Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Mara, I find myself drinking something like 16-18 glasses of water a day. I am trying not to drink anything else, since the water is what I know is best for me, and so that means I drink a LOT! But I have Culligan man water at work, which is the best kind, so that helps

MP I will be interested to see if that changes for you, because I love water typically and only drink water typically. I did not used to drink sodas, juices, anything with sugar. I would sometimes have black iced tea and green iced tea. But water basically, and a lot of it. But after my nausea came on I could ONLY drink juices and things like lemonade and teas with sugars. I couldn''t drink water at all, it made me sooooo sick. I am finally feeling more like I want to drink water again thank GOD because I was sure I was giving myself GD with all that watered down sugar. I would put water into the teas and the lemonades but still. I haven''t drank this much juice since I was like 5!

I love water. I did drink a lot of it in pregnancy. But because I stayed away from ice tea and sodas and pretty much every gosh darned thing, some days I was like, "GIVE ME ANYTHING BESIDES WATER! ARGGGGGGGGGH!" Ginger ale did me good. I did drink decaf once in awhile just to taste something that was not water. And then I just went straight into espresso since I figure a wee bit of caffeine was better than decaf chemicals.

And yes, I loved juice when I was pregnant but tried to refrain because it always spazzed the kid out.

I''m hoping it doesn''t change for me, Mara! I have a bit of morning sickness - mostly when I wait too long to eat, and my blood sugar drops - but otherwise I''ve felt fine. Granted, I still have at least two more months to reach the end of my first trimester, so that could change. But I really hope not!

I''ve had some Vitamin Water, which is nice to break up the monotony of just plain water all day. Today I had a bit of lemonade, but didn''t care too much for it until it got really watered down from the ice. I''m finding that I actually really like stuff that''s blah and kind of bland. Too much spice, salt, or sugar and I don''t want it.

I was just answering someone's question on another thread and realized this might be helpful to post here as well.

Re: crib sheets...
I would get the ULTIMATE CRIB SHEET to put over your cute sheet. So much easier to change. Trust me on this! I'd get 2 ultimates and 1 or 2 cute sheets and you're set.

Re: bottles...
We use Avent and really like them. If you are planning to BF you won't need much in the way of bottles. If you are using Avent bottles and Medela pump, you can get converters from Drugstore.com that allow you to pump directly into the Avent bottles or Avent storage system. This is a huge timesaver!

AHHH! I just saw that I have 99 days left of being pregnant! I''m in the double digits! How crazy is that--how on earth did the time go by so quickly!

I''ve been an emotional wreck the last two days. I''m on vacation but had to go up to work yesterday to do a report. My husband is on vacation with me. He stayed home playing computer games. I come home like 4 hours later and he hasn''t started dinner. So I start dinner--as I''m cooking the dinner the cats are driving me crazy wanting to eat--which means he didn''t feed them. Before I go to feed them--I remembered that I had laundry going before I left for work. I open the wash thinking that he probably took care of it--because he''d been home the entire day! Nope!! So I slam the wash into the dryer and start the cat food---and of course he wakes from his computer game coma and tries to help. Isn''t he great! So I go straight into the bathroom because I want to cry....It''s just so ridiculous---yesterday he cleaned the entire apartment with me...it''s not like he just lays around doing nothing...but this one time just really got me!!

At this same time--my sister comes out of her room to tell me that she just had to pay our electric bill because she couldn''t afford to pay it the month before and they sent her a warning letter. Ummmmm, you live here rent free (rent is 1350 a month!)--you are responsible for the electric bill and you couldn''t pay it! I ask her if my name is attached to the electric bill--she tells me no, she doesn''t think so. She heads out to close her store--and I go in her room to go on her computer. Next to the computer is the bill. With my name on it! So I text her--so mad because she knows we are planning on buying a house within the next 6 months or so (Waiting on DH''s credit to go up just a bit) so I can''t mess my perfect credit up at all because of his bad credit....and she texts me back this nasty mean text. So that makes me cry.

Seriously---I''m a mess!

I swear, last night I woke up at 1, 3, and 5 on the dot and I didn''t even feel like I had to pee! But I did anyway since I was awake . . . I get the best sleep after DH gets up when I''m "stealing" some extra winks from the day time.

Sorry if this is TMI, but has anyone had light bleeding after intimacy? My friend told me that could happen then or with exams at the doctor''s, but I was just looking for a little reassurance. The sad thing is that my libido has completely gone out the window with pregnancy, even in the 2nd trimester when I read all those reports about how many women experience an increase. But I had steamy dreams several nights in a row so I thought maybe my body was telling me something.

