Calling Mr Barrett (aka my husband)

Although I have never seen one in person, the photographs of the stuff that has come out of California looks pretty good too. Shaver Lake I believe is the name of the deposit. The few pieces I have seen seem to be a slightly paler purple color but a very strong blue component and a hint of grey. It may sound like an oddball mix of colors, but it makes for a very interesting color combination. I'll see if I can find links.

I would wager to bet the reason "Siberian" amethyst was touted as the best was due to the fact it was mined back in the late 19th, early 20th century. Not many locations to compare it to back then. Sure the Brazilian deposits had been discovered but Zambian, 4 peaks, JXR, Uruguay, and a host of other fine amethyst deposits had yet to be discovered. The finest around was Siberian so the name and title stuck with it and over the years was passed down in literature and in word to become the legend it is today. Compared to the amethyst deposits discovered in the last 50-60 years, I am sure it wouldn't be held in such high regard......
