I finally ordered the Casablanca I've been debating for so long, and am now thinking about jewelry. I was thinking an antique cameo would be great and unique to wear with such dress. However, I'm a little tight on money, don't have the dress with me, and don't have any experience shopping for cameos. I've been mostly checking out Rubylane.com and Ebay for these and have found tons. I know that new cameos will be posted every day until the wedding, but I'm anxious to find one.

I'm looking for one that is a light beige color, instead of orange, preferably gold-colored setting (even bronze!), and not a fake antique. I don't want a really choppy carving, but don't need a masterpiece, either. I think the hardest thing I'm coming across is matching the color of my champagne highlights on the dress. Also, I'd like one smaller than 2" long, so it doesn't swamp my chest.

I'd like to keep it under $200. Hopefully I can find a good balance in price and quality.

Here's my big three contender's now: they're in flash format, so I can't post them here:

1. http://www.rubylane.com/shops/jewells/item/J-1429 $85-- this has a great price and carving, and I love the setting. Just wondering if the cameo color is too dark for my dress? 1 1/4" long.

2. http://www.rubylane.com/shops/brysantiques/item/RL000379 $175-- a little pricier-- looks like the color would match well, but the picture is just too blurry. Overall the carving looks sharp. 1 1/4" long. Worth the extra money when I can't exactly see the details?

3. http://www.rubylane.com/shops/greatfinds/item/2808 $225- $25 over my price limit- very sharp, crisp carving, unique color. Pretty, if a little plain setting. A little larger 1 3/4" long. Would this match? Worth the extra money?

Here's my dress for comparison. I know that there will be more cameos posted every day. I just don't know whether I should jump on one of these or wait it out. I enjoy hearing from you all about this, getting a second opinion on the color matching, and also I think this helps by writing this post to flesh this out in my mind. You know how indecisive I can be!!

Thank you for reading my posts, helping me with my decisions, and letting me flesh this out here!

If this helps any, I was thinking something like this for earrings. Green amethyst or a light smoky topaz?

Thanks Gypsy! Yeah, I''m just brainstorming on earrings, but I definitely won''t buy any until I have a cameo in my possession that i can see.

I did see the one you posted and it is beautiful. Just wondering if it is too orange-colored?

It''s tricky-- going with something nontraditional is tough to match!

The first one is my favorite, too. I like her face the most.

Here are some others I have found. I love cameos! I tend to go for the blue agate cameos, though, so looking for a light shell cameo is new to me. If you don''t see anything you really like, I would wait. You can always pick something later that will work. BTW, I just can''t tell you enough times how much I love your dress!

Here's the photo of their suggestion for everyone's convenience:

FF and Gypsy (and EBree!)-- I think that suggestion is beautiful. Definitely a contender, but I am concerned that the background of that cameo is just too orange. Am I just nuts? Have I looked at too many now? I am seeing cameos in my sleep! Haha!! Do you think pairing it up with this particular dress is a good choice?

I also asked the seller if they have clearer pics of #2 they could get to me. Waiting on that one! :)

Here''s the photo-- hehe!

I swear I just posted something...Grr.

I like your #3 the best (the $225 one). If you really like it best, I don''t think the extra $25 is that big of a deal.

First of all, I LOVE your gown! It is absolutely gorgeous and I can''t wait to see you in it!

As for the cameos, I like the first and fourth pix that facetfire posted. HTH!

misy,

I don't think ORANGE when I look at the pendant. The background, to me, is more of a soft peachy color. Plus, it's only like 1 5/8' high, so the peach background (

) won't be that noticeable at all, IMO.

But it's important for you to love this pendant, and that means it should be mind-clean too!

Yes, Yes -- if your beading is a cafe color or somewhat close -- a light smokey quartz would be lovely. But don''t mix smokey quartz with cameo. If cameo earrings would be too much of a matchy matchy look for you, then an unobtrusive pair of small pearls, diamonds, CZs or crystals would be a better choice with a cameo. I also think that those earrings might be enough to stand alone without the necklace, especially if you are planning an updo.

Oh EBree, that''s a great point! I think you''re right. After looking at all of these photos on this big computer monitor, I keep forgetting that these are small. Okay, I''m going to keep this in mind as I read everyone''s opinions!

This one is my favorite too http://www.affordablevintagejewelry.com/la19gofishca.html (the one from ff and gypsy)

Wow! I''ve been toying with the idea of making a 3strand pearl choker type necklace with a cameo on it... It''s good to see all the options that are out there!

Thanks so much for all of your help and wonderful suggestions! It really helps to get help from you PSers-- I showed FI photos of the cameos and he just told me they all looked exactly the same.

I think I''ve narrowed it down between my #1 and this one: http://pages.rememberwhenvintage.com/178/PictPage/1922465968.html

The link above is $130, so it''s a little more expensive. The frame looks like a much shinier finish, and it''s a classical carving as opposed to contemporary. Hmm!?? (man, I really need to work on this decision-making thing!) Any ideas?

I like the frame of this one better with your gown.