I just talked to a woman at the daycare we hope will work out, but there is a one year waiting list.
8.gif
Who knows they''re going to have an infant one year in advance??? I found another place closer to my school that never has a waiting list and is cheaper, but I''ve really got my heart set on this one place. It''s the only center that takes infants in our neighborhood and it''s got great reviews. The director said I should email her once a month to let her know what''s going on with me because they like to be kept up to date and if they feel connected to me but can''t get in touch with someone else on the waiting list . . . . the strategic part of me was like, ok, I can play nice nice and get on her good graces, but the other part of me was like, really, so this is a popularity contest? She also said that sometimes things change so spots may open up more quickly than anticipated, and she rattled off a list of reasons why various families left (lost job, second baby, moved to Ireland). So she wasn''t kidding about wanting to be kept in the loop!

Tao, sorry to hear about unhelpful DH and irresponsible sister. You are definitely justified in being annoyed . . . that stuff would annoy me even if I weren''t pregnant! Don''t let your sister make you feel bad with her mean text. If she can''t pay one tiny bill every month, then maybe this arrangement just isn''t working out . . .

I just dropped off my registration at the day care center. I wore all my diamonds! I figured it couldn''t hurt.
31.gif
I remembered something else the director said about emailing her once a month . . . she mentioned how this would help me get ahead of people she couldn''t contact and people who were "gruff" and barely responsive. I did meet her briefly, and she was younger/more hip than I expected based on the way she apparently vets all prospective parents. DH figures that the "year waiting list" and $25 registration fee is really just a way for them to tell who''s serious and who isn''t (and who is "acceptable" and who isn''t). I''m hopeful that 5 months turns out to be enough notice after all.

My sister is moving out in September...because it''s a two bedroom apartment and the baby will be here in November.

Too funny about wearing all your diamonds...I bet there isn''t even a waiting list of that long--they probably just say that to sound important, make sure that the parents are serious about bringing their children there and to get the bigger bucks.

On a conference call but wanted to stop quickly...

I PASSED MY THREE HOUR GLUCOSE TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the random pop-in (yet again), but things have been crazy here. I don''t even have time to catch up on everyone, but I did have one quick question.

DH and I went to the Baby Care Basics class at our hospital last night. Most of the stuff they talked about I already knew from research and from talking to other moms. But the one thing they said that I had never heard before was not to use baby wipes for the first month or so. They recommended using just a wet paper towel to wipe your baby''s bum. Now, I have quite a few friends with children under the age of 1, and I had never heard this before. Anybody else ever heard this mentioned?

hi so cal girl, was lurking on this thread and thought i''d respond.

i haven''t heard the reco that baby wipes not be used for the first month, but oddly enough we didn''t use them the first few weeks either. at the hospital the nurses were using these paper towels that they wet in lukewarm water to wipe the baby and they sent us home with a few boxes of them. we used those until they ran out, both for wiping baby''s booty and for giving him a sponge bath before his umbilical cord fell off.

i never thought there might be a reasoning behind using the towels & water other than maybe hospital budget haha...

Tao... I wouldn''t worry too much about the electric bill not being paid one month. I have all my bills on auto pay through my bank on fixed amts and sometimes it takes me 1-2 months to realize that PG&E was like double last month or something (in winter) since I also get eBills and no paper, so I sometimes send extra payments late etc, and have never had a ding from it, my credit is very excellent. Typically I believe utilities don''t report to credit agencies for up to like 3-6 months? But yeah I can see how if you are all stressed out and hormonal that would get you. I hate irresponsibility esp when they don''t take credit for being wrong. At least admit it and don''t make excuses.

Yay Mandarine for passing!! I think I am supposed to take the 1 hour one but when I turned in my screening forms I forgot to tell them I was doing it later and they didn''t notice so now there is no record I am supposed to take it. I don''t really WANT to do it, so I am putting off telling my DR she needs to order me one. HA, bad I know.

MP I really hope you don''t get much nausea, it SUCKS. That is one of the worst things for me (in general)..is stomach ailments. Mine didn''t hit hard until about 8 weeks and then it went to 13. Thank god this week I feel so much better but I still get nausea if I don''t eat regularly and get too hungry.

Thanks for posting that stuff in here TDM... I think I asked about the bottles and crib sheets. :)

Not sure if it''s mandatory--but the glucola wasn''t something I signed up for or asked for. The doctor said I had to take it. I think the norm is around 24 weeks.

