Kimberly- Yay for free clothes!Did your doctor tell you a weight to stay under for the entire pregnancy?
Nope, she didn''t give me numbers (but I assume they would be the normal 25-35 lbs), just that I''m gaining a bit too quickly.

I don''t know if they say something to everyone? From what I''ve read, I think it depends on whether or not you are overweight before the pregnancy. My doctor didn''t tell me specifically. I''ve read that the more overweight you are before the pregnancy, the less they want you to gain with the baby.

I guess they will just say something if they think it''s too much at some point.

I would really like to know what range I should be shooting for based on my starting weight.

Good morning girls! I just had to stop by and tell a funny story. So, I was out on my morning walk with the dog and some lawn workers drove past me and whistled (then only saw me from behind), then when they turned and saw my almost 6 months pregnant belly, they all looked shocked/embarrassed. It was hilarious. I laughed so hard....anyway, that''s my funny story of the day. I''m gonna let my hubby know I''ve still got it, haha!

meresal - i think on babycenter.com there is a calculator based on your pre-pregnancy weight

Kimberly, I really wouldn''t worry about the weight gain. Women gain at different rates when they are pregnant. For each of my pregnancies, I gained 10 pounds before my first doctor''s visit. I had gained 10 lbs at 7 weeks. Since then, I have only gained 5 more pounds (at week 22). Some women don''t gain anything at all for the first half of the pregnancy, and then put on most of their weight at the end. I think as long as you are eating pretty healthy and still being active, that is all you really need to focus on. I also could only get down lemonade and sprite for the first few weeks, so I''m sure that contributed, but don''t stress yourself out about the weight.

I''m pretty sure if you start out at a normal weight, docs want you to gain between 25-35 lbs. If you are overweight it is somewhere around 15 lbs, and if you are underweight, it is around 35-45.

Kim, Ditto what Steph said on the weight gain. Everyone gains at diff rates so I wouldn''t be terribly concerned. Just try to stay healthy...but if you can''t stomach something, don''t stress over it.

My Drs told me to gain between 40-50, which was the recommended for twins based on my BMI (normal). They have similar guidelines for singletons, but keep in mind they are just guidelines!. A lot of women go on to have perfectly healthy pregnancies gaining a bit more or a bit less...

Step, that''s so funny about the workers! I had a similar story, where one guy was making a comment and the other guy (who had a view of my belly) said "esta embarazada!!" (She''s pregnant!)...hehe...it was really funny!

Meresal, cute u/s picture!!!! I love how they look like tiny gummy bears in those first ultrasounds!

kimmy, boooo on your dr saying less weight gain. i also could not drink water at all for the first 4 months, it was horrible. i drank a lot of iced tea and other sugary drinks though i tried to keep it lower, but lemonade was a favorite too. i asked my dr about my gain last appt (12 lbs at 20 weeks) and she said that was fine and not to worry. so you don''t seem to be off at all. my dr also told me that what you should gain depends on what you weighed and how healthy you were before. she said it''s not unusual for tiny girls to gain a lot, and larger girls may not gain as much. i think i was kind of ''normal'' for my height etc so she said around 25-35 for me. but the way i figure it is as long as you aren''t eating shakes every day and night and you eat fairly normal or the way you would already...then whatever your body is going to do it''s going to do. i know a fair amt of gals who are small who gained a lot because their bodies just wanted to, they didn''t do much different.

also my girlfriend told me that her dr said you tend to gain more slowly in the late 2nd and early 3rd tri...she has only gained like 2-3 lbs in the last 4-6 weeks. she''s 30 weeks and has gained 18 lbs. anyway i think every person is diff but hopefully my dr doesn''t tell me next time to stop being a carb piggy.
9.gif
i am trying to eat more fruit and yogurt.

Tao... hope you are feeling better!
QT...yeah i am starting to feel the same way on the quinny. just have to make sure it will fit in the A3 if we do decide to get it. but yeah i liked it in person sooo much.
meresal, your US pics are super cute, i love how the nugget is upside down. and there is more room in there than you might think, that is just one view. sometimes it looks like ours was squished but then they''d do a diff angle with the wand and it would show a ton of space. amazing really!

