Anita said that he came back saying that "her family was too stressful" and "he just wanted the day to be about them". I would have punched him in the face. Instead, she married him. I think they went to Vegas--they actually showed the ceremony.

I never saw My Big Fat Fabulous Wedding or Whose Wedding Is It Anyway (I heard some episodes of the latter are good), but the ones you mention sound hilarious in a thank-jeebus-that''s-not-my-life way. The idea of an obnoxious "princess"-type woman marrying a man who is writing bad checks all over town sersiouly makes me chuckle. What a great way to start a marriage!

Propose or Die was on our tv''s today

. Oh wow-how do people actually go on those shows

What I thought was really awful is that the wedding planner paid 30 grand OUT OF HER OWN POCKET for everything when his checks starting bouncing just so her bride wouldn't lose out on her dream wedding because she was just that fragile.
So the wedding planner approaches the groom at the reception because she's pi$$ed that she hasn't been paid back yet and makes him pay her right then and there. He then accuses her of ruining his wedding. Well if he'd had a wedding he could afford in the first problem, she wouldn't have had to do that, now would she? I made my BF watch that with me, and he just started laughing at the bride because at one particular time she couldn't stop b*+ching about how she couldn't see her wedding dress because everyone else was looking at it, and she just wanted everything to be perfect and on and on and on. And my dear BF looks at me and says, "You're not going to be like that right?!" so I started giggling and reassured him that I wouldn't. But she was SOBBING

and crying for her mom-just like Holly said. She is the most pathetic person I have ever seen on a reality show. And that's saying a lot because I've watched everything from Paradise Hotel to I Love New York. Ahhh...the life of a student.

ETA: On the My big fat Fabulous Wedding show-she did mention that she was making him pay through the nose as some kind of revenge, but I don't remember the motive. I do remember her flowers costing.. I think it was over 100 grand? Insanity.

OMG!! That''s great - I watched the episodes with that couple with my jaw on the floor! I simply couldn''t turn away...some people are amazing with their obvious superficial feelings, self-esteem issues and poor grasp on life. I feel bad for them, yes, but I almost wish those men would smarten up and get out before the wedding!

Terrible, terrible, terrible. After seeing those shows I have learned that not everyone really just wants to enjoy being engaged and the process of planning. And the money they spend!!! ARGH!!! On just one day...! I don''t mean to offend anyone on here who may have the funds to spend on an expensive wedding - but seriously, it doesn''t take $50,000 to enjoy your wedding day.

I would love for them to shoot an update show. Most of the brides are extremely obnoxious and I wonder how long it takes their husbands to get fed up with all the extreme bitching.

Does anyone else think that the level of obnoxiousness shot up 10 times from season 1 to season 2? It''s as if the brides are competing to be the biggest bridezilla.

Haha! I saw two today, since I was home while the HEAT/AC contractor was at the house; the WE channels "Big Fat Fabulous Wedding", where two episodes back to back featured weddings over $500,000.00 Geez. Us. Do they not realize that $500K is a half-mill??? And that would be a fabulous downpayment on a house in the most expensive neighborhoods in the US??? Or a really wonderful house in most of the rest of the US??? Or it would be a hell of a start on a retirement nest egg??? Or maybe a good start on an Ivy League educations for any children they might have??? No way, Jose; they want that one fabulous day to remember for the rest of their lives, even after the marriage falls apart and they can''t stand the sight of one another!

You''ve got to wonder what the show''s ''behind the scenes'' people think of these nitwits.

I''m so glad other people are addicted to this show! I can''t help it!

Some of these brides blow my mind...do they not realize they are on tv and all the bad stuff they are saying about their FIL''s, fiances..etc are going to be heard and seen!?
I always wonder how they feel when they watch the show themselves.

Is there another season starting anytime soon?
