Good lord, that stone is stunning!

As far as not being symmetrical, that''s been covered. And as for the chips, I personally wouldn''t do anything if they don''t pose a risk. I inherited an OMC ring from my mom, though much smaller in size. It has 2 chips, and one rather large. But it has been looked at and determined they are no risk, so I''m leaving well enough alone.

I say go for it, it is truly gorgeous!

If you ever get the stats on it, can you post them?

Fascinating.

I love crown height.

Ditto, it is one unique and fabulous diamond!!! * swoons*

Wow, I really have to thank everyone for their responses and comments.

DiaGem - the face up looks quite bright to me, not sure about blue, looks like whatever objects are nearby it will reflect colors from them. However the last shot, it was taken in the shade and the sun was coming and going. No idea if the stone has fluorescence, unfortunately I don''t have a black light or a uv lamp. I need to put that on my list of toys to buy.

Skippy123 - Thanks for the compliment!

thing2of2 - If you look more carefully, I have ugly knuckle syndrome. I can''t agree more on how you said it is "Perfectly imperfect". Love that term
1.gif

Deelight - Thanks for the compliment. You know I wasn''t really sure how I would feel about the warmer color until I saw it. I''ve seen some really amazing warmer colored stones here on PS, and when browsing and shopping around in stores, I have also seen some that were not so appealing to me. Now I really feel like it''s part of this stone''s particular character and charm.

scarlet16 - Thank you for your compliments!

pixley - Setting is handmade in platinum (setting is not original), stone is 4.89 carats, M, VS2

surfgirl - Trying to see if I can find a qualified local appraiser, if not I definitely need to contact Dave Atlas. I think the stone is beautiful, but hey I''m no expert

sonomacounty - Like thing2of2 said - it''s perfectly imperfect! Thanks for your compliments. The vendor is Single Stone. I think they did a good job matching the setting for this stone. I don''t think it needs any other stone''s in the setting except itself and I have to admit I am in love with the crown height as well. Not sure about the fluorescence. I wish I had a uv light.....

Ellen - I''m glad I have had so much positive response on this ring. I feel pretty confident that it''s a keeper. I also think that once I get it appraised if all goes well, that I won''t touch the nick and chip. Afterall, it''s part of its provenance and thanks for your compliment!

Lorelei - Thank you for the compliment - I''m so happy to be able to have something so unique.

LOL, not bad for an antique cut newbie huh?

Very photogenic! I noticed that it doesn''t take a "bad" picture.

I love it!

Oh. my. gawd. I think I just DIED and gone to heaven!

Finds like this are rarer than rare, and I think you are one lucky, lucky, LUCKY woman! The stone looks gorgeous, the faceting is simply mesmerizing.

I have owned L and M colored antique stones in the past and while they do show a little warmth under certain lighting conditions, they still face up pretty white under most lighting conditions!

I am also of the opinion that old cut diamonds in general have that certain personality and character to them - this one certainly does!

Im officially jealous. Green with envy. Feeling sorry for myself now

Wear in good health always.

DiaGem - would you say this stone is an antique cushion shape or Old Mine? It was sold as a cushion, but I was wondering which one it really is?

As far as everything I''ve read, they are one and the same. But we''ll see what DiaGem says.

Thanks HeartingDiamonds! Oh wow - if you have any antique stones - you have to show some pics! I would love to see more antique cuts whether they are white or in the warmer colors.

You are right Ellen..., as far as old cut "cushion shape" Diamonds..., they are the same!
If the cut possess certain criterion''s..., GIA will do the favor and classify it on the report as an Old-Mine Brilliant! Which is in my opinion..., not a professional call!
11.gif

I also classify other genuine antique cut Diamond shapes as "Old-Mine Cuts". But thats me!

It greatly depends on the graders...
29.gif
, just like their plot/sketches they choose to apply to certain faceting arrangements!
BUT it depends on a combo of a certain table %, a certain crown angle, a certain pavilion depth and a certain culet size!

I think it''s BEAUTIFUL. Just a knock out. An amazing find!

Plus, the setting is stunning.

The setting is beautiful, and the stone is gorgeous! I really liked the pic on your DH''s finger, it really shows the character of the piece. Wow!!!

Did you say:

This is a handy little thing I got from Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ML3S10

It's actually a fun thing to have and not expensive. There are lots of uses for a blacklight too (Google search).

---

I made one of my non-diamond friends look at your photos. They were also blown away.

You know what entered my mind - what really, is that stone's history? I'd ask Singlestone. It's owners had to be pretty special, too, to have one like that.

Let us know if you do decide to ask.

Oh, look, kozibe effect too. How very cool.

Why can''t they make them like this anymore? Sigh.

Does it have any flouresence?

And look at the crown on it, in the side shot.

Great setting too.
What the heck is the "kozibe effect"?
33.gif

There is really nothing more that can be said....It''s stunning!! Enjoy!

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!

I can''t believe how gorgeous tht looks on you! That ring is amazing! I LOVE IT! The setting is great and that stone is beyond words... and it''s HUGE!!! Enjoy it and feel free to post a hundred pictures!!

susi - thanks for the compliment! I''d have to say if it has a bad picture - it would be due to my bad photography skills lol.....

DiaGem and Ellen - thanks for the clarification. It was kind of driving me nuts wondering if they were indeed one in the same or if there really is a difference.

coatimundi, thing2of2, Gypsy, and lyra - Thanks for your compliments. I really love the photo of it on my DH''s finger too. I''m so glad I snapped that quick shot.

sonomacounty - thanks for the link! I so have to get me one of those. Too bad the specific one you have isn''t sold directly by amazon right now or I would so be making use of prime shipping :)

isaku5 - Thanks for your compliment and I was wondering about kozibe at first too....lol I think I''m totally lucked out while being a newbie for antique cuts cause I just went with what really looked attractive to me.

CrookedRock - Thanks for your compliments! And I have to say congrats on your 4 carat! Can''t wait to see it. Is there a large cushion thread? If not, maybe we''ll have to start one.

Since I tried this ring on my finger, I feel totally megasized!

Plus, the setting is stunning.

The setting is beautiful :) I forgot to look at it properly the first few views of that baby I was mesmerized by the chunky goodness :)

I think I''m in love with that stone. It looks beautiful. The setting is perfect for it.

Kroshka~ I think we should start a thread of cushions in general... LegacyGirl has a beautiful one, as does Scarlet who is waiting for hers to be set by Leon too, Pixley gets hers tomorrow, MrsS has a TDF Daniel K halo!, Iheartdiamonds has one that is stunning, BostonJeff''s ring for his fiance is an incredible Leon, and there are many more I am forgetting... Cushions seem to be all the rage right now and it would be great to have them all in one place. Pixley, the Cushion Lady

, could probably help us with that bc she seems to know all about everyones cushions.