PG...glad to hear the hubs is sticking around more, honestly i always think your hub sounds great...he is always making dinner for you...! hehehe. i am in charge of food around here. also...i was just thinking while reading your post that hopefully your hub understands that after the baby comes he won''t be able to do much of anything in the beginning! it''ll just be baby baby sleep baby baby. mostly baby no sleep haha. so maybe he is trying to get as much done as possible with friends beforehand? it''s good you have veto power at least now, esp towards the end, you prob want extra companionship!

speaking of food and ''after baby''...i was reading online that someone''s doula was recommending that after the baby comes the two parents have different jobs. the mom''s job is to eat, sleep, feed. the dad''s job is to make sure mom eats, sleeps and showers and gets out of the house once a day for 10 minutes without the baby. a bunch of people said this worked well for them. the idea was that mom should not be responsible for feeding herself or making food for others or making any real decisions at first, the husband was ''support'' and mom was the primary. anyway kind of interesting...i like this idea of not having to worry about food HAHA.

steph...you still got it! when i was starting to just look preggo i would go out for walks around the office and there were a few lawn workers who did that too...i was like SERIOUSLY??? so i gave them a dirty look and shook my head no and they just laughed. i hate that, anyway...i came back and told my friend and she was like ''well, it should make you feel good, you are preggo and guys are whistling at you''..OMG. HAHA.

i am still in crib research hell, now i am considering the pottery barn kendall since it''s on sale. and i could always match a dresser to it separately once it arrives. plus i have some PB gift cards so essentially would just have to pay like $200 for it. i am so indecisive on anything related to furniture. darn me not liking my original modern walmart ones in person!

jcrow - i''ll be 21 weeks in a couple of days. love seeing some of the "old guard" around and so excited we''re having babies!

qtiekki - OMG that helmet thing cracked me up! well i think i''ll be laidback about minor spills, but we''ll see whent he time comes. gingerbaby may end up wearing one of those doodads afterall
3.gif

mara - hubby is saying the same thing. he also loves it when later in the eveing i ten to be more bloated from food and look extra preggo. and he snickers gleefully when i have to bend a bit or adjust to give him a kiss to accomadate for belly space
9.gif
and i hear ya about crib research hell. i am smack in midst of it.

drk - glad things are calming down!

meresal - CUTE u/s pics!!

tacori - ur avatar is gorgeous!

steph - that''s hilarious! and i think you''re right about the weight gain parameters.

On the weight gain, it isn''t always under your control. I lost loads in the first tri due to morning sickness, put on a steady gain towards the end of the 2nd and in the 3rd it was just crazy. I put on a total of over 70lbs - over half my normal body weight - and on a normal diet. I lost the whole lot by 5 weeks PP - most in the first 2 weeks (20lbs the first week!
23.gif
). Basically I was retaining water - and even if I had starved myself my weight would have still gone up.

In the UK they take a baseline weight measurement at your first appointment and that is it. I even asked about mine towards the end and they just said, well you''re tall and you look in proportion so don''t worry!

Congrats JCrow!

Drive-by posting!

Congrats Jcrow and welcome if I haven''t already said so :-)

We''re in CA with the three kitties. The movers came on Sunday and were able to pack all of our breakables and get everything on the truck within an hour and a half. I know we had a small move (we sold a lot), but holy cow they were so quick. It was wonderful. We spent our last day in Boston walking around our favorite spots and getting a little misty eyed that we won''t be raising Ethan there. It was on this lovely walk that I started feeling what I think was dubbed as "evil crotch pain" by someone. Man! It''s so irritating.

