Burmese ruby: healed fracture

Is that out in the sunshine or in the shade with sunlight?

Mine in the shade on a sunny day

Out in the sunshine

Direct sunshine. Yours do seem to have better fluorescence than mine, is it unheated Burmese?

Just a few photos in the morning sunlight this morning, what do you think about fluorescence, any at all?

I am sorry to say that it looks dark and lifeless. Not what you want in a ruby. The price is not outrageous for a ruby, but let ask you this: would you pay the same amount if it were a garnet? Probably not, but that’s what it looks like.

I think you can do better with your money, but you may need to be patient.

Thanks for the candour. Mind you, can’t figure out how to get good reflection and colour across the face on the photos…

gemstone photogrpahy is notoriously difficult, but some basic advice would be to not have the phone/camera directly in front of the stone. This not only obstructs light but also creates reflections (right term?) of the device in the stone - often these devices are black, so the reflections are black. To prevent this, and maybe youve already tried this, but you can move the cam around until you hit a sweetspot where it shows the stone most accurately. This is only based on my experiencing photographing gems at a very, very, VERY primitive level. You could also use a filter or other editing (adjusting saturation for example) which you feel shows the stone more accurately. Finally, you can try find images of stones that look similar and judgement could be based on that.

You've said you love the stone, and others have commented that the price was fair but not bargain. You seem pretty happy with it, except for it not being praised here. Point being, validation from us very fussy PSers might not be very helpful

Thank you. Yeah I am a bit of people-pleaser and it probably shone through here. I committed to keeping it, guess it’s stuck with me into the future. But putting it through the “shark pit” here at least sort of validated the view for keeping it, that it’s at least not a huge rip-off. Probably will put up a Mogok sapphire in near future for an evaluation in the pit lolz

I’ve given up on trying to take a better photo in the hopes of ascertaining if it has any of the “Burmese” fluorescence for now, maybe lack of it was why it was priced comparatively low among the AJS catalog. :p

for the sake of discussion/future readers... the first video in this post is a Moz ruby showcasing fluorescence under sunlight. I think some people here bought from this seller and said the videos/images were accurate. I assume the daylight fluorescence video shows the phenomenon it at its very best.

I think its a beautiful stone and sure you'll enjoy it.
Looking forward to reading about your sapphire journey.

Just tweaked some of photos thus far, nothing but vivid filter…still not as good as your skill but somewhat better maybe.

Early stages but what an Australian vendor offered thus far, supposedly Mogok unheated, Royal blue, 1.85ct. Thought it’s on lighter side of Royal blue and that’s probably good given it will darken a bit after setting. They say clarity is VS-SI, but I can’t perceive any obvious inclusion, not that I’m complaining about if inclusions are not obvious! 9DD0C34B-A87B-4723-97F5-17218B548480.jpeg

I don't think it looks like a garnet. Red garnets black out under direct sunlight. You'd see more extinction with garnets. This one is just not pink fluorescent.

@Sydneyphoenix I caution against that blue sapphire in your other thread. Especially if you are buying on a payment plan.

To clarify the image I posted is a screenshot from a video of a stone sold from a seller called Sereeni gemstones. It it's a Mozambique ruby under sunlight showing some fluorescence. So, no skill on my part was involved other than screenshotting and cropping :). And I can't say how accurate it is, just basing off the fact that others have commented their representations are accurate.
Your ruby looks much better with the saturation edit - if that's more or less what you see IRL it's beautiful!

Thanks for a vote of confidence on ruby. Payment plan idea is dead, shouldn't even have mentioned it...
