Calling all European Idealscope Owners

Hi!

I live in Europe and until I joined PS I had never heard of an idealscope. I was wondering if these are known in jewellery stores in Europe? I am thinking of purchasing an idealscope but am just afraid in case the jewellers will be offended. Ok maybe offended is the wrong word. I read a thread before about a PS''er from Dublin who started looking for rings but the SA''s never heard of the IS. Has anyone here purchased an IS and brought it to stores to view diamonds? If so, what was the reaction of the jeweller?

RHL are you looking to buy a diamond? I would love to know if you buy a idealscope which one/set you choose and then how was the reaction in the jewellers when you used it!!
Lorelei I am very tempted to buy an idealscope set and would appreciate which one you would suggest. I am not looking to buy at the moment( I wrote that in case my darling husband reads this post lol) but purely for the enjoyment of veiwing my existing stones.

So glad you like us!!!

What I would suggest is to purchase an ASET scope like this one. Not only does it show leakage if applicable but also the light return of a diamond and it is also useful for fancy shapes. So for a good all rounder I would suggest this one.

Thank you. I meant I am not buying anymore diamonds ( just now, he he) but the idealscope is being purchased this week!! I will buy the one you suggested.
RHL, when you get a chance I would love to know what your intentions are regarding the idealscope and diamond purchases. I am personally on a diamond buying ban
( I got an eternity ring upgrade as well as a diamond bracelet for my 40th birthday in 2009, so it might last a while) and I am therefore enjoying the thrill and excitement of everyone else''s diamond searches/purchases on PS instead. It is surprisingly fun and obviously much cheaper!!!!

Susan- I know what you mean about finding this site addictive!!! Yes, am planning on a purchase in the near future. Boyf told me to start looking

. I am thinking about getting the beginners scope so examine light leakage but haven''t ordered anything yet. We did discuss going to the US for the diamond but if we see a bargain in Europe it will be good to have the IS to hand.

Lorelei - I''m glad to hear that you get positive responses from SA''s. I just thought that some (especially those that don''t know about IS) would be a bit defensive about a customer knowing more than them!!!!

I see you suggested an ASET scope to Susan. Will that work for RB''s also? I have my heart set on a RB but also love the look of a cushion- knowing how indecisive I am I will probably change my mind several times!!!!

How exciting! It is a lovely time. The difference between you and I ( besides many years!) is that you will buy your stone with a wealth of knowledge. I have, as result of my lack of knowledge, had to upgrade (lol). However since finding PS it would seem that whilst I adore my solitaire I really have to bring it up to the expected PS standard!
I wish you every success in your search and look forward to your posts detailing your eventual purchase. I do hope you find your perfect stone soon.
It would be thrilling to me if you did find your stone in Europe as I live in Scotland and would love to see more retailers raising their game to the standards we see in the likes of Good Old Gold, Whiteflash etc etc. I know that Lorelei recommends bestdiamonds and I have also been very impressed by information given by PaulAntwerp so it may be the case that others will follow their lead and the kind of service we see in the USA becomes more commonplace here. Not that I wouldn't purchase from the States, I would, in a heartbeat. I just wish that I had other options especially to view in person without crazy travelling being involved.
Anyway good luck and I looking forward to seeing your ring.
(my diamonds will be posted once technical minded husband gets around to it!!)

It will indeed, ASET works for all shapes and to me is the most versatile tool. Also some jewellers that are interested in cut quality might be more aware of ASET as AGS labs use ASET ray tracing software for their performance based cut grade.

I think you would be fine using a scope in a jewellery store, as with everything a pleasant attitude counts for a lot and you could find as I have the jewellery store staff show a real interest and want to try it out!

Not Lorelei, but yes, you can use ASET for mounted stones, this web link applies to Idealscope, but similar principles apply.

Yes it is possible RHL, you can view through ASET as mounting permits.