The flight went well. Almost too well. We were both kind of in awe of how smooth the whole thing went. We had to take our 18 pound cat out of his carry-on crate to go through security. That was terrifying! I was afraid that he was going to run off or claw me to death. He did cling on for dear life, but it was sweet and there weren''t any claws involved. That''s my little fluff-baby. :-) The other two cats went together in cargo. They did really well as well and were so thrilled to see us. We felt so bad for them, but logistically it made more sense for them to be together in cargo because we couldn''t take all three of them in the cabin with us.

Whoever was talking about gaining too quickly, screw ''em. Some people gain a lot in the beginning, some people barely gain an ounce until the middle. It''s a crap shoot. I was up 7 pounds at 16 weeks and then I gained 10 pounds in 4 weeks. And now I haven''t gained anything in the last 4 weeks. It''ll all even out.

Someone was also talking round ligament pain. I had really really bad round ligament pain in the area that if I weren''t pregnant, I would swear was my appendix and would''ve rushed to the ER thinking I had appendicitis. It''s off and on and the easiest way to tell if it''s really something to worry about (and this is just my opinion), is to have something light to eat, get off your feet and lay on the opposite side of the pain (so, lay on your left if the right is hurting) with a pillow under your belly for support. If you rest for a while and it feels ok when you are lying down and resting, it''s probably just stretching/RLP. If it''s still really painful after rest, I''d go in to emergency or to see my doctors ASAP. Sorry if this has already been suggested. As I said, drive by posting. I haven''t had time to actually read everything.

I''ll be on sporadically. Trying to get things settled here and we''re having a ball with my parents. :-)

Congrats Jcrow!

meresal, omg your little one looks just like a teddy bear in that last pic. How cute is that!

On the weight gain, I am considered overweight for my height, and my midwife told me I should only gain about 15 pounds total. It''s kind of sad, I want a big belly, but I may still get it - my stomach bloat is so bad I have stretch marks right above my belly button already, and I look about 5 months pregnant most of the time. I finally had someone ask me at JcPenny the other day when I was due, and I couldn''t decide if I was happy about it or not since I know none of my belly is actually baby lol. They seemed surprised when I said April, because it''s so far away, lol.

I have been sick as a dog for a week now. Last Thursday I ran a fever overnight of 100, and it turned into a head cold after that. I can barely breathe and I''ve been coughing a bit. It''s starting to ease, but it sucks not being able to take anything to stop the itchy nose and watery eyes! I have never missed drugs as much as I do right now lol.

My appointment to try and hear the heartbeat (again) is this Friday, and since I have been so sick I haven''t had any pregnancy symptoms because I am distracted by my runny nose and plugged ears. Not to mention I haven''t gained any weight, still. So last night I had nightmares all night about how I was having "empty uterus syndrome", whatever the heck that is. I took it to mean I am no longer pregnant. So now I am all stressed, even though I know it was just an anxiety dream. I can''t wait to just hear that heartbeat and stop the angst!

mp i definitely feel for you...the hormones and the uncertainty really do mess with your mind. i feel like i am more mentally stable after 19 weeks than i was before, i don''t know why. but i did read that between around 8 weeks and 13 weeks your placenta is working on creating itself to then supply the hormones...until then your ovaries are producing them so i thought it sounded like for a while there might be DUAL hormones going on which maybe explains why i felt way more mentally out of it then. who knows. but i definitely had a lot of nightmares as well...REALLY weird stuff actually. and i don''t typically dream that much or if i do it''s happy stuff or i wouldn''t remember it...but these were vivid and a lot of them had to do with miscarriage, bleeding etc. i would bolt awake totally freaked out and remember it was just a dream. so i remember it really well. i am happy to say for me that most of that went away around 18 weeks and again i just feel so much better and more secure about things. maybe the amnio and those results helped or maybe it''s hormones. but just hang in there...and i hope to god you hear the heartbeat and i hope that if you don''t, you demand an ultrasound!!!! i know some of the care specialists think less is more which is fine, but sometimes you just need to SEE. and it WILL put you more at ease.

drk i am so jelly of you being able to go into a room and sneak a listen or peek to your nugget when you are able. hehee. and i am sure you will be just fine, so just keep thinking positive..!!

i just talked to my coworker for like 30 min about her stokke crib, she adores it and she has a small CA bungalow like ours. they use it as a bassinet and a crib and she loves that it rolls easily through doors so they can take it into diff rooms. GREAT now i am considering a $800 crib with $400 minimum bedding. NO. calgon!

