I feel bad saying this but will. Your fiance lost a 40,000 ring in Mexico. She now wants a 10 carat ring from you.
Sir, I fear for you. Please take care.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of - she already lost a 5 ct ring and is insisting on another diamond that's even bigger? And, you two don't even live in the same country? I'm on the floor laughing this is so funny! Thanks for my daily funny!
Peace.

This.
Are you 100% sure you're not being taken for a ride? Or perhaps more appropriately - are you 137% sure?

One of Sharon's picks is out of my price range. The second, on 1stdibs.com, being http://jewelry.1stdibs.com/makeoffer.php?id=40137,,,,, is apparently for sale by a jeweler. I note the asking price is $110,000 and you can either buy direct from the jeweler, OR you can submit an offer through 1stdibs, and they will "negotiate the purchase price". And a 20% buyer's premium will be added to the final sales price. The asking price is $110,000. The ring is in Boston and I'm in Texas. Any thoughts as to how you'd approach this if you weren't a diamond expert? Ideally maybe get the fiancee to take a look at it in person, get an appraiser in Boston to go by the store, then make an offer?
OK, please be forewarned that the rest of this message has very little entertainment value, asks no questions, and otherwise has no redeeming social value. It's not really worth reading. But people have been so kind here that I feel compelled to respond to a couple of questions. In Mexico, people go to places like Sears to pay invoices like their utility bills. It's not so common to put a check in the mail, like we do here, I guess because people don't have confidence in the postal service. So anyway I happened to be with the fiancee when she went into Sears to pay her cable bill. She comes out, gets in the car and off we go. About 15 minutes later, she starts freaking out. She had lost her ring. It was never sized correctly, and was a lot larger than her finger, and it came off while she was at Sears. She goes back and talks to everyone at Sears. She, her brother and I literally spend a couple of hours looking through the parking garage. We post some posters with a reward. Someone in Guadalajara is now the proud new owner of her Tiffany ring. After 8 years of dating I know her well enough to know this wasn't a scam. The point about wanting a larger ring after she lost the first is valid though. She hasn't been pleading or begging, but may have been using very advanced and subtle psychological techniques when she took me to Graf's.
