Can a round diamond setting make it look more like a cushion

I like the look of a cushion, but I'll have to get a larger one for it to match the size I want. Could a round diamonds prongs be made to give it a more cushion look?

I think sometimes having 4 prongs on an RB instead of 6 makes them look a bit less "round." Four double prongs would probably take it a step further even. Here's an example:

It will still look like an RB, but the four prongs may give the illusion of it being a bit more square/rectangular.

cushions should be cheaper than rounds for the same carat weight so you should be able to get a larger cushion?

that being said, fishtail prongs can make a round look more cushion-y, if that is the look you prefer...

Yep, totally agree with this post.

Also- you could try a cushion halo with yrou RB- but for the price of a well made halo you could probably get a cushion closer to your target size.

Mine is a round in a cushion halo and prongs in the corners... I think it looks like a cushion...

Hmm, I am just thinking- what do you like about cushions? the facet patterning or the overall shape? Seems like if you truly like cushions you should look into the online vendors selections- as cusions tend to be cheaper than ideal cut RB you can get a bigger carat weight in a cushion for the same pricing and get the overal size you are looking for. My concern is that you are trying to make RB into the cushion stone you want- will you really be happy in the long run?

As an illustration:

$4,560 1.01 carat 6.35x5.44 F VS2 cushion
$4,680 .81 carat 5.99x6.01 F VS2 round brilliant

It's hard to calculate the face-up size of a cushion since it's not perfectly round or square, but these have competitive finger coverage: 28.3 sq mm for the round and 34.5 for the cushion if it were a perfect rectangle.

What about a hearts and arrows cushion?

But I do love a rb in a cushion halo

Example of mine... double prongs in the corners

If budget is an issue- H&A cushions are more expensive than generic cushion cuts.

Mayk: Your ring is so beautiful! You stated it is a sareen cushion halo setting. What is the total carat weight for the setting itself? Do you know what the style # or name was?