Sorry for the bad dreams MP! I''m sure everything is fine!!. Hope you start feeling well soon!

Mara, Just my opinion...but expensive bedding is so not worth it!. I can see spending more on a crib, although that wasn''t for me either. With bedding though, you will be constantly changing sheets and can''t use the bumper for long (I think). Everything else for the nursery really starts adding up...so think about it!. Again, just my opinion since I went the cheap-o way with the nursery and still love how it turned out!.

oh i know from a rational perspective, Mandarine... trust me i am definitely not wanting to spend a lot on the nursery... i am pretty practical overall. but after 30 min with my coworker i am like YEAH STOKKE. ok back to reality. she did have some good points on why it made sense, esp for our house. i do like the stokke idea but the bedding is MIN $300 pretty much everywhere. so unless i made it myself or something, it''s basically just pigeonholing you into having to spend ridiculous amts. darnit. if the bedding was not so pricey, i might really consider it. why don''t more places make more euro kind of cribs but less money?!?

mara, i just looked up the stokke crib and it definitely looks awesome! probably shouldn''t have looked at it.... haha.

Thanks, Mara. I have been having crazy dreams lately - a lot of nightmares for awhile there, too, which I thought I had grown out of! - but most of them have been happy. I have only had the bad miscarriage dreams since we didn''t get to hear the heartbeat, and it''s awful knowing that I am basically so worried my dreams are manifesting it. I''m going to press for an ultrasound on Friday if they can''t find the heartbeat, because honestly, would it kill my midwife to just give me some dang peace of mind? I love her, she''s so great, but if she tells me no I am going to the ER and lying to them that I am bleeding, I swear. Lol.

It angers me so much when doctors try to limit weight gain during pregnancy for overweight women. That sometimes forces pregnant women to "diet" instead of eating well or eating when hungry out of fear that they''ll gain more than the 15lbs. Very few people gain that little unless they were really sick during the entire pregnancy or have GD (in which case some actually lose weight). I had read in so many books that I was only to gain 15lbs since I was overweight as well but my OB told me to just eat and be happy lol

I would ignore the weight restrictions and just go about it in a healthy way. Always make sure baby is ok (which duh you will!) and just enjoy the pregnancy. Don''t go gaining 40lbs (like I did
20.gif
) but don''t restrict yourself either.

You had a great OB! I honestly don''t want to gain tons of weight - I have heard so many horror stories about gaining tons of weight you just can''t get rid of. But it helps that all I have wanted to eat is veggies! And french fries...but I am trying to limit those lol.

I have a friend that was 85 pounds when she got pregnant with her first son - and she gained 100 freaking pounds! Can you imagine? I think it was good for her in the end, she looks way more healthy now (she was so thin before that, even though she was short, you could see her spine and ribs), but I am going to try my best not to follow by example lol.

Mara, I think $800 on a crib is not as bad as the bedding...only because you can always use it again or sell it later!. Now the bedding, I see what you''re saying....but did you know there are Etsy sellers that make bedding at reasonable prices??

They may be able to make bedding for that style crib at a portion of the price.

My friend had her bedding made for her twin girls...and it turned out AWESOME!. I think she spent like $200 for both sets!

Man, the uterus was acting up this morning. Had a couple hours where the whole thing would tighten up 3 times strongly, plus another couple mild mostly-lower-uterus ones. Seems to be a little better after lunch. At least I''ll be able to take a peek and reassure myself tomorrow sometime during my relaxing day in the dental room. Since I''m still on the vaginal progesterone three times a day, I can at least feel that my cervix still feels pretty much the same from the outside. Hope it''s holding up inside too!

