Buying Moissanite from Tianyu Gems

I agree the MoCo OECs look different from Tianyu’s. I would be very surprised to hear if Tianyu cut their stones. I had a MoCo OEC that I returned. I just got one from Tianyu, and IMO, it is a lot more crisp and sparkly. Here are two comparison photos. Top is Tianyu, bottom MoCo. The photos aren’t perfect (bottom is a bit blurry) but you can definitely see that the petals are much more defined in the Tianyu stone. I also have videos I could share if anyone cares, lol.

This got me thinking. Do you think MoCo gets their in house moissanite from Tianyu? Obviously not their AGS 000 moissanite, but these ones:

I tried looking for that OEC ring on their website but I didn’t see it. Not to mention MoCo’s OEC looks different from Tianyu’s. Forgive my dumbness, but what did MoCo mean when they said that was their ring? Did they just buy a bulk sample of items from Tianyu?

Thats is beautiful, @bbk0885!

I wanted to share with you that I have come across a new Chinese Instagram account that sells moissanite
https://instagram.com/fioresejewelry25

Some of the stuff looks nice! Anyone heard of it?

I've seen their Instagram name but never tried to contact or purchase from them. If you decide to try them out let us know what you think! I think you might be the first to even name them here.

I’m thinking of having Tianyu do a ring like this. I have two questions:
1) should I go with a H&A for the main stone (probably 8 or 8.5mm) Or OEC?
2) I think pear sides are beautiful in diamonds but have not seen any in moissanite. Does anyone here have any pear moissanite stones from Tianyu? Do they look legit?
Looking forward to your feedback!

I had an oval with pears. I found the moissanite pear side stones to be nicer than the baguettes or trap’s. They don’t have a ton of sparkle but they weren’t completely flat. I used .50 pears for mine but the oval was 11x9. I think 1/3 carat on each side would work well for a round H&A or OEC. Tianyu cuts both of those really well. Just make sure you have multiple views of the ring you are trying to design so they can create the CAD for you.

Do you mind sharing how much they were ?

Got the rings in earlier this week, very happy with how they came out. Thank you to those that helped.

These turned out really lovely! I am happy to see that they were able to make the e-ring and band fit so nicely together. Are you happy with the lab sapphire marquise?

I’m wearing my 8.5mm OEC in DEF color. It’s absolutely beautiful but can’t capture the sparkle. It’s so white but gives off rainbow colors when the sun hits it. At first I thought it was too white but I’m loving it today!

Haha how is that possible??

I asked Emily and she said Ella must have made a mistake and she gave me the correct price haha. I had a mini heart attack. I was so confused

I have been pretty disappointed with my experience this time - I specifically asked, from the beginning, to see photos of the stone before setting - but when I followed up with the request, I was told that it was too late and the stone was already with the factory. I find that suspicious. I was also told that the jewelry was started before I approved the CAD. I am frustrated because I chose Tianyu despite the higher prices because I wanted that care at each step.

In any case, the ring I asked for is ready - what do you all think? I asked for a special step cut. I would have liked just a touch more delicacy for the prongs but I can deal - at least they will be stronger. I am more concerned about the stone itself!

I'd love to know what you think! Here's the video:

Oh yes, one of the things I asked for was that I wanted the cutlet to be just visible for easy cleaning (this is before I approved the CAD). Then they told me the ring was almost ready so they couldn't make changes - but I didn't get photos of the ring until 10 days later!

The ring is already being created, can't change the CAD - the stone is already at the factory, can't send you any videos. Is anyone else getting the runaround from them?

For my antique cushion that was 11x10 from SG, I paid $360 but that does not include the setting. With the setting, it would probably be around the $650 mark so I am not sure what is going on with that pricing.

I think this looks great, but I totally understand why you're frustrated! It sounds like a super annlying process!

I agree, I think your ring looks beautiful and the stone turned out fine, but yeah, I would be pretty upset, too. I'm kinda glad I didn't go through with buying the eternity ring. I'm so anal about how I want things done I just don't know if I could handle waiting for responses by my sales rep.

Ella made a mistake with the pricing. Starsgem quoted me $790 for a 9x10 acc in 14k white gold. I have bigger fingers so it takes more gold but that still seemed high. Tianyu quoted me $680 and with the fees it comes to $750. First time starsgem has ever quoted me more than tianyu. Provence quoted me $635 but I don’t really trust their cuts. I’m waiting for a quote back from Mona

This ring is amazing! What are the specs of the stone?

Just keep in mind that Tianyu and SG cut the antique cushion’s very differently. Pick the style you want and make sure you tell them that is what you are after. Tianyu does the pinhole culet and SG does a long, thin culet. They just look very different IRL.

Very true. Do you think tianyu can cut the ACC like starsgem?

I also just have a general question for anyone that knows much more than me. Mona gave me the wrong price at first ($600) and quoted me $1,100 for a replica Rachel ring. I asked her why there was such a significant price difference between hers and starsgem and tianyu. She said my finger is big and needs more gold which I’m aware of. She also said tianyu($765) and Starsgem($800) make rings too light. Does anyone know how a ring would be so much lighter when being made with identical dimensions by two different companies? I’m just trying to understand lol
Edit: Mona is saying it’s impossible to make the ring in my size using 5.2g of gold but starsgem sent me pictures of the final product so idk. Did they have to use more gold and just eat the costs? I’m very confused. Mona sent me a cad she did for chunkyfacetlover with the same ring design, size 4.5 and it uses 4g of gold so how the heck did they make my size 12 halo ring with 5.2g? The plot thickens. I have never been more confused

I want to try and Photoshop them next to each other so I can better understand the difference and remember it when I ask for quotes and info about cut . It looks like pinhole = tiny round hole, and the long thin one = looks like a tiny rectangle?

I hope bfelix doesn’t mind if I repost her pic but it is a good comparison. She has the Tianyu ACC (pinhole) next to an ACC diamond (top). You can see how different the cut looks if you blow it up. Normally I see this with the square version and not the elongated version but they do the same for both.

Next two pics are of an elongated version of the ACC and a squarer version of the ACC that I had cut to look like the elongated version.

I was trying to help someone on Reddit get the long, thin culet from Tianyu but they still did the pinhole culet so I am not sure what you will get. They were willing to try to cut it again but I am haven’t seen the recut yet.

Regarding the gold differences - I see some jewelers refer to these rings we are getting made as ‘feather weight’ rings, which I can only think it means that they are not solid all the way through. I have always made my rings pretty hefty, which is not the norm as most people want dainty rings. I went back and looked at the gram weight of my rings from the CAD’s from Tianyu & SG. Most are platinum but 2 were gold, with the dimensions being about the same. The Tianyu rings are around 6 grams and the SG CAD’s are between 8-9 grams for a size 8 finger, which is bigger than average. My Tianyu rings were solitaires so I would expect them to be a little lighter but I have to say the SG rings were very solid. As solid as any ring I might have had made by a US seller. I think you have to ask with the gold price, what the width and thickness dimensions are so that you know you are getting quoted appropriately. The Rachel ring is not overly complex, so it shouldn’t be so difficult to figure out. I got a copy of luckyrabbit’s Rachel ring and she is size 7 with a 7gram gold weight just for reference:
