i'm late but sign me up as one who agrees that people should have to be pre-approved or licensed or something for breeding!! there are so many people out there who have kids for the absolute worst reasons or are in the absolute wrong situation to bring a child into the world. there are so many times when we are out and we see a family with a gaggle of horribly behaved children just running amok, and greg will look at me and say 'their genes are winning.'.
at times i think well are our genes really any better? however, then i think...well the reason we don't have kids yet (or might not at all) is because we really do want to be sure we can have the best situation for the child and set ourselves up for hopeful success as parents. why don't more people put some serious thought into it? it's a kid people...not a doll you can just toss back into the toybox when you are bored. you hear that miss TG? don't be dropping the Ttot off at our house while you go gallavanting around the bayarea when you come visit. cuz yanno, we charge A LOT for babysitting!portia makes a great nanny.
As for tossing TTot into the toybox...funny you should mention that. When we bought our new car in August, my mustang was still in the shop from the DD accident. TGuy thought we should sell the mustang. I told him that we wouldn't get much for it, and it would make sense to have two cars I could drive (at the time he was still employed and we had the company truck which I was not allowed to drive.) The reason being what if I needed to go to a meeting and he had to watch the kid or something? If I took the big car with the carseat, he'd be stuck at home because you can't drive TTot in a truck when they are that little.
The real motive was my getaway...if I wanted to hang out with a friend, I needed to leave him with a driveable TTot car! 8 weeks into my pregnancy and I hadn't given a thought to anything except my escape route...
Yes, I'm terrible. But at least I'm honest.
And re: babysitting: Mara...c'mon. You'll need the practice because you're going to get preggo before you know it...because when I visit in a month I'm going to rub my preggo cooties on you. Be very afraid and enjoy the limited time you have with Greg and Portia sans mini-Mara.