Regarding the weight gain, I just wanted to mention that it''s better to watch it during the pregnancy, because it can be SO HARD to take off afterwards. I was a healthy weight when I got pregnant with my first baby, and gained 35 pounds. After the birth, I was already down 15, and lost the last 20 by the time the baby was 7 months old, but I was working out 5 days a week and doing weight watchers - so it definitely did not just melt off by itself.

My best friend, who started her pregnancy at the same height and weight as I, gained 70 pounds with her pregnancy. She lost about 40 pounds within a few months after the baby was born, but is still 30 pounds overweight now, and her baby is 10 months old. In fact, I am 3 months pregnant with my second, and she still weighs more than I do. She keeps thinking that the weight is going to go away on it''s own, but she is not exercising and continues to overeat, so I think it''s going to stick around unless she gets serious about taking it off. She wants to get pregnant again now with her second, but is worried about putting the new baby weight on top of the old. She really "ate for two" during her first pregnancy, and now those choices are really haunting her.

It is possible to not gain too much if you are overweight, but you have to be really careful with your diet. One of my friends was about 30 pounds overweight when she got pregnant, and managed to only gain 10 pounds during her pregnancy. She had a healthy baby girl, and had no trouble losing the weight after the birth - in fact, she''s in better shape than when she got pregnant.

For me, I was back down to my normal weight when we started trying for our second child. However, 7 months of fertility drugs (Provera and Clomid) put 15 pounds on me, so I''ve really been trying to gain only 20-25 pounds during this pregnancy. I''ve only gained 3 pounds so far, so I''m hoping that I can control it, because I know how hard it can be to take off afterwards

Question - how early did you feel your baby move? This question may be geared more to second time preggos, who already know what the "fluttering" feels like. I know that I was several months along with my first before I could really feel the baby moving, but with this one, I started feeling that "fluttering" feeling at 10 weeks! Is that normal? Is it easier to feel the baby earlier the second time around? Or are there any first time preggos who felt the baby move that early? Just curious!

Vesper, I started feeling little flutters at night when I would lay down at 11 weeks. I thought it was too early too, but I guess you really can feel it earlier with your second!

Steph, that''s so cool! Now I know that I''m not imagining things. I think that after the first, we just know what to look for. My baby was so active the other night, and I was cracking up imagining it dancing like that youtube video "all the single babies."

Mara, I have the Stokke Sleepi and love it. I did choose to have a Co-Sleeper to start with rather than the Stokke mini, but I will definitely go from the cot to the cotbed and then to the sofa thing.

I got mine on Ebay for $120. It was in excellent condition and I have managed to pick up all the mattress, sheets, bumper, quilts etc brand new at bargain prices. The Pottery Barn bumpers fit BTW, and you could probably find someone on Etsy to make up some sheets.

It comes with a 7 year warranty that is valid even if you are not the original owner.

I'm a total Stokke fan - the Xplory is my best purchase yet and worth every penny. I didn't get the changing table (which transforms into a desk) or the Tripp Trapp highchair (it was my second choice).

Anyway, just wanted to say that they are as good as they look - and hopefully as the cot doesn't look 'babyish', Daisy will be happy in it for a LONG time!

Mer: Loooove the u/s pics. The baby looks like it''s all "Why the heck am I upside down in here??"

MP: Regarding weight. I started out overweight, the doc said we just want to make sure it''s reasonable, the amount I gain. I have to be honest: I am NOT monitoring everything I eat. If I want something I eat it. I don''t force myself to eat veggies and fruit (although I am in love with citrus and frozen green grapes), but I don''t gorge on fried stuff. As an "overweight" person, people assume that because I was overweight I ate badly. Far from it! I''m a vegetarian who is very picky about her food intake. So far I have gained a total of 11 pounds. Well, two weeks ago. At 30 weeks pregnant, without constant monitoring and picking at what I''m eating, and NOT avoiding a milk shake if I feel like it, I only gained 11 pounds. A bunch of that is baby, too. I just want you to know that just because you''re considered "overweight", it doesn''t mean you''re going to gain a huge amount. And also, just because we''re considered overweight it doesn''t mean you have to count calories. Just to let you know it''s not all bad being overweight and pregnant.

