LD linked to GemSelect recently as did Crasru, but I can't view their site! I just get a message that they will be revealing their new site early 2012. Help would be very much appreciated!

just used gemselect & is working fine-can u enter all other webs as usual? only trouble getting into the one site?-might be just a matter of coldstarting ur pc-my 2cnts-steve-from across the pond...

Try hitting F5 on their website to refresh the page or clear your cache and cookies? Cause gemselect works for me.

Nope, I cannot get in. I tried Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer, scrambled my IP address, entered it directly, searched through Google, restarted my computer, refreshed the page. Nope. Same message.

Every other site works for me.

Oddly, the "thumbnail" view when I hover over the links through Google show the website to be working. Its only when I click that it says the website will be launched in 2012.

:knockout:

Did you try going from the link in the Sites Selling Colored Gemstones and Jewelry thread? I just did and it worked for me.

Welcome to GemSelect

Our site is currently under construction but will be online in early 2012

Thank you for visiting!

VL--I just tried it. Same message!

that's weird..I can get on. I noticed a while back they redid their site, so I don't know why it says 2012, and why you can't get on. I used the same link I always do, and I went to a new window and typed in www.gemselect.com and it came up too.

That's totally weird. Im sure youve cleared your history in firfox and deleted cookies and closed the browser and reopened, but if not try that. Also are you using the latest version? I have a possibly similar experience with a different site and circumstance. I still have my first generation imac desktop that looks like a tablelamp thing. runs OS9.2 When I go to antique-rings.co.uk I Get the same old freeky site that it always was. If I go to that same web address on my mew macbook pro with snowleopard I get rerouted to suebrownantiquerings

So I just tried gemselect on my imac-o-saur and it works fine. Of course you're spelling it right and have caps off and no stuck option keys. WHen you get that message page try chosing from top controls "view" and "page source", then we might be able to compare.

I've checked Firefox for updates, and there aren't any. My laptop is brand new. I just deleted cookies, etc.

Odd thing is, that I just tried it on a desktop, which uses an entirely different network: it still doesn't work.

Let me try again and look for "page source". Thank you so much VL!

This is what it says when I hit page source:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title>GemSelect - Great gems, great prices, great service!</title>
<META NAME="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="GemSelect is the gemstone source for sapphire, tourmaline, spinel, garnet, spessartite, amethyst, citrine, and peridot">
<META NAME="KEYWORDS" CONTENT="gemstone,tourmaline,sapphire,spinel,garnet,spessartite,amethyst,quartz,citrine,peridot,thailand">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<style type="text/css">
<!--
.style1 {font-size: 18px}

etc. Let me try deleting my cookies one more time.

If I follow your link I get the same error page.
If I type in gemselect.com then I get the site as usual.
What happens if you go http://www.gemselect.com/amethyst/amethyst.php for example?
Do you still get redirected?

ETA: This is most likely not a problem on your computer but rather something funky either with their settings, or something intermediate such as: they put up this page temporarily a while back, it got cached by your ISP, and that's what is shown to you now.
Another thing you can try is to go directly to their IP address: http://174.133.199.250/ should get you to the site.
If you keep having this problem I would use their "contact" link to let them know. Their webmaster probably needs to fix something.

Yup, still redirected. :knockout:

Well I dont know what it all means or what the solution is but you are getting routed to a different page source than me. Here is a pic of both your source and mine. I dont know how it is that I was expecting this to help.

I clicked on the link you posted of where you get routed to and it took me there too. What's with the three elephants apparently, um, relieving themselves??? Them I deleted the end of the address in the window, everything after".com/" and hit return and it took me to the right page. Worth a try.

What's most odd is that I can see the cached version of the page, which is fully updated. When I Google it, I can both "Preview" the full page and also view the cached page, but I can't actually click anything within the cached page or I'll be redirected to the error.

When I do "tools" and then "error console" then I get a repeated message of "declaration dropped" but I have no idea what that means.

I don't think the problem is you..it's between you and their web site. As mentioned, ISPs often cache (pre-load or store) a copy of a site so that it will load faster for their users, and that cache hasn't been flushed out recently. I would call tech support at the ISP or email them if a contact is provided. Explain what actions you have taken.

If you want to experiment, take your laptop to another location which uses a different ISP clear the cookies and cache and see what loads up. (Bookstore, McDonalds...free wifi hotspot?)

Hello. I realize that this thread is a bit old, but people do still read it and we receive questions on this issue frequently. Therefore, we thought we should put out an explanation for all. Our website access is blocked to several countries. The reasons for denying access range from the unreliable/untraceable postal services where we have lost too many parcels and/or extremely high import customs duty, tax and brokerage fees. Some countries also strictly prohibit the import of loose gemstones/jewelry by post. We apologize for any inconvenience, Any additional questions regarding this can be sent to us by email.
