This stone was bought in 2010 or so. Too reddish, it seemed. Then my kiddo dropped it on the table and it chipped but successfully- two tiny chips on the opposite sides, no cracks. Was recut.

Now with Joseph Jewelry waiting for me to pay to be made.

They insisted on certifying it saying it was too clean (I guess they thought, synthetic?). It came back as natural (I would never mistrust that vendor) - just very clean.

Anyhow, posting pictures and waiting for it to be done. It should look beautiful - like an uncut crystal in a "cage", I saw it once. SmartSelect_20180825-124734_Chrome.jpg

Any ideas? Changes? It can be done at this step. The original idea was WG setting YG "head" but I think all WG will be better.

I would like to see this all in YG. It's such a pure red that it looks too "cool" in a WG setting. YG would give it some warmth. And I would go for contrasting CS at the corners, not the same red.

@voce thank you for your ideas!

Maybe. I have a feeling that perhaps if it were just gold, yellow "cage" would be better. I like YG. But somehow YG and diamonds move the spectrum towards orange...maybe it is my feeling only. Or maybe I don't like YG with white diamonds.

I had this experience with my red spinel ring. I swear - without the YG head it looked more red. Somehow YG drags out orange in the evening. Again, maybe it is my perception, but it is not red-red. At daytime it is more cherry-red. I don't mind the orange btw because it gleams like hot sun, it gleams more with orange in it, and the color is still gorgeous. (Ferrari-red).

But this stone, the princess cut one, is more pink with some orange, so I think WG will be better. Maybe I am wrong. Time and wear will show.

(I even tried pink gold CAD - meh... )

(BTW, the effects I am trying to explain might have something to do with the light here, in WA. Too many energy-saving bulbs).

As to CS in the corners, there are none currently. It was one of my in-project ideas, but I decided against any stones in the corners.

@Arkteia What you're saying makes sense, it's just the pure red stone in the CAD that made me think YG would be better. The color you're describing doesn't sound to me like what I see in that picture. It could be that your lights are really bluish cancelling out the orange, but I think my confusion could be because the stone in the picture here isn't really your stone, but some software-generated color.

It is software-generated. True color is different. I might be confused myself, btw, as after I made this post, I noticed an interesting thing.

In my house, we have energy-saving bulbs that drag out orange in everything.

Tonight, after I made this post, we went to visit my friend, and she had the same bulbs but in another color, and I made a photo of the ring in my avatar - it came out with no orange. I now think the lamps in my house cancel out the blue, and maybe even some green.

With this princess-cut stone, I have to wait till they make the pendant and make photos.

Looking forward to seeing your pendant! How long do you think it will be?

CAD colour of gemstones, simply put, sucks.

It will be gorgeous! I would have it made in WG without any YG accents

I think the white metal will make the stone "pop" and love the design you have chosen.

2 months they said. How long does it take other people to do the work?

CADS done, now casting and setting the diamonds.

What do people think?

Absolutely. (LED lamps suck, too).

With CADS - you can take a huge red marker and color it very red. Or magenta. Or yellow. Let me put it so - the visual impression of my stone is good enough to invest in a project. I love old Mahenges more, I saw threads about old stones, they are different, but this one is very clean while still having some neon in it.

I think that any color of gold would be gorgeous with the stone. It's really up to you whether you prefer a "cool" or "warm" tone look. If I had a Mahenge spinel, I think rose gold might complement neon pink the best, but then I'd consider how the gold would wear over time, too. White gold is most durable, but needs replating; yellow gold is most maintenance-free but softer. I'll admit that I still don't own any rose gold because 1) I'm new to wearing jewellery and 2) I heard that even sweat can discolour rose gold.

As a pendant, I don’t think durability of the metal makes as much difference.

@Arkteia, Do you have a picture showing an accurate color representation of the stone?

@kindred no I don't. (Odd, right?) It was bought such a long time ago that whatever photos I had already passed into nothingness. And the site that had an accurate representation also does not have photos now, even of old stones. I guess I can stop by Joseph's and ask them to pull it out and make a copy.

Do you usually wear YG or WG? Go with whichever metal you prefer?

I actually find the YG setting nicer but personally I never wear YG so if it’s me I’ll go for WG else it will just sit in my jewelry box never get worn. That’s the case for some of my pearls with YG clasps (yeah just the clasps) so I’m actually thinking of changing them all to WG.

I used to like YG without diamonds. I don't like the contrast of YG and white diamonds. I have seen too much of it. So currently, it is, either YG with yellow or pink melee, or pink gold with yellow or pink melee, and WG with white diamonds. Without diamonds, just gold alone, I would prefer yellow.

Yeah, I agree with you. Diamonds look much classier with white gold. I think YG with pink melee would be divine! I wouldn't go for YG with yellow melee or RG with pink melee; contrast makes CS pop.

I think diamonds will add more glamour to the piece, since you only like white diamonds in white gold I vote for white gold.
