What do you think? Some say it's too much and reminds them of a mother ring, others say it's different and has a unique touch.....

For yourself or for someone else? If for yourself and you love them, well great! If for someone else who hasn't specifically requested it, then I would strongly recommend not getting one. It is best to go with something classic and timeless rather than a style that might be disliked.

Someone else.

Hahahaha... I was gonna get one, but her friend said no way. Then, my gf was was commenting on a bypass ring and how she thought it was nice since it was different....Decisions.....I am leaning toward no, but that may change tomorrow!

I have a PC diamond bypass ring and really like it. It is very different. I think if it appeals to you, you will enjoy it.

I have a bypass rhr, and it's fairly small, and looks NOTHING like a mother's ring.

What is a By Pass ring?

If you have one, can you post pics.....

I am trying to get one custom designed as an engagemnt ring.

It between a by pass style channel setting or a striaght tapered style channel setting.

the ones i have found are a little too curvy....

If you were to go with a bypass ER for your girlfriend, would a wedding band fit with it (assuming a wedding band would be worn)? Many of the bypass rings I have seen are styled in a way that would make it difficult to wear with a wedding band, and maybe you'd have to have one custom-made? And as bypass rings are fairly unusual for an ER, I would make sure when your GF says she likes them, that she is liking them as an ER and not as a casual-wear ring. Good luck!

Mark Morrell makes one of the most beautiful and graceful bypass rings (in my opinion).

I think a bypass ring could make a lovely ER, if you are looking for something alittle more unique. I happen to love unique :)

I own a square step cut diamond bypass ring and absolutely adore it! The stones are channel set and the ring is not very curvy-there are pics of it in the SMTB emerald/asscher page. I can't post them from my phone, but can try and do so later if you would like.

Good luck with your decision, I have seen some gorgeous examples of art deco diamond bypass rings and would most certainly wear one as my ER!

What you mean by pass ring? Is it a real ring that can be wear in my finger?

Yes, it's a real style of ring where the ends of the shank don't meet in the middle, they "bypass" each other. Here's TL's bypass ring from the Colored Stones thread (I think it's an interesting look): https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/trillion-mahenge-and-violet-spinel-bypass-ring.155872/

Well, you shouldn't listen to what "others" think. Have you asked your GF to see if she likes that style? It's a bit uncommon especially for an eng. ring, so you wanna be sure before having something designed.

Gibson, mine is not an engagement style, just a fun little rhr I wear on my middle finger, but here it is!

My mother wears a 1 carat marquise in a bypass style ring. I think it's ugly, myself, because it reminds me of the 1980s and not in a good way. However, she says it's her favorite in her rather impressive (IMHO) collection.

OK-here are some pics: 3+ct, F color, square step cuts set in Plat. Sorry the hand shot is so terrible! I wear this on my RH middle finger because I haven't wanted to get it resized yet.

That is a pretty good point....

I was thinking of putting her birthstones and diamonds in a channel setting and having them alternate. But as I thought about it more, it seemed awkward to do that on a bypass style ring for an engagement purpose. I felt like it kind of lost it's classic luster of an engagement ring. I do not know, maybe it's just me. I still have time to decide. However, I went to a custom jeweler...they quoted me $4500 to make a bypass ring. I was like, wow, that is the price of my diamond.

I definitely agree. You really want to make sure that she wants a bypass style ring before you choose one for her engagement ring. It is definitely a unique style, and one that I don't think every woman would love.
