I have a 6mm platinum wedding band that is a smooth comfort style ring. My wife wants me to keep it polished. The jeweler I purchased the ring from no longer polishes rings locally; they send them out. What can I use at home to keep this ring polished? Is there a cloth, chemical, dremel tool attachment, etc., that I can use? Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

I'm no expert, but I have found that a nail buffer works well. I use a 4-sided one with very, very fine grit (the type used to smooth the ridges on the top of the nail) and gently buff out the light scratches/scuffs on my rings. I then follow up with the polishing side (used to shine the nail) to polish the metal to a nice shine. I find that this is a lot cheaper than taking a ring to a jeweler to get repolished (I forgot how much it is, but I think it's like $25 for gold and $50 for platinum? Maybe even more...) I'm not sure if it ends up taking some of the metal off over time, but this method works well for me.

Hi Steve,
If you have a soft rubber wheel for your dremel tool it will brighten it up nicely.
Move it around, don't concentrate on trying to remove scatches which can make it wavy.
Good luck!

I wouldn't use something with grit because that likely removes metal.