Thanks for the words about my sister. I think it was just that being piled up on the stuff with the husband---it all just happened at one time and I''m hormonal and everything.....She forgot to tell me I had mail and that nearly made me cry because it was gifts from family from our wedding! I''m just a hot mess--I''m a million times better today though--I''m sure everyone around me is thankful..lol!

Mandarine
Yay on passing your 3 hrs glucose test.

Mara
Why are they having you do the glucose screening so early? Is there history of diabetes in your family?

MP
Hope you feel better soon. How many weeks are you again?

Talking about the 1 hr glucose screening:
When I was at the lab getting my blood drawn for the 1 st trimester screening for the chromosomal defects, there was a girl doing the 1 hr screening. She was feeling really nauseous from the drink and threw up; I felt so bad for her b/c she looked really sick. Luckily, she was only a few min from the 1 hr and the dr. told the lab to just draw the blood instead of making her come back.

Bottles:
Remember not to buy too many of one brand before the baby gets here, you never know what the baby likes. Same go for diapers b/c M got horrible diaper rash with Huggies.

hmmm..

in my Dr''s practice everyone ahs to do the test (the 1-hour) between 24-28 weeks.

I had to do the 3-hour because I failed the 1 hour

The sugary drink is not bad at all...I thought it was actually kind of tasty, plus it was nice and cold!

Kelley--
Awwww...isn''t he the sweetest!
So cute.
Congrats.

Mandarine, congrats on passing the 3 hours test! I failed the 1 hour and had to do the 3 hour one as well. The drink wasn''t bad. I just hated the wait!

Congrats Kelley and welcome Micah! He''s adorable!

Congrats kelley!!! what a precious little one!!! so cute!

qt, it''s because i will be 35 when i birth...that was the one ''yes'' i checked and one ''yes'' is enough to make them want to screen you for the 1 hour. but no we don''t really have history, i am not overweight and in general very healthy so i am hoping to get out of it. BOO.

Thank you lili, snlee, and puffy! We are all quite smitten with him, including his big sister, Amanda:

Congratulations kelley! Your children are beautiful!

I''m pretty sure you will still have to take the glucola test...you can be of normal weight and healthy and still get gestational diabetes.

I had to take the test at 10 weeks (Family History) and then I had to retake it at the normal 24 week marker.

I agree, I'm pretty sure the glucose testing is done in all pregnancies regardless of age, weight or history.

Mara
I might be wrong, but I don''t think the glucose screening is age related. The screening is not required but recommended; it''s for your and your baby''s safety to know if you has gestational diabetes. The drink is like an orange soda but sweeter. And it''s usually done between 24-28 weeks, so that''s y I was curious about you getting it so early. I know they sometimes do it early for overweight patients, patients with family history of diabetes and multiple moms, but I didn''t think you are not in those categories. I''m just be nosy. =P

Quick pop in-

Congrats KELLEY- what a cutie! And your daughter is adorable.

Whoever asked about diaper wipes- a friend of mine just told me the same thing, aren''t supposed to use the "wet" wipes in the beginning- NO idea why. But BRU has disposable wipes that are dry that I bought- they are BRU brand called Especially for Baby.

Mandarine- Yay for passing the 3 hour.

Be back later, no news here. Mom is in town so been running around doing errands.

Mara, so far my sickness has been light but it seems to be getting worse every day, which is NOT exciting me. I was hoping to skip out on it, but I just feel yucky all the time now, unless I''ve just eaten. And there is some woman that keeps sending paperwork to be drenched in "old lady" perfume - you know the kind, super musky and revolting and sticks to EVERYTHING. It clogs up my nose, makes me cough and worse now, it makes me ill. Greeeeat.

qtiekiki, I am about 5-6 weeks along I think. I haven''t had my first appointment yet - that''s coming up on the 13th. I''m so excited!

kelley1975, BIG CONGRATS on little Micah! He''s gorgeous. And how funny, I''ve been trying to sway my husband into letting us name our baby that if we have a boy. Jealous!

They told us this at my hospital - just to use cotton wool and luke-warm water and if really necessary a bit of olive oil.

I actually took wipes with me - but I bought the Eco-friendly super natural ones - and the hospital said that they were fine. Basically they don't want you using things that are stuffed full of fragrances and chemicals - and since in the UK you have to bring everything with you to the hospital (they provide water but that's about it) it's definitely not about cost.

Cotton wool and bowls of water are a nightmare when you are still trying to work out which way round the nappy goes... just make sure and buy the non-scented wipes that are normal pH and designed for babies.