Glad your DH is home more now. I understand what you mean about not liking to make DH miss things. I feel the same way, but sometimes I just want him to be around. And I agree with whomever that said maybe he just wants to do things before the baby gets here. Either way, it’s great that he is aware of your feelings and being accommodating.
Drk
Try searching youtube for videos on Foray. I watched many videos there on different strollers. They usually show you how to open and fold the stroller and demonstrate features. Pretty useful.

The u/s pics are adorable. I love the gummy bear fetus. So cute.

If your EDD based on LMP is within a week of the EDD based on u/s, most of the time they don’t change the due date. My u/s were constantly measuring 3-4 days ahead with Meena, and my dr never changed the EDD. But I did end up giving birth 4 days before the EDD, and I was shocked that the u/s was so accurate.

Like other said, I wouldn’t worry too much about the weight gain. Plus it’s very common to have weeks on big weight gain, and then slow up. Usually it evens out unless you are eating a lot more than before, which you aren’t doing. And some dr are more stringent on weight gain than others. My dr is pretty strict; he’ll tell me to watch it if I gain too much for the last month, even when the overall weight gain is normal. But his thing was that he doesn’t want it to become a trend and that the more I gain, the more I have to lose.
Steph
You still got it, sexy mama.

That doula’s recommendation is right on, but DH doesn’t have to be the only support. You can have your mom, MIL, etc. “After baby”, all I did was take care of Meena. MIL did all the cooking and DH did all the cleaning. It’s really nice to just concentrated on caring for your baby. And my childbirth class instructor said the priority should be baby, sleep, food and laundry. Everything else isn’t important, and it’s very true.

Wow that’s a lot for a crib and bedding. I agree the crib might be worth it, but definitely not the bedding.

LOL. That’s my thought when I first saw it posted on another forum, but some parents might want to use it. My opinion about hard floor is that we (DH and I, plus our siblings) grew up crawling, walking and falling on hard floor and we are fine, so our babies will be fine also. So I am pretty laidback on these things.

When is your anatomy u/s?

Glad the move was smooth. Did you move to Nor or So Cal? I forgot.

Hope you feel better soon. I have the flu in the 2 nd tri when I was pregnant with Meena. It was tough. I ended up taking Tylenol and Robitussin per dr’s suggestion.

Sorry about the bad dreams you’ve been having. It’s normal to worry about your baby. I am sure everything is fine.

You are right about that the “baby weight” can be hard to take off. I was lucky that my weight just shred from breastfeeding, but I only gained 30lbs total and already lost 20lbs by the end I got home from the hospital. But my two SILs still have about 10 – 15lbs of “baby weight” hanging around (one has a 5 yrs old son, and the other one has a 4 yrs old and a 1 yr old). Their weights stayed b/c they didn’t breastfeed, exercise or change their eating habits after the baby.

I felt flutters around 10 weeks. Nothing consistent, but definitely not gas. So you could definitely be feeling the baby.

About others’ comments on my belly growing
People at work had been saying to me that my belly is really growing now, and I usually respond with a “that’s the idea”. I seriously don’t remember them saying it last time I was pregnant, and I am not bigger than last time. I think it’s a weird comment.

Even though I am over the in 12 - 36 month thread, I just wanted to chime in and add a few things.

Mara - Yes, I totally agree with what your friend said. When you have a baby your job is to take care of your baby and yourself. Breastfeeding can take a toll on your body and you need to make sure that you are eating, drinking, and sleeping enough in order to get your supply to where it needs to be. Let everyone else take care of the meals, cleaning, etc.!

Also, I agree with the stay away from expensive bedding. Of course we ended up with a whole set (because I thought we needed it), but honestly, a few sheets is all you will use! Save your $ for other things in the nursery - like decorating with all of those cute prints from etsy!
