Hi folks!
New here and I am enjoying everyone's posts so far as I research engagement rings! I came across this site while searching for the perfect engagement ring for my girlfriend. I was a little sneaky and found exactly what she has wanted. The ring is actually posted here;

Unfortunately, though I am having a hard time finding a setting that is similar to this ring, other than the one on the thread. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you so much in advance for your help and comments!!!

Whats the budget for the stone and setting?

As of right now my budget is loosely $2,000.00. Thanks for your help!

the only think that conserns me about those stores is that you cant see pics of the stone. this is important for all diamonds but particularly for fancies with bowties.
see how different these can look, and they are all within your budget

if you contact idj tell them you want pricescope quality stone :)

Thank you all for your help! I really appreciate it. If you think of anything else please let me know. You guys rock!
I'll check out your suggestions and I'll keep you updated as to what I decide to do or any other questions I come up with. THANKS!

OK, I spoke with a guy from ID Jewelry. First off, very nice and helpful. I was amazed at how accommodating and sincere this guy was. He said that the setting alone would cost (at most) around $1000.00... so that only give me around $1000.00 to play with for the actual stone. I'm debating right now as to whether or not that is wise... He suggested that I find way to look at as many Marquise cut diamonds as possible to see what I could basically get for that amount. Unfortunately, I am having trouble finding jewelers that actually have marquise diamonds in stock... What do you guys think? Would I be able to get a suitable diamond for that amount? Thanks again!

Hmm. Well. A lot of times when someone wants a setting thats half the ring budget ( doesnt just happen to you lol ) sometimes we suggest just getting a temp setting and then replacing it a few years down the line. Because replacing the setting is a lot chaper than upgrading later. Youre in luck because marquise are cheaper per ctw as well as face up very large. So if you wanted to buy one from a vendor you could get a nice size for your budget id you put it all toward the stone.

A 200or so simple setting for the time being isnt a terrible idea. And you can upgrade it later or she can choose to put some money toward her own setting ( not quite as romantiv bit youre gettig married and all. Itll be shared money eventually lol)

Now marquise are lovely but much less popular and your best bet to see them as well as a chance to get a great deal would be to try some nicer pawn shops or antique stores in the area

1k for that setting since about right for me. As N already stated marquises are cheaper then other cuts. Can IDJ find a diamond for you in your price range? If 2k is your budget I would just get a larger, wel cut diamond and then spend money on the setting later on down the road.

Thanks for the comment. I am starting to think the same thing... Unless I can find a way to up my budget, so, right now I am crunching the numbers and working on that. I've also been interested in checking out antique rings, that's her style as well. She's a big fan of vintage. Any suggestions? Thanks again guys! I'll keep you updated! :)

Well in theory a vintage marquise shuld provide you a lot of bang for your buck. But its just a matter of finding it. Id start maybe a new thread maybe with that in the title. See if some if the people good at finding these things can help

I don´t know anything about marquise diamonds, but for antique rings, I would recommend you to check out ebay stores.
Typing art deco ring, you get a lot of entries, starting at very reasonable prices. And they are so so romantic!!

If a big stone is not a concern, it could be nice to get her something beautiful that will stand the time, and then get her a larger diamond for an important anniversary, so that she could use one as a right hand ring and one as a left hand ring.

I always think that trading in my engagement ring for upgrading it would be a bit painful for me..
