Hi PS-ers

Who here has dealt with Good Old Gold while living outside of America?

They are finding me a stone (so far they have been wonderful), but i want to know what the international reviews are!

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks! :D

I'm from Canada and worked with them on my engagement ring. They were great and shipping was no problem. Wire transfering money bank to bank takes a bit of time to complete, but this is true for any international vendor you work with.

Thanks HopeDream

Did you ever return anything? Or was it just a case of finding something and them shipping it to you?

ANd did you find that they were super helpful on assisting you with selection of stones etc?

Cheers

Hi Kaydizzle,

I didn't return anything, just had my ring shipped out. I picked out my stone, but they were really helpful in shooting a comparison video with another stone I was interested in. GOG are fairly picky when it comes to choosing nice stones for their inventory and Jon has a very good eye for light performance.

When I bought my ring I was also looking for a very specific type of simple setting and they were able to find a couple of different options within my budget without tyring to up-sell me (which I appreciated). Their communitcation with me was prompt, and even though my order ended up involving several different people at the store, they kept all the details straight and communicated with me effectively.

Thanks so much for that. Makes me think they aren't bad. :)

I'm from Australia!

I was looking for an oval stone, and needed something within a two month timeframe. Sarah called in three stones for me. Jon shot a video and there was a clear winner in terms of light performance.

When the stones were called in, I still had 6 weeks before my deadline was up. I felt as though she was encouraging me to go with the stone I ended up with. I'm sure that was based on her professional opinion - that she was unlikely to find anything better in the timeframe.

Inventory levels for what I was after were really low (I'm talking 5 stones in total, one was sold before it was able to be brought in for viewing), and so ended up getting something marginally smaller than what I was after but in a higher colour. I wish I had the luxury of time to wait for something perfect, but would have probably meant I would have ended up spending more. Luckily I had a deadline, otherwise I could have been waiting forever! That said, I know I have a beautiful rarely well cut stone.

Sarah answered all my questions thoroughly and quickly.

I'm having the stone set in NY, and had it appraised by Neil Beaty so fortunately no sales tax was payable. Neil said in his appraisal that the price was slightly below market value, but I'm not sure if that's to be read with a grain of salt.

Thanks Fige! That's a helpful summary of the process.

Who is this neal beattie fellow? Is he with the company or external? Any saving on sales tax is good as far as I'm concerned!~ :Up_to_something:

Thanks!

Woah typo - Neil Beaty. haha

I am in Canada and bought a diamond, which I later returned. The whole transaction was very smooth and easy, and they helped with the return shipping by sending me a FedEx label and letting me use their insurance for the shipment.

I am out in the Westcoast and have been dealing with GOG as well. How much was shipping? Were you charged taxes and duties when it arrived?

Thanks Fige and Dreamer_D

If i do end up buying and/or returning the stone I'll keep that in mind. :)

I'm in Toronto and just received my very own GOG AVC! They were fantastic to work with and I'm super thrilled with my engagement ring. If you're located near the US border it would be wiser to have your ring shipped to a fedex world location where it can be held securely for 5 days. We had mine shipped to Pennsylvania and saved on the additional duties that would have been applied had it been shipped to Canada.
Note: Not all states are tax free so confirm before you ship!
